Designed for simplicity, sustainability, and rich flavor, this French press lets you brew full-bodied coffee using just coarse ground beans and hot water—no filters, no capsules, no electricity required. With its generous 1.5-liter capacity, it’s perfect for home brewing or serving guests without constant refills. Whether you’re starting your morning routine or hosting friends, the Brazil French press delivers café-quality coffee in an eco-friendly package that reduces waste while maximizing taste.

Benefits & Use Cases

The Bodum Brazil 4-Minute French Press transforms how you enjoy coffee at home. By steeping coarse grounds directly in hot water, it extracts oils and aromatics that paper filters typically remove, resulting in a fuller, more robust cup without bitterness—when used correctly. Its large capacity makes it especially practical for households where multiple people drink coffee daily or during weekend brunches and casual get-togethers. Because it operates without power, it’s equally suited to dorm rooms, camping trips, or any setting where access to electricity isn’t available but hot water is.

Sustainability is built into every step. Unlike single-serve pods or disposable paper filters, this French press eliminates recurring costs and environmental waste. Over time, skipping paper filters alone can significantly reduce both spending and trash output. Users appreciate the hands-on control over brew strength—adjusting coffee quantity or grind coarseness lets you fine-tune flavor to preference without special equipment.

While the process is straightforward, achieving consistent results does require attention to technique: always use coarse grind coffee, fully submerge grounds with hot water (just off boil), steep precisely four minutes, then press down slowly and steadily. Rushing the steep or using too fine a grind may lead to over-extraction and bitterness; conversely, under-steeping or insufficient tamping can yield weak brews. With proper use, however, the Brazil delivers reliably bold, aromatic coffee worthy of specialty cafés—without leaving your kitchen.

Important Notes

For best results, adhere to these guidelines:

  • Use only coarsely ground coffee—medium or fine grinds will clog the mesh filter or create bitter flavors.
  • Ensure adequate tamping pressure when pressing the plunger to achieve proper extraction.
  • Brew time should be exactly 4 minutes; shorter durations won’t extract enough flavor, longer ones risk over-extraction.
  • If adjusting coffee volume or grind size, you may need to reprogram your brewing routine to maintain desired strength.

Although the glass carafe and stainless steel plunger are dishwasher safe, handwashing helps preserve clarity and prolongs the life of both components. Replacement carafes are readily available if accidental breakage occurs. Note that this model is part of Bodum’s broader Brazil series, which includes smaller 12-ounce and 34-ounce variants—allowing you to choose the ideal size for your household or travel needs.

Experience the joy of slow-brewed coffee with zero compromises on quality, convenience, or conscience. The Bodum Brazil 51oz French Press proves that great design, sustainable practices, and delicious coffee can all coexist—without breaking the bank.

    Older Version Was Better
I’ve used the older version of this press for over 10 years, though I use it for loose leaf tea rather than coffee. It’s version with a more domed lid, a straight vertical handle, stamped that it’s made in Denmark. The glass beaker is basically the same on both so far, but the older Denmark version definitely has far better build and materials quality for the plastic and metal components. The newer, flat lid version is made in Portugal, and I’ve had more frustrations with it in only about a month. Metal mesh doesn’t seem to fit as well, and it is bent in some strange ways around the edges, which I can’t seem to bend out. The lid is also looser around the center bar, and is balanced so that when tipped backwards to insert into the beaker, the lid tends to spin around backwards on its own.Overall, the press still works great, and I would recommend it, just try to find the Denmark version of you can.

A great French Press from a solid manufacturer
This is our second French press. Our first was a 4-cup Bodum, which was (and still is) working well. That press is just a little small for us. We wanted a larger press to get more coffee out of one process (heating the water, measuring the grounds, steeping, etc.).It’s a good size and makes a little bit over 6 (8-oz) cups of coffee. If you’re like me, that is more practically about 4 coffee mugs (depending on the size of your mug, of course). We are very happy with the size. We end up making coffee twice using this press, as opposed to making at least 3 “batches” using the smaller, 4-cup version. If you’re new to the French press, we suggest you get an electric kettle as well. Using a French press is not as simple as pushing a button on a drip coffee maker, but it is still very easy to use. But, the results! If you want your morning coffee to taste amazing, this is a great way to get there. I’m convinced that no drip coffee maker can match the French Press, and Bodum makes a great one.

    Perfect large French press
This French press works great! It consistently brews a rich, full-bodied coffee that highlights the flavors of my favorite beans. The plunger mechanism is smooth and efficient, ensuring that the grounds are thoroughly pressed, resulting in a clean, sediment-free cup. One of the standout features is how easy it is to clean. The components disassemble effortlessly, and the stainless steel parts are dishwasher safe, making the cleanup process a breeze. Even hand washing is straightforward, with no tricky nooks or crannies to worry about. The large capacity is perfect for my household. It can easily brew enough coffee for several people, making it ideal for family breakfasts or when entertaining guests. No more multiple brewing cycles to satisfy everyone’s caffeine needs! It has truly enhanced my coffee experience, and I’m sure it will do the same for you!

    High quality bodum
Fantastic LITTLE French press. I did not pay enough attention to the oz size listed, its is a pint sized 12oz – perfect for a self serve cup of coffee or loose leaf tea. Too cute, so I brought it in for work for my occasional 1 cup of coffee or tea in the afternoon. If you’ve bought bodum before, you’ll be pleased. If you’re new to bodum, their quality is exceptional and timeless. So happy with this little French press!

    Coffee tastes better in press
Works well for me. Taste is fuller and richer than with my My coffee. Presses well even using fine ground coffee. Haven’t bothered to use coarse grind yet. Make sure you leave enough room for the press to be put on after stirring coffee. If you don’t you may be some grinds on the wrong side of the filter. Easy to clean. When done there is almost no liquid left in the grinds (less messy in compost bucket).

    Great size
Purchased a small french press in Paris this summer. Small so I could pack and bring it home. Now at home I thought I could make more than a cup at a time so I bought this bigger one. It’s the same brand as my little Paris one and works just as easily. I’m not crazy about the clean up but the coffee it makes is definitely worth the effort and now I only have to clean every other day!

Cumple lo que promete, es de fácil cuidado y muy práctica. Su capacidad es de una sola taza. Mantiene las bebidas calientes por largo tiempo (en comparación con tener la bebida servida en una taza).
