Installing and Operating this Schlage Encode Smart Wi-Fi Deadbolt: Easy!
Product: Schlage Encode Smart Wi-Fi DeadboltI read reviews on many of the Wi-Fi locks before deciding on this unit. I am very glad that I chose this one.Modified 12/2/2023 to add battery life notePros: ⢠Materials: All components required for installation and use, including batteries, provided with unit. ⢠Instructions: ok but on-line instructions very good. ⢠Installation: Took about 20 minutes to install and set up. I had to spend a little extra time drilling out the bolt passageway – 1″ bolt mechanism on this unit, 7/8″ on my door before drilling to 1″. ⢠Alexa integration: Simple! Locks and unlocks with code. Voice activations locks no prompt, unlocks after asking for code. ⢠Schlage app: Works fine. Lock/Unlock, set up users, get history of lock activity. Multiple locks may be set up in app. ⢠Battery life: I used the lock about 50-60 times testing it and showing it off. Battery life is at 99%. Batteries are (4) AA. I noticed when installing the lock that it was easy to bind the bolt mechanism with too much torque on the screws. I backed of a bit, added a couple of drops of oil, and the bolt mechanism slides freely. I wonder if those reporting low battery life may have some issue with the bolt moving freely.⢠Added 12/2/2023: The lock shows 94% battery life in the app. I installed it three weeks ago. If linear battery usage at current rate, the batteries would last about 1 year for this installation. The electric lock motor is used about 6 times a day. ⢠WiFi Connectivity: No issues. Took about 45 seconds to connect. I have a modern 802.11ax Asus router.Cons: ⢠None at this time! I will modify this post if issues arise. ⢠12/2: Three weeks in – no issues. Works perfectly. I’ll be adding another for a side door.

One of our best purchases
This is my 4th lock I peurchase. We have used Schlage brand smart locks for 7 years. We changed all our locks with the Schlage Encode them in all our rental homes. It’s a game changer! This lock is a workhorse. Never had any issues with them even during the cold winter months. The battery use is great, work fine with the WiFi. Never failed us. The app is convenient and easy to use to change the codes and monitor your battery life. Absolutely no drama with them. They even come with different trims and colors for easy customization with your house esthetic. Just buy it!

Quality WiFi deadbolt lock
Schlage quality.. enough said. Easy to install, great instructions, and simple to use. Connected to Google Home and everything works exactly as advertised. I purchased this lock for our lake house, and we have the same units installed at our residence. Schlage is the best in my opinion.

Functionalitywise, NOT as advertised
Packaging: missing a reinforcement plate, with a hole in the corner.Installation and setup:Hardware installation – at the start, using the provided batteries, the low battery sign came up as very low and did not operate. After putting in new batteries of my own, setting up the hardware, and putting back the original batteries, it did work. The reinforcement plate was not the correct one, so I had to use the old plate which was already in the door frame; luckily, it did work with the striker.Other than the above issues, the installation of the hardware was just like a normal deadbolt.Software installation, the app â the Schlage app is not compatible with my Samsung tablet. On my Samsung cell phone, the app was installed, and once it connected to the lock via reading the barcode, it simply hung during wifi setup, not able to find any of my 5 routers in the house. So, after paying top dollar, this bolt is nothing more than the old one just with a fancy key panel and batteries which needs to be replaced. The main purpose of getting this system was to be able to lock it via wifi. This was supposed to be the first one, out of 5 I was planning, but it does not worth it.

Beautiful lock, but not a match for my existing Schlage deadbolt hole
Bummed, it’s way too big for my door and drilling a larger hole is not an option. The Camelot design is a perfect match otherwise to my older similar style deadbolt though. It would have been great if the center part wasn’t so much larger than my original deadbolt. 😮 If you have a smaller bore hole for your deadbolt, this lock won’t work unless you have the room on the door to make the hole larger.

It’s almost perfect
By far and away much better lock than any others we’ve tried by August and even the one that partnered with Google home. This one actually works well and constantly and the battery life is great. The one thing that still bugs me is that if I type in my code and it’s unlocked, it will then Lock. I wish they would fix that with firmware, because it’s annoying when you just got home from work and I accidentally lock it because my wife beat me home.Other than that, this thing is fantastic, and looks great. It was easy to install, works with wifi/internet access, and is very reliable. It fit well on my standard sized door.

works well either by physical key, keypad, or app
You can lock/unlock either using the physical key, a code on the keypad, or using the app. I usually lock it using the keypad but unlock it using the app (so the door is unlocked before I walk up to the door with my hands full). As for the codes, I’m glad to see that once the codes have been set (using the app), the lock knows the codes so if the wifi or power goes out, the lock still works. It only needs wifi for you to use the app. If wifi is down, you can still lock/unlock using the physical key or codes on the keypad.I haven’t tested the advanced features but I’m quite happy with the lock. Very easy to install.

I purchased this for my out of town AIRBNB. It works great! Able to program a lot of codes and give timeframe for when the codes will work. We installed in September and it’s now January – the batteries are at around 61% and it’s located in Canada. Better lifespan than I expected. I opted for this brand because they’re a lock company first, not a tech company first. You get a history of who unlocked the door and when. No issues with making extra copies of the keys or with the actual function of the lock. My husband said it was pretty straight forward to install. The black was on a really good sale so we went with this one but I think the lighter colours would be easier to see in the dark – before you get to the point of lighting up the keypad.

This is a really great lock for facilities requiring detailed access control and logging. Installation is simple, the app works well and is easy to navigate, and it’s easy to share control of the lock.My biggest complaint is that the screen is BLACK until you touch it. Even in a well lit environment, it is almost impossible to see the buttons. There is only one button you may touch that does not count as part of your log in attempt, and if you don’t know that, or if you touch the wrong button and don’t know how to clear it, you will be locked out for a few minutes. This lock could use a proximity sensor, so that it lights up when someone approaches it.**UPDATE: it seems that, at least on the unit we received, the battery carrier is not a very tight fit, and can move out of contact with the electronics. This leaves the unit completely dead, until someone with a key can unlock it and wedge a shim in behind the carrier

I bought the Schlage Encode so that I would be able to open my front door remotely in the event of an emergency. I initially had difficulty contacting the company but a member of Amazonâs leadership team in product support intervened on my behalf. After that, everything was perfect.Set up was extremely easy. A representative from Schlage walked me through the entire process. I am a senior citizen and was able to remove the old lock and install this one myself. The company even followed up with an email and phone call to make sure that everything was okay. The lock is amazing. You can lock the door with a keypad, traditional key or use Alexa or other assistants. The Schlage Encode works well with my Echo speakers. I just use my voice to lock the door. The Schlage app is very intuitive and once it is installed you can control the lock from that app or the Alexa app. You can program it to lock automatically when the door is closed and set an alarm to go off it someone tampers with the lock. It is a must for anyone living alone.

After going through 3 front door locks before this one, I can say I’ve found what I was looking for. Perfect fit color for the SCHLAGE FE285 CAM 622 GEO Camelot Trim Lower Half Front Entry Handleset black matte, which I purchased separated. Installation process through the web site was really smooth as well as the Wi-Fi pairing. the app works well. The only thing is I would like to this come with two physical keys, as its comes with just one, so I hope I can make duplicates. I totally recommend this.
