Product Overview

Pell and Stick Stair Treads Carpet offers a modern, hassle-free solution for enhancing both safety and style on wooden staircases. Designed specifically for wooden stair treads, this self-adhesive carpet runner eliminates the need for permanent installation or complex tools. Unlike traditional rubber-backed mats that often shift or curl at the edges, these stair treads use a powerful adhesive backing to stay securely in place with every step. Ideal for homeowners, renters, and anyone seeking an easy upgrade, the product combines durability with comfort underfoot. The soft yet resilient carpet surface not only reduces noise from footsteps but also protects your stairs from daily wear and tear. Whether you’re looking to prevent slips, add warmth to your staircase, or simply refresh the look of your home, Pell and Stick Streads deliver immediate results without the mess or downtime.

Benefits & Use Cases

This innovative stair tread system is perfect for improving household safety and comfort in high-traffic areas such as main stairways, entry halls, or bedrooms. For families with young children or elderly residents, the enhanced grip significantly lowers the risk of falls—a critical advantage in accident-prone environments. The cushioned carpet surface softens each step, offering added comfort during long walks up and down stairs while also helping to muffle sound for quieter living. Renters will appreciate how easily these treads can be applied and removed without damaging flooring or violating lease agreements. Beyond safety, the aesthetic upgrade transforms plain wooden steps into a polished, inviting space that complements any interior decor. Additionally, the carpet layer acts as a protective barrier against scratches, scuffs, and moisture damage caused by shoes, bags, or furniture contact—preserving the beauty and value of your hardwood stairs for years to come.

Important Notes

Proper preparation is essential for optimal adhesion. Before applying, ensure the wooden stair treads are thoroughly cleaned using soap and water, then completely dried—dust, oil, or moisture can compromise bonding. Avoid installation on painted, stained, unfinished, overly rough, or excessively porous wood surfaces. After positioning, apply firm, even pressure along the full length of each tread to maximize contact with the adhesive. While removal may leave behind minimal residue in rare cases, testing a small area first is recommended if you’re concerned about surface protection. Please note that this package includes only the individual tread pieces; no installation tools, cleaning supplies, or extra accessories are included. Always follow manufacturer guidelines for best results and longevity.

Super Nice, Soft, Elegant Stair Treads
These stair treads are beautiful! I think they look better in person than the photos on the product page honestly. They are SUPER soft and easy to vacuum as they are not too thick. They appear to be of good quality – there has been no shedding of material, and they have stick well to the stairs thus far. I was sure to give them a good washing before sticking these on to ensure a good clean adherence. At first, the backing may be challenging to peel off. Once you get the hang of it after a couple tries it will be easier. Be sure you PEEL TOWARDS THE EDGES, because otherwise the thin plastic may trip and it’s a challenge trying to find where the leftover piece begins. That being said, I think there should have been a thicker plastic or even paper backing used to make it easier to see, especially if it doesn’t peel of cleanly and you need to try and find where the tear is to peel the rest off. Very tedious. They apply small stickers to try and help indicate where to tear, but they were only marginally helpful. But overall, these are a really nice set of stair treads, and I would highly recommend these for anyone looking to sprucen up their stairwell. Five stars from me. 👍

    Enhances The Stairs
This came in exactly as expected for the stairs. The quality of the rugs is optimal and not overly thick or thin. The only exception I may make is that the peel off tabs for the adhesive which is located on the underside of the rugs is difficult to work with and peel off. It is floppy and flimsy and tears off in random areas making it a “peel and apply” application quite annoying. Should be as simple as pull off in 3 seconds and stick but when it starts getting stuck or tearing midway, it increases application time by 5x. Not practical for quick work. Other than this, once the hurdle is overcome, it does stick and stay well in place so this is at least justified with no issues.

    I Like Them
I like these runners and once on, they look pretty good. I took off stars because they are SUCH a pain to apply! The plastic layer coating the back is SO thin and sewn into the hems. Removing it, I had to get scissors to start a place to peel but the plastic is so thin that it tears off in little pieces. These pieces attract so much static, it takes time getting them off your clothes and fingers. This was tedious and I almost thought about tossing these treads altogether. I still have a few left to apply because it takes a while because of this issue. I recommend them only because they look and function pretty well, but the annoying cheap plastic removal gives me some pause.

Looks Great, But A Hassle To Put On
First, I really like the way the runners look. They are very classy, albeit a little thin. I have no issues with the thinness as I do not want thick runners on my stairs. My gripe is that it is a pain taking the plastic off the bottom of the runners to install them on the steps. The plastic is sewn into the runners along the edges and I had to use a knife to cut around the edge to be able to remove the plastic. Also, the plastic had a LOT of static when removed so it stuck to my fingers and was annoying to try to get it off. This is my only complaint. The runners look good. We will see how well they stick to the stairs in the long run.

    So far so good.
So far the stair rugs seem fine. I mopped the surface allowed it to dry and then stuck the rug down. It is not sticky in a way that will leave residue. I will watch for a few days to see if they move around and will update after the 1st wash.

    Excellent Quality
I know you’re supposed to use these stair runners on wood steps, but I need something desperately for my carpeted stairs. I’m very impressed with them and they work great on our thick carpet. They don’t shift too much and my stairs are more protected now. The design is also very elegant.
