Better than expected!
I knew this would be a good product based on reviews, but I was even more impressed by how simple it was to put together. Took me a little over an hour and it was also very sturdy and matched the description perfectly! Would 100% recommend this, it is helping me save a lot of space as well by not having so many books laying around.

Six years and going strong
In a world of very low quality furniture items, this bookshelf has lasted me through over six years. Iâve moved, probably 5 times since having this thing. The back paneling is coming off a bit from getting bumped around in storage but the whole thing is very sturdy for being particleboard. And the panel is an easy fix. Thereâs a very slight amount of bowing on the top two shelves but nothing very noticeable.I actually just returned to this to see if I could purchase a few more but in a lighter color to fill my office space/library room. I was unfortunately let down. Would be fabulous in a more natural stain or a solid white!

Very nice looking shelving unit for my home office
I love the dark wood look in my home office, as certainly steps it up a notch, and keeps items in their place.Pretty easy to put together, but could have had a bit better instructions, with more detailed pictures.Great item for the price, as I had been looking for a while.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bookcase. After I purchased this bookcase, it came faster then the scheduled delivery times! It was packaged with hard cardboard corners on every corners (long, short, horizontil, vertical). So when the FedEx guy dragged the box to my backdoor and left it in the rain, there was zero, yes, ZERO damage to the box or the contents in the box (damage during delivery was my biggest worry). I was pleasantly shocked by how well this was packaged (probably had too many complaints)!Every piece was labled. There are 2 pieces that don’t have the label sticker, but look at the unfinished edge and it will be marked with some type of ink.Directions are step-by-step and detailed. No missing pieces (in fact, had some to spare). You will need a phillips screwdriver (a drill may be too much) to assemble this bookcase. If you put the backing on (the typical flimsy backing that comes on everything), you will need a hammer. If you are really detail oriented, then you will need a tape measure to nail the back on, putting each nail every such-and-such inches. You need lots of room, at least the full height of the bookcase. It can be put together by one person, but I would suggest a second person to do “hold this side” type of work. And I would suggest two people to ilft from floor to standing position. It took my other half 4 hours to put it together by himself with me “holding”. He also took his time and made sure everything was perfect because he knew how important this bookcase is to me. So block off time. The quality of the wood is better then I ever expected. This is a solid piece of furniture (not some cheap bookcase from Kmart). The color is gorgeous. A mixture of black and dark brown – I don’t have words to describe it. I love it so much, I am re-doing my bedroom in this color and this collection from Sauder. There are multiple holes for adjusting the shelves to which ever position you want.I have over a hundred books on this case so far, with 1 shelf to spare and 2 shelves are filled 3/4 (for added space when adding new books in abc order). If you read small paperbacks, you can have two rows on each shelf. I have mostly the larger paperbacks so I put nick-nacks in front of the books. I wish I could add a picture to this review. You will not be upset with this choice! I think about this case and my heart goes pitty-pat because I love it so much (I’m into books if you haven’t already guessed. They are like showpieces and displayed well on this case.)I’m going to purchase two more bookcases (after I get the other half to approve; I figure if he has to put it together, then he can have a say…but we all know I will end up with two more bookcases. HAHA)

Poor quality; requires very careful assembly
Shelf looks good. I managed to assemble it properly without breaking it, but wouldn’t buy from Sauder again. Here are my observations:1. It arrived very well packed with thermocol/polystyrene, edge protectors, and plastic wrap. However, on opening noticed the veneer on one of the boards was still coming out from a corner. This just reflects on poor quality of the board. This shelf had no free returns and damage wasn’t too much so I decided to proceed with assembly.2. The shelf boards are heavy compared to boards from other big-box store brand for similar product. The store was out of stock, I should have waited rather than buying from Sauder.3. Many of the board edges are rough. Wear gloves, or you will have splinters poking into your palm.4. The CAMs are poor quality, or the assembly design is defective. Make sure the CAMs are fully turned as per the instruction manual, otherwise you will have a wobbly shelf. Tips: 1. use a screw driver that is just as wide as the groove on CAM, otherwise CAM may not turn fully, 2. Recheck the cam joints when flipping the shelf to ensure these joints didn’t become loose.5. On step 5 of assembly be really careful putting in the screws. Need to ensure the screw is going in straight, the shelf board is not strong and predrilled hole may not be straight. The veneer on the board cracked when I put the first screw.6. Some of the later assembly steps are bit fiddly, you are expected to manually align pieces. You would also need to do this while putting in a screw bottom to up direction.7. Don’t forget to wall mount and drill the wall mount into a stud. This is one piece of furniture I would not leave unattended while it is not wall mounted. The wall mount clip is kind of small and is supposed to be screwed on to the top board which is a particle board. Since all these boards felt cheap, the product doesn’t feel very safe. Will recommend putting it in a corner or use additional wall mount clips to ensure it never gets a chance to wobble (e.g., sideways).

Really nice quality, especially for the price
I grew up with Sauder products and now at 42, Iâm really pleased that the quality has gotten only better. Assembly was easy. We were pleased at how the trim slides on- looks really nice. Very sturdy and looks classy.

Received with interior impact damage to 2 side pieces when unpacked. Contacted manufacturer and ‘chatted’ through their website. Immediate satisfaction for replacement parts; shipped promptly and discounted through Amazon for my inconvenience. Final finished product worth the short delays. Appreciate the discount!

At the time of writing this review, I had bought these YEARS ago, but I distinctly remember them arriving and having to drag them up 3 floors of an apartment building all by myself and thinking I would never have to do any weight lifting after that. They are SUPER sturdy and can hold most books 2 books deep. The shelves are movable (except for the second from the bottom) to accommodate for taller books, but even sitting at equal heights, there is plenty of space.Ultimately, these are beautiful shelves and were exactly what I was looking for at the time, but they were (and still are) much too expensive for what they are. Especially since you can buy almost exactly the same thing for a fraction of the price (and the materials will be almost exactly the same). Fortunately, they have held up over the years and even survived a move to a new province unscathed, and will continue to hold my ever growing book collection for years to come.
