Product Overview

This replacement cylinder lock is engineered to serve as a functional and visually compatible solution for sliding patio door handle sets that utilize Weiser, Kwikset, and Weslock-shaped keyways. Designed primarily for surface-mounted installations, it offers a practical alternative when original key cylinders have been damaged, worn out, or lost entirely—especially when spare keys are unavailable or broken. While the lock’s profile and internal cuts closely mirror those of genuine Weiser, Kwikset, and Weslock systems, it is important to note that this product is not officially compatible with authentic brand locking mechanisms. Instead, it functions as an aesthetic match intended to blend seamlessly with existing hardware while restoring essential security to your patio door.

Constructed from solid brass, the lock body ensures durability and resistance to wear over time, making it suitable for regular use in residential settings. The exterior features a polished chrome face finish that enhances both visual appeal and protection against corrosion, helping maintain a clean and modern look on exterior doors. Its design prioritizes compatibility across various patio door configurations, particularly those where the latch extends vertically or at a 45-degree angle when locked—depending on how the handle mechanism operates.

Ideal for homeowners, property managers, and maintenance professionals seeking cost-effective repairs, this cylinder lock eliminates the need for full handle assembly replacements. Whether you’re restoring functionality after a lost key or addressing a cracked cylinder, this component delivers reliable performance without compromising on form. Though not classified as a premium-grade security device, it provides sufficient strength for typical residential use when installed correctly.

Key Features

  • Aesthetic Keyway Matching: The lock’s shape and internal cuts are carefully designed to visually resemble actual Weiser, Kwikset, and Weslock keys, ensuring a cohesive appearance when paired with existing door handles.
  • Solid Brass Construction: Built from high-quality brass material, the core of the lock offers long-term resilience against daily wear and environmental exposure.
  • Chrome Face Finish: A polished chrome surface improves corrosion resistance and adds a sleek, contemporary touch to your patio door hardware.
  • Hardened Cut-Away Tailpiece: This reinforced component securely interfaces with standard patio door latches, promoting smooth operation and consistent engagement during locking and unlocking.
  • Universal Keyway Orientation Support: Compatible with both vertical and 45-degree keyway angles—determined by the position of the latch when the door is locked—making it adaptable to various sliding door setups.

Technical Specifications

  • Outside Diameter: 1-9/16 inches
  • Material: Solid brass (lock body)
  • Finish: Chrome face
  • Tailpiece Type: Hardened cut-away design
  • Compatible Keyways: Vertical and 45-degree orientations (angle based on latch extension when locked)
  • Intended Application: Surface-mounted sliding patio door handle sets

Benefits & Use Cases

This cylinder lock excels in scenarios where the original key cylinder has failed due to damage, loss, or breakage of the key itself. It is especially valuable for restoring access to sliding patio doors without replacing entire handle assemblies—a common issue in older homes or rental properties where hardware upgrades are limited. Homeowners who prioritize maintaining uniform exterior aesthetics will find the lock’s close visual match to branded systems beneficial, as it avoids mismatched finishes or outdated designs.

Professional installers appreciate its straightforward integration into existing units, reducing labor costs and downtime during repairs. DIY enthusiasts also benefit from its simple installation process, provided they confirm keyway alignment and mechanical compatibility before proceeding. While not designed as a high-security upgrade, it effectively restores baseline functionality for everyday use, including securing doors against casual intrusion.

The lock’s universal fit supports retrofitting into a wide range of sliding door models, though success may vary depending on frame tolerances and prior modifications. Users should inspect the current cylinder housing and test-fit the new component before final mounting to ensure proper operation. In cases where the latch mechanism has shifted or been altered, minor adjustments may be necessary to achieve optimal engagement.

Important Notes

While this replacement lock mimics the appearance and general dimensions of Weiser, Kwikset, and Weslock systems, it is not officially sanctioned or functionally compatible with their proprietary mechanisms. Customers must verify physical fitment, including keyway orientation and tailpiece compatibility, before purchasing. Some users report positive experiences, noting that the lock performs adequately for light-duty applications and blends well with existing hardware.

However, feedback from other customers indicates potential durability concerns under heavy use, with instances of cracking or structural failure reported. Fit and key operation can vary depending on individual door frame conditions, previous repairs, or non-standard modifications. These inconsistencies highlight the importance of careful evaluation during installation. Always test the lock thoroughly after installation to confirm smooth interaction with the handle and secure latching action.

This product serves strictly as a cosmetic and functional substitute and should not be considered a top-tier security solution. For enhanced protection, consider pairing it with additional locking mechanisms or upgrading to certified hardware if long-term reliability is a priority. Always follow manufacturer guidelines during installation and consult a professional if uncertain about compatibility or mechanical requirements.

    Easy to install
Just as described, easy to install. When I purchased this house there were no keys for the sliding glass door lock leaving me with only one way in. Did the trick, now I can get in or out both doors and lock them.

    Rekeying info
The lock works well and was easy to install.Rekeying info:This lock cylinder is rekeyable and comes apart just like a deadbolt cylinder. However, the cylinder and pins in it are a slightly different height than regular kwikset cylinder and pins making the kwikset pins a little too tall. If you want to rekey it to match your existing kwikset doors you will need to file down the new pins you insert, just a bit, so that they are flush with the top of the cylinder. It is easy to do with a file for wood or metal and it doesn’t take much work to get them down far enough to work in the lock with your existing key.As the cylinder and pins are a different height than standard kwikset, the key bitting depth is different than a kwikset, so if you want to use the new key to rekey all of your doors, you’ll have to do the same thing and file down the new kwikset pins that you insert. Also, if this is the route you take, note that the key is a little thicker than a standard kwikset k-1 key so for the key to fit in a standard lock you would need to have a kwikset copy made. I found that our Lowe’s chain hardware store had upgraded to an automated cutting machine that wouldn’t copy the key so I had to bring it to a smaller hardware store that still did the cutting by hand. The new k-1 kwikset keys work perfectly in the lock.

    Fits, Works, However…..
Bought this to replace the existing one in the Pella French patio door at my apartment. It around 25-30% of the price for one from Pella, this was a phenomenal deal. It fit and works fine, the tabs on the tailpiece bar is segmented and be cut away or simply snapped off with a couple pairs of pliers as needed. My biggest concern is the tailpiece seems very loose and sloppy, and I don’t know how well this will stand up. That being said, I specifically got it because I had no key for the old one and it is faster and easier to enter and leave my apartment through that door, and since I installed it, I have only used my regular door to get my Amazon packages, and it’s definitely possible that it will be fine.

    Horrible
My door handles fell off. I could reinstall because I didn’t have patio door keys. I looked up new sets with lock and it was 120. Instead I chose this and disassembled the lock mechanism and switched it out. Not bad for an 113 dollar fix. I used a file to make indentation for marker easier to break. I have arthritis and was able to do this so don’t worry about strength just kept going back and for on easier side and it will break.Update, it is too floppy to work, won’t fit into the door, I notice between picture 1 which is original and pic 2 you can see that the tongue isn’t stiff enough to go into the slot.also you can see the hole it resides in is way too big. I’m hoping this is defective and not how they build things. Waste of money and time

    Decent lock with some drawbacks
Got this to replace a Milgard patio door lock. The installation was easy and quick, but the lock has a couple of drawbacks. Even though it does not feel loose, the cylinder seems to spin a bit under certain conditions which makes it feel less secure. The other issue, and this may be a problem with how the Milgard patio door is designed, is that I cannot lock the patio door from the outside. Turning the key engages the lock, but in order to release the key after locking, I have to turn the cylinder back to the neutral position which in turn unlocks the door. It’s not a huge deal for me since I don’t usually need to lock this door from the outside, but something to consider if you’re looking for that functionality.

    Perfect replacement. Easy to do!
This was an excellent purchase. I replaced the cylinder locks in my mothers sliding patio doors with these as a keyed alike set. It takes about 5 minutes with a screwdriver. 5 pin security and no exorbitant locksmith fees. Anyone can do it. The locksmith wanted ten times the price just to come out and then 30 dollars per lock and 15 dollars more to cut keys for the locks. This was a much better option. The only other thing that I did was use some graphite lube to keep them working smoothly.

I purchased this for the rolling door of my basement. It came on time with decent packaging and sealed. I’m a regular DIY and installed it without problem. I attached pictures of before and after installation. It looks and works well.

The first look close I purchased fell apart. The second one installed ok but would not lock the door. A friend is a locksmith came and we discovered the lock was put together backwards, so he found one in his truck and installed it now it works great. It might be cheaper to purchase this product to begin with but the aggravation is not.

Replaced Schlage keyway in my slider door to match my newer Weiser smart key locks, just had to have the keys that came with the lock recut as the thinner new smart keys are, after reprogramming my Weiser locks with the new slim sliding door key, they work great! The new cylinder was slightly more robust than the stock lock that came with sliding door originally.
