Key Features

  • Non-Slip TPE Backing: Engineered with a thermoplastic elastomer layer that significantly improves traction on smooth or hard stair surfaces, helping prevent slips during daily movement. This feature is especially valuable in homes with children, elderly residents, or pets who frequently use the stairs.
  • Durable Jute Surface: The top layer consists of natural jute fibers known for their strength and resilience. This material resists fraying and maintains its appearance even after repeated foot traffic, offering long-term value and visual appeal.
  • Neutral Beige Aesthetic: The soft beige color provides a warm, inviting look that blends seamlessly with various wood finishes and décor schemes, avoiding bold patterns or colors that might clash with your existing interior design.
  • Universal Step Compatibility: Measuring 9 inches in width and 30 inches in length, each tread fits comfortably on most standard residential wooden steps, accommodating slight variations in step depth without requiring trimming or modification.
  • Simple Installation & Removal: Lightweight and flexible, these treads can be easily placed, repositioned, or removed as needed. No adhesives, tools, or complex setups are required, making them ideal for renters or those who prefer temporary solutions.
  • Generous Pack Quantity: Includes 15 individual runners, allowing for complete coverage of single or multi-flight staircases. This bulk quantity also offers flexibility for future replacements or targeted placement on high-traffic steps.

Benefits & Use Cases

These stair treads deliver a practical balance of functionality and elegance, addressing common concerns around home safety and floor preservation. The jute surface softens impact and reduces walking noise, creating a more peaceful environment—particularly beneficial in multi-level homes or shared living spaces. Families with young children learning to navigate stairs will find peace of mind knowing each step offers added stability thanks to the grippy TPE base. Pet owners appreciate how the non-slip surface helps animals gain confidence when climbing or descending, minimizing slip-related accidents.

Beyond safety, these treads actively protect your hardwood or engineered wood stairs from unsightly scuffs, chips, and edge damage caused by constant foot traffic. Over time, this protective barrier extends the life of your flooring investment by shielding vulnerable areas from daily abrasion. The neutral beige hue ensures the treads remain unobtrusive yet stylish, avoiding the cluttered look often associated with traditional stair rugs.

Installation is straightforward: simply place each runner flat onto the top surface of the step. For best adhesion, ensure the stair is clean and dry before application. These treads work well on both finished and unfinished wood, though performance may vary slightly depending on surface texture. While they are not designed for outdoor or wet environments, their indoor-focused design makes them perfect for basements, main floors, landings, and secondary staircases throughout the home.

Because these are runner-style treads rather than full-coverage mats, they sit directly on top of each step without extending down the sides. This design allows for easy sweeping underneath and accommodates varying step depths without gaps or overlaps. The flexibility of the TPE backing enables slight adjustments if needed, though users should avoid placing them over very uneven or highly polished surfaces where slippage could still occur despite the grip-enhancing technology.

For households with larger dogs or frequent furniture moving, consider pairing these treads with additional non-slip pads or securing strips for maximum stability. Always test one unit first to confirm optimal fit and performance based on your specific staircase layout and foot traffic patterns.

Important Notes

Please note that these stair treads are intended strictly for indoor use and should not be exposed to excessive moisture, water spills, or outdoor conditions such as rain, snow, or direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to damp environments may compromise the integrity of either the jute layer or the TPE backing. While the non-slip properties perform well under normal household conditions, results may vary on extremely smooth, glossy, or uneven stair surfaces—adjust placement or consider alternative solutions if slippage persists.

Before installing, thoroughly clean all stair tops to remove dust, oils, or debris that could reduce adhesion. Avoid using harsh chemicals that might degrade the TPE backing over time. If repositioning becomes necessary, lift gently to prevent tearing the delicate jute surface. These treads do not come with adhesive; they rely on friction and weight for secure placement, so ensure each step supports sufficient load without curling at the edges.

While durable, the jute material is not fully stain-proof and may show signs of use over extended periods with heavy soiling. Regular vacuuming or spot cleaning with a damp cloth (lightly wrung) helps maintain appearance. Since these are not full-mat designs, they do not cover the front edge of the step—meaning bare wood remains visible at the leading edge. This detail may influence aesthetic preference, particularly in homes seeking seamless transitions between floor and stair surfaces.

Finehous designed these treads with everyday families and pet owners in mind, prioritizing safety, ease of use, and timeless style. Whether refreshing an entire staircase or protecting high-wear steps in a busy hallway, this 15-pack delivers comprehensive coverage without compromising on quality or visual harmony.

A few came dirty, the plastic backing is a small nightmare but the color is the standout feature.
A few of the treads had some kind of stain/residue but I was anxious to get them on the stairs for the dog so I just cleaned them with soap and water. They came folded loosely in half – not a great choice – but I didn’t bother to do anything about it and the crease has mostly settled down over the last week.Half of the treads plastic backing didn’t come off easily and that was a pain; the static cling was amazingly airborne and agile, quickly sucking itself to the walls (it came off easily enough but seriously didn’t expect that).Overall I liked that they are an inch deeper than most and work well on my stairs but more importantly for my dog with the low pile.Good, bad or otherwise they do a good job of capturing dog hair so I’ll take the silver lining that it gets trapped in one easy place to vacuum vs. all over the treads and below. The corners don’t have any sticky backing so some are still sticking up but I’m choosing to ignore that.Though I was torn, I kept it probably for the #1 reason that the color is really fantastic, neutral and blends nicely with my decor.

Challenging negative reviews – they are not true.
OK. Let me just say that I read the other negative reviews and I disagree with all of them. These are fantastic! They are beautiful, sleek, they look expensive – they aren’t just slabs of carpet, they are incredibly well made, with well constructed edges, they stick like crazy, and they are thick.Other reviewers complained about: They were folded because they came in a box (omg), the lip creates a tripping hazard, they don’t stick, they are too thin, they aren’t made of jute. I found zero issues with any of these.Mine also came folded in a box and also had a fold marks, once you stick them down (by removing the plastic backing), the fold is gone. Some of mine were wrinkled and even the wrinkles were gone once they were stuck down. The lip creates a tripping hazard: There is no way you can trip over these, it is literally impossible, unless you climb stairs on your toes and on the edges. Or perhaps if you install the tread hanging over the edge of the stair, maybe then sure. They don’t stick: I wonder if reviewers removed the backing and/or if they gave the stair a quick wipe down before sticking them down? I think many people missed that there is a removable plastic backing on these honestly, they stick like crazy! They also re-stick like crazy, I had to make several adjustments and they were easy to pull up and easy to stick down again. They are too thin: Uh, no. They are almost too thick. I’m not sure what the reviewer complaining about them being too thin was talking about. They bend in the middle: They don’t, they stick down flat. If you look at the reviewers picture you can see they bend in the middle because they are too long for the treads they were placed on.Measure first. They aren’t made of jute: They are not, the name of the color is “Jute beige” – if you read further it will tell you what these are made of and it is not jute.I LOVE THESE! I’ll be buying another set for the stairs going up to the 3rd floor. And for 15 treads at $40? It’s a great price!

    Absolutely ridiculous
Well they came folded. Which ruined them. Who FOLDS CARPET??? THEY CAME FOLDED IN A TINY BOX. Shame on the manufacturer. There is legit no way to get the curve out . I even sat heavy stuff on them hoping to fix it. But nope.

    Stair Treads
I have very steep stairs in my historic home and my Labrador Daisy is afraid to climb them so I wanted something temporary and stylish. The treads are very pretty but way too thin. So thin that the adhesive backing does not stick well and each tread curls in the center.

Does not secure at edges, creating a trip hazard at the front of the step
These are thin polyester carpet tiles for stair treads, with a 3/8 inch finished edge. Though the finished edge looks nice, there is no adhesive backing on the edges. This creates a trip hazard, as the front edge is not secured to the step an can create a trip hazard if the carpet tile goes all the way to the edge of the stair tread, as is the case for my basement stairway installation. The photo showing an adhesive surface to the edges is a inaccurate. The top finish is a very flat weave, with no depth. I laughed when reading the included care instructions that tell you to machine wash them.

Easy to install. Feels nice on touch. Practical grip.
I got this pack to replace an existing, similar stair tread carpet from Amazon. The older ones didn’t have any anti-slip treatment on the backing—even thought they said it did—and annoyingly kept moving around. This product certainly has a better grip on the surface; as long as the stair surfaces are clean enough, the sticky backing won’t move around easily unless you pick the piece up.The thickness is pretty nice and provides a touch of padding when stepping on them. While it’s not natural jute material, the texture feels very pleasant on bare foot and the color looks charming on hard wood stairs. As another reviewer mentioned, however, the non-slip backing doesn’t extend all the way to the edges where there’s stitching around all borders. For me it doesn’t cause any issues because my stairs are deeper than these treads, but if your stairs are shallower, these pieces might become a trip hazard as they might stick out.All in all, a great, cost-effective product for me, and I’d definitely recommend it. Just make sure to measure the space beforehand.

    Look cheap
I was hoping for a better quality, there are many brands out there so I would look around a little. I have not put them on yet so I can’t say how well they stick.
