Art historians and cultural researchers will appreciate the scholarly approach and precise documentation of each design’s provenance, supporting comparative analysis and preservation efforts. The clarity of the illustrations makes it possible to study geometric forms, floral arrangements, and border styles that recur across Persian carpets, revealing underlying compositional principles shared among diverse weaving communities.

Even hobbyists engaged in rug-making, embroidery, or handweaving benefit from having a focused visual guide. By studying these designs, they gain insight into traditional techniques and learn how master weavers balance symmetry, proportion, and ornamentation. Each illustration functions not just as a decorative image, but as a technical blueprint rooted in centuries of practice.

Beyond its practical applications, Persian Carpet Designs also acts as an educational resource for those exploring the cultural significance of Persian textiles. The patterns often carry symbolic meanings—representing protection, fertility, or spiritual concepts—adding layers of interpretation that enrich both personal appreciation and academic study.

    Very Poor Book
Very poor book, 2 pages of text and about 45 pages of diagrams without any description, I could only recognise maybe 5 motifs out of 45.Don’t waste your money on this.

    A black-and-white view…
This book presents a perspective on the geometric designs and patterns of Iranian carpetry. It does what it aims to do. A person interested in the wealth of hues which make up a carpet from this part of the world might wish to look elsewhere.

No text as to what the different drawings refer to.
This is a softbound set of drawings of persian designs with no explanation whatsoever as to what they stand for. Is it intended to be a coloring book?

Though the author does explain the importance of individual and village variations of the patterns in traditional carpet designs, all this does is present 40+ b&w drawings of the author’s “interpretations” of the generic patterns commonly come across. There’s more information in the one line synopsis above than in the whole of the book! One for the rummage sale – bargain hunters be warned!

Mich nervt diese Amazon Richtlinie mit der geforderten Wortanzahl, daher für Alle, es war ein reibungsloser Ablauf und immer wieder gerne. TippTopp sozusagen.
