Product Overview
The Milescraft 8409 MC-Square150 & 8408 Center Finder & 1312 Drill Block set combines three essential hand tools into one practical solution for woodworking, framing, and precision layout tasks. Designed for both DIY enthusiasts and professional carpenters, this trio enhances accuracy in measurement, marking, and hole-drilling without requiring complex machinery or specialized jigs. Each component is engineered to support common workshop applications—whether you’re aligning boards, scribing centerlines, or drilling straight pilot holes—making it a go-to toolkit for projects where consistency matters.
Key Features
- MC-Square150 (Model 8409) – Aluminum Framing and Woodworking Square: Crafted from durable aluminum, this square offers reliable right-angle measurements and crisp layout lines. Its unique feature is a removable fence that allows dual functionality: use it flat on your work surface for direct marking or reattach the fence as an edge guide during joinery, dado cuts, or sawing operations. For best results, ensure the fence is fully seated before tightening to maintain true 90-degree alignment.
- Center Finder (Model 8408) – Center Scriber and Offset Measuring Tool: This tool simplifies accurate centerline marking on materials up to 2-1/2 inches thick. Simply position the Center Finder across your workpiece so both guide posts rest firmly against the edges. Insert a standard pencil into the central hole and rotate the tool while maintaining contact—this motion draws a clean, centered line along either the face or edge of the board. Ideal for dowel placement, hinge installation, or mortise layout.
- Drill Block (Model 1312) – Handheld Drill Guide Jig: Engineered to eliminate wobble and slippage, the Drill Block includes six metal guides sized for the most commonly used drill bits. The rigid construction ensures straight, repeatable holes every time, even when working at awkward angles or on vertical surfaces like cabinets or wall frames. Clear centerlines help align the jig precisely with your intended hole location, improving overall accuracy during drilling operations.
- Compact and Portable Design: Lightweight yet sturdy, each tool is easy to transport and store—perfect for job sites, home workshops, or mobile setups where space and mobility are important.
- Precision Alignment Features: All three tools incorporate clearly marked reference edges and centerlines to support consistent, repeatable results across marking and drilling tasks.
Technical Specifications
- MC-Square150 (Model 8409): Made of aluminum; features imperial-scale markings; includes a removable fence for versatile use.
- Center Finder (Model 8408): Designed for materials up to 2-1/2” thick; uses a standard pencil for scribing; relies on guide posts to ensure accurate centering.
- Drill Block (Model 1312): Includes six common drill bit size guides (exact sizes depend on model specifications); constructed with metal guides to prevent slippage; equipped with centerlines for alignment.
- Package Contents: One MC-Square150 (8409), one Center Finder (8408), and one Drill Block (1312).
Benefits & Use Cases
This toolset shines in situations demanding repeatable layouts and precise hole placement. The MC-Square150 is ideal for verifying right angles, laying out dados, or guiding rip cuts along straight edges. When used with its attached fence, it becomes a trusted edge guide for assembly checks or straight-line scoring. The Center Finder removes guesswork from tasks like installing hinges, placing dowels, or marking mortises by delivering a perfectly centered reference line every time. Meanwhile, the Drill Block simplifies drilling pilot holes, countersinks, or through-holes in wood, plastic, or light metals—especially useful when working vertically or in tight spaces where freehand drilling can lead to crooked results. Together, these tools reduce setup time, minimize errors, and support cleaner joints and more reliable builds across a wide range of projects.
Important Notes
- Always ensure the fence on the MC-Square150 is fully seated and securely tightened before use to preserve its 90-degree accuracy.
- When using the Center Finder, rotate the tool slowly until both guide posts make firm contact with the workpiece to guarantee centered marking.
- The Drill Block is designed specifically for six common drill bit sizes—verify compatibility with your chosen bits before use.
- User feedback indicates general satisfaction with functionality, though some report variability in build quality, perceived value, and long-term durability; evaluate based on your project needs.
- Not independently tested or certified by third-party organizations; performance based on reported user experiences.

Good shop size
Good product, typical Milescraft reasonable price. I particularly like the size for testing square on my bandsaw, jointer and table saw.Accurate and I tested that statement. I used multiple known square items as well as the flip flop line draw method. The markings are not painted on they are etched in and then filled with an opposite color for visibility and so they won’t wear off.Very easy to read.I hope they hold accuracy, but the way they are designed it sure appears as they would.I would recommend and purchase this side of them again.

Square
It’s square, all right. Easy to read markings. For some reason, I haven’t used it as much as I thought I would. Maybe the protractor on the inside angle puts me off. I usually reach for my 6″ combination square instead of this. It may be perfect for your needs.

Adjusting for Accuracy took less than 2 minutes.
Lots of complaints over this 6â not being 100% square. This one here – also arrived just a tiny bit out of squareâ¦. But all I had to do was unscrew the base, square up on any other accurate square nearby… and it’s good :)Scribing on stock… feels super solid and smooth. I’m using a – Staedtler 0.9mm Mechanical Pencil Night Blue Series (925 35-09)$10 Bucks well invested :)Cheers!- LS

Like the size and scribe lines but wasnât square
Iâm a big fan of Milescraft products (counted 12 of their products I purchased from Amazon alone) and this was one of my favorites. Iâve been using it routinely for a while and liked the ease of use, scribe lines and size. Recently I saw someone mention it on a woodworking deal group and how the one they purchased wasnât square. So I double checked mine and sure enough it was off from all my other squares and when doing a line test. My bad for not checking it as I had grown to trust their products. So I took off the bottom piece using the 2 bolts to see if that was the cause and found out there is a notch so it canât be used without that piece, as a square at least. I then put the bottom piece back on, but backwards, and once put back together, the issue was corrected and it was square. Makes me wonder if there is some variability on the bottom piece so it can be off depending on which direction itâs put together. Or maybe the screws were off and that corrected it but feels like the bottom piece was the cause. Just an idea to try before throwing it away. Hope that helps
