Benefits & Use Cases

This Schlage keypad deadbolt is ideal for homeowners seeking modern convenience without sacrificing security. Its universal fit allows for straightforward replacement of existing deadbolts on interior or exterior doors—no major renovations necessary. Families appreciate the ability to grant temporary access to caregivers, cleaning services, or delivery personnel without handing over physical keys. Parents can create unique codes for kids returning home after school, while grandparents receive permanent access without worrying about misplaced keys.

The illuminated keypad enhances usability around the clock. Whether entering late at night or navigating poorly lit hallways, the bright LED feedback ensures accurate code entry, reducing frustration and minimizing the chance of incorrect inputs. The tactile silicone buttons also offer a satisfying click response, confirming each digit has been registered—even for users with reduced dexterity.

For those prioritizing energy efficiency and sustainability, the long battery life reduces waste compared to frequently replaced units. And because there’s no external wiring, there’s no risk of electrical faults or short circuits affecting performance.

Whether upgrading an older home’s security system or adding smart features to a new build, this deadbolt delivers consistent, dependable operation backed by a brand with over 100 years of expertise. Many users report satisfaction with its reliability, ease of setup, and value proposition. While some note variations in perceived build quality among similar models, the BE365 consistently performs well within its class.

Important Notes Before Purchase

Before ordering, confirm your door meets compatibility requirements by measuring:
– Backset (distance from edge of door to center of cylinder): Must be either 2-3/8″ or 2-3/4″
– Cross Bore Diameter: Typically 2-1/8″ (standard for deadbolts)
– Door Thickness: Minimum 1-3/8″, maximum 1-3/4″

While installation is designed for DIY enthusiasts with basic hand tools, individuals unfamiliar with door hardware may find it helpful to consult a locksmith or handyman for initial setup. Programming additional user codes is straightforward via the keypad interface—follow the step-by-step prompts included in the manual.

Battery replacement follows standard 9V procedures. Always use fresh, high-quality batteries to maintain optimal performance. Avoid mixing old and new batteries, as this can reduce overall lifespan and cause inconsistent behavior.

Warranty coverage applies only to defects in materials and workmanship. Normal wear and tear, improper installation, or damage from misuse are excluded. For complete warranty details, visit the official Schlage support site or contact customer service directly.

    Easy setup and looks good
The setup was quick and easy. The keyless entry is super convenient. Seems solid, secure, and the battery lasts well, no issues so far. Basic but looks quite good to me.

Unbeatable in Installation, Quality, and Ease of use.
At the time i bought this i had owned a ‘Kwikset featuring SmartKey SmartCode Single Cylinder Electronic Deadbolt, Satin Nickel 909 15 SMT CP’ for 1 years time. then decided to change after the mechanism in the kwikset malfunction and Kwiksets replacement unit did not even work on arrival. there is a fundamental flaw in them that is NOT in the Schlage which I will discuss. My first impressions on this deadbolt were the same as my keyed entry lock+ door handle unit that i had bought a year prior. right out of the box, everything was in the box, very detailed instructions for both installation of the deadbolt and operation of the deadbolt and the incredible ‘rock solid’ feel of the Schlage brand.Installation:Installation is a breeze if you have any experience with door locks or slim to none. even with no experience i would find it strange if someone didn’t think that the install process on this deadbolt was easy. If you have no experience, just follow the very detailed instructions that come with it. Took me less than 10 minutes to install. One thing i would note on the installation that i have never seen another deadbolt that i have bought come with was a ‘reinforcement’ plate for the door frame. it comes with very long screws as well to secure it incredible well into the door frame making it leaps and bounds more difficult for someone to kick in the door. the reinforcement plate i noticed felt like a different type of metal than everything else. Very solid and maybe 2-3 thicker than an average door plate.Operation/Features:Unlike my kwikset unit that i owned that actually operates a small internal motor(the part that is prone to failure on the Kwikset Unit) this Schlage deadbolt has a ‘freespinning’ lock unless the lock is ‘engaged’ in which case the ‘freespinning’ lock actually becomes like a ‘handle’ that you manually turn. the lock is engaged always from the manual switch from the back(what would be the inside of the home or building) or while it is unlocked and you hit the ‘Schlage’ button on the front of the unit for 5 seconds while the light is blinking. while the light blinks the lock is engaged and you turn with your hand from the outside to lock. To unlock from the outside is just as easy, enter your 4 digit code, the Schlage light will blink yellow for 5 seconds and your lock will rotate like a handle when you turn it to unlock your door. Really couldn’t get easier operation than this without an automatic electric motor. (but again, like in the Kwikset which has this, it is prone to failure) Of course another feature on the lock, keyed backup in case the battery dies before you can replace it.Keypad:The keypad is very bright when you press the Schlage button as it illuminates to a very bright blue. Enter code and presto, access to whatever lies behind the door with a flick of the wrist. I will not go into the operation on how to program the keypad as it is very straightforward and simple if you follow the manufacturers instructions on how to add/remove codes and enter a few different modes.Battery:My lock came with a 9v Duracell (shocking not a Chinese off brand battery?!) and the biggest difference i can note between this Schlage lock and my keypad+door handle Schlage is the battery compartment is WAY easier to get to. on the keypad + door handle unit, you must remove the entire lock from the door in order to access the battery compartment to change and the battery is on the outside of the unit(closer to the elements reduces battery life). On the Deadbolt however, the compartment is accessed by just removing the two back screws of the unit and removing this ‘cover’ plate. the battery is right there, the rest of the lock stays intact and the compartment is on the INSIDE of the door, away from the elements to help preserve the battery life.Final Thoughts:Just like my other Schlage unit, i am EXTREMELY satisfied with both operation, instructions, ease of use and Quality of this product. I really have no complaints. I will definitely be a repeat customer if i keep getting these fantastically designed and made locks.

    Superb
My handyman installed this for me in my brand new side door two days ago. I can’t say much about the ease of installation, since I didn’t install it myself. He did it correctly but had to study the directions for a while first since he had no experience in installing keypad deadbolts. This is so much more fun to have than I had thought. I should have had one installed years ago. It is surprisingly easy to operate and seems very secure. If you are carrying lots of packages and groceries, it is much easier to enter a code in the keypad than to look for keys, get them out, and put your packages down while you use them. I carried more groceries than you can imagine into my house this afternoon without having to put anything down while unlocking the door. You will no longer need to worry about locking yourself out.You can go on walks without taking your keys.I intend to change the battery once each year, whether it needs it or not. This could be done at the same time as you change the smoke alarm battery or doing some other yearly task. I no longer hide a key, which I think is a security risk. I do keep one at a different address/location but doubt it will ever be used. This deadbolt is well worth the money and the Antique Brass finish is absolutely beautiful (if that matters to you; it does to me). I recommend it highly.Since my other doors do not have Schlage locks, the locksmith tells me that there is no way to rekey all of them so that they all use just one key. Oh well. LOL Seems like every year I am carrying more keys than the last year.Edited to add: I just wanted to say that this was my favorite purchase of 2014 and it brightens my day every single day. Today is December 16th and by now I have had it for over 6 months. I have used it at least 1-2 times each day and it has worked flawlessly every single time without fail. I do plan to change the battery every January 1st, as a habit, so I will be doing that soon. I would recommend this keypad entry to you, so very highly.Edited again to add: In the summer of 2015 I moved to a new home, and I like these keypad deadbolts so much that I bought FOUR of them for the new home, one for every exterior door. They have been better than wonderful. I don’t want to sound too “over the top”, but these deadbolts are my favorite purchase ever. Well, other than the house itself. LOL Anyway, they work wonderfully. No problems with any of them, ever, not even once, as of April 2016 when I am writing this. They are so easy to operate, faster than a key really.I change the batteries on January 1st whether they need it or not, just because it’s easy to remember to do it then. I keep one of the spare keys in a drawer at home, and gave one to someone I trust. But really, what’s the chance of all four batteries going dead at once? Not much.

We now have two of these. Our first we bought some years ago in a Black Friday sale whilst in the USA. If this new one is anything like our existing one then we’ll have no complaints. Our first one is used daily & has been 100% reliable & looks as new as the day we bought it. Feels & looks strongly made, surprisingly easy to fit (we think!) Highly recommended.
