Product Overview
The Maxxima Ceiling Mount 360 Degree PIR Occupancy Sensor is a hard-wired motion detection device engineered for both commercial and residential lighting systems. Built on passive infrared (PIR) technology, it intelligently detects movement within its coverage area and automatically controls connected lights—turning them on when someone enters and off when the space is unoccupied. This not only enhances convenience but also significantly reduces unnecessary energy consumption by ensuring lights are only active when needed.
This compact white sensor installs seamlessly into standard ceilings, offering a discreet appearance that blends naturally into most interiors. With a maximum mounting height of 15 feet, it provides broad spatial reach ideal for large or open-plan areas. Its design supports compatibility with a wide variety of lighting types—including LED, incandescent, CFL, MLV, and ELV—making it a versatile solution for modern and legacy electrical setups alike.
Designed with user customization in mind, this sensor allows you to fine-tune its behavior to match specific room dynamics. Whether used in an office hallway, restroom, storage closet, stairwell, or retail space, the Maxxima sensor adapts to human traffic patterns while minimizing false triggers from environmental factors like airflow or small animals.

Key Features
- 360° Ceiling Mount Design: Delivers full circular coverage up to 1256 square feet when installed at the recommended height of 15 feet. This eliminates blind spots and ensures consistent detection across entire rooms—ideal for open layouts or irregularly shaped spaces.
- Adjustable Time Delay: Choose from a time delay range of 15 seconds to 30 minutes, allowing precise control over how long lights remain on after motion ceases. This flexibility helps balance energy savings with user comfort, especially in areas with variable occupancy or longer dwell times.
- Adjustable Sensitivity: Fine-tune the motion detection threshold to ignore minor movements such as swaying curtains, shifting furniture, or pet activity. This prevents nuisance switching and improves reliability in dynamic environments.
- Light Level Sensing: Includes an adjustable light threshold feature that enables daylight harvesting. The sensor only activates lights when ambient illumination falls below your preset level, maximizing energy efficiency in sunlit rooms or during daytime operations.
- Wide Voltage Compatibility: Operates efficiently across a broad voltage range—120–277V AC at 60Hz—making it suitable for both residential (120V) and commercial (277V) electrical systems without requiring additional transformers or converters.
- UL Listed Certification: Meets rigorous safety and performance standards set by Underwriters Laboratories, ensuring reliable operation and code compliance in diverse building applications.
- Versatile Load Support: Capable of supporting loads up to 800W at 120V and 1,200W at 277V, including motors up to 1/6 HP. This makes it compatible with high-output fixtures and low-voltage lighting systems, including dimmable options.

Benefits & Use Cases
Ideal for spaces where automatic lighting control enhances both efficiency and user experience, this occupancy sensor excels in environments with intermittent human presence—such as offices, conference rooms, restrooms, stairwells, utility closets, and retail backrooms. By eliminating manual switching, it reduces wear on switches and promotes consistent energy management.
Its ability to adjust sensitivity and light thresholds makes it particularly effective in challenging conditions. For instance, in naturally well-lit corridors or frequently accessed storage areas, the light-sensing function ensures lights remain off unless necessary. Similarly, in spaces with frequent foot traffic, extended time delays can accommodate longer usage patterns without sacrificing energy savings.
The sensor’s compatibility with low-voltage lighting systems like MLV and ELV positions it as a future-ready choice for modern sustainable designs. It also supports no minimum load, meaning even small LED strips or single-bulb circuits can benefit from automated control—offering flexibility across fixture types and installation scales.
Because proper wiring is essential, installers should confirm the presence of a neutral wire before proceeding. The included hardware—wire nuts and mounting screws—simplifies setup, while the compact white finish minimizes visual intrusion once installed.

Important Notes
- A neutral wire is required for safe and functional operation. Always verify circuit wiring prior to installation.
- The package includes wire nuts and mounting screws for quick and secure installation.
- Supports no minimum load, making it suitable for dimmable or low-power fixtures.
- Backed by a 1-year manufacturer warranty, providing assurance of quality and reliability.
- Not recommended for ceiling configurations exceeding 15 feet in height or non-standard electrical environments lacking a neutral conductor.
- Installation must comply with local electrical codes and safety regulations.

Well-Performing Occupancy Sensor
During the ADA restroom upgrade at our church, I decided to add this occupancy sensor. We found it works quite well (turns the lights and vent fan ON just as you enter the doorway). The restroom is 12′ x 8′ with a low (7.5 foot) ceiling; the sensor is located near the center of the ceiling. Even with the low ceiling, the sensor still has plenty of range to monitor the doorway and the entire restroom. It has three adjustments (TIME, SENSE, LIGHT). The time and sensitivity adjustments work well. Our restroom does not have any natural light, so we cannot comment on the ‘light’ adjustment. However, for applications with plenty of light from windows, this knob would be useful to set the dusk/dawn light level at which the room lights function (rather than turning lights on when not needed). Wiring was simple. Instructions are adequate and written well enough for the DIYer to get the job done. The product performs quite well at this price point…One minor improvement: I would suggest increasing the hole spacing in the mounting ring… It is presently a bit shy of the 3.5″ spacing between the 8-32 screws in a typical octagon electrical box. I had to tweak the holes in the plastic to ease mounting. BTW, the provided flathead screws are needed to attach the mounting ring to an electrical box, or mounting surface. Otherwise, (with round head screws) the sensor will not have enough clearance to twist-lock into the mounting ring.

Inconsistent, unreliable, doesnt work. Waste of time and money.
This product does not work. I went to return it and missed the return window by 4 days. It is not reliable. It will not consistently detect motion. You can open the door to the garage and it may turn on or it may not. It will randomly turn on and you can be in the room and it will shut the lights off like your not there even if you wave and dance around it still will not turn back on. This product truely does not work. Dont waste tour money on it.

Great Product – Issue with staying on resolved
Product works great – I have purchased three of them and installed two so far. I thought I had an issue with the one in this photo installed in the garage as it was coming on at night and staying on all night. After some testing, it turns out when the camera’s infrared lights came on at sundown, it triggered the motion sensor and kept the lights on. Sensitivity was set to 3. I set the sensitivity to 1 and will see if the lights still come on this evening. If it does, I will just turn off the infrared light on the camera – as any motion will turn a light on and allow the camera to see. I will continue buying this product any place I want lights to come on when entering a room.

Wasnât what I expected/my fault
Totally my fault⦠I didnât look at the actual measurements for this. Way too small for what I was needing. However it is well packaged and I am sure would work well as we have bought other products from this maker and like them.

Looks good but lacks performance
Never worked well. I spent almost 6 hours trying to adjust this sensor and finally decided that it was a piece of junk. This sensor only works when all adjustments are set to minimum. At that time it stays on for 18-25 seconds after the intrusion zone is vacant. Any adjustment to the timer makes the sensor unstable and it stays on in excess of 5 minutes with minimum adjustment after the zone is vacant. The same can be said for the sensitivity adjustment which causes the sensor to cycle on and off without zone intrusion . I won’t buy this product again. I gave it 1 star because it may only be used as a trigger device.
