I use it as an entryway rug
[See UPDATE at end of review.] I bought the 44″ width (in blue) several years back (from a well known outdoor goods catalog), and have used it as an entryway rug since â it’s never had a problem handling wet shoes, etc., and still looks great. It’s surprisingly thick and cushy underfoot. I like the 44″ inch one so much, I just bought the 56″ (also in blue), to use with a pair of larger side-by-side doors. (FYI, the rug “looks better” than in the main listing photo â the white border is actually a more pleasing tan. (The photos of the blue rug next to the burning fire are accurate, IMO.) Oh – and it’s never shed, etc. A pretty sturdy rug! (Never used it as a hearth rug though, so can’t speak to that.) [UPDATE: The rug does shed a bit âÂ I’ve had it three months now, and it’s required vacuuming a few times to remove built-up ‘fuzz’ across its surface – nothing major, but you may, like me, get several ‘dust bunnies’ shedding off of it, and showing up elsehwere in your home initially, at least â I’ll try to update this review in another few months with any further info. (FYI, would still have bought the rug, regardless – it’s definitely not a major issue.)]

Great protection in front of fireplaces.
A nice thick run, beautiful design, that matches the rectangular version and will keep our living room rug safe from amber damage.We use this rug in front of our fireplace insert to protect our living room rug from hot coals that somehow find their way onto the floor. We first purchased a half round years back from another company and it did the job of stopping the coals from reaching the main rug but even at its size one or two would roll over it onto the rug. So we bought a rectangular Minuteman Minuteman International H-32 Oriental to put before the half-round. Problem solved. But over the years the edge on the other brand of half round started to come apart, unravel, so this year we replaced it with this rug. Its pattern matches up with the rectangular rug purchased two years, though the color is a bit lighter. It is thicker than the other half-round or the rectangular.The nice thing about wool rugs is that when an amber or charcoal fall on it, it gives off an oder that alerts you to this fact. Just use your fireplace gloves to pick up the hot coal and put it back in the fireplace. Just brush over the area where the coal landed and you hardly notice it.I don’t know if this is more expensive than rugs you can find in other stores, but I will gladly pay more for the protection this one offers in front of the fireplace.

heavy duty
This is a nice looking fireplace mat but it is not made straight on the side that butts up to the hearth.

nice, thick rug
This hearth rug is thick and can withstand a dropped log or two. The others I looked at were very thin. Bright colors and very soft yet dense. I have had another virgin wool rug and the binding came off. This binding looks more durable. Looking forward to many years of use with this rug.

Product not as pictured
This product does not resemble the website photo. It is much less detailed in itâs design. I know because I have one that does look like the image online. Monuteman feedback indicated that they switch manufacturers resulting in the difference in appearance. Here is a photo of my older rug (closest to the stone hearth) that matches the online image next to one of the rugs I received recently.
