A modern look, moisture resistant, brighter light output fixture that consumed less energy which exceeded my expectations!
Bought this Hamilton Hills Flush Mount 12″ LED ceiling light to replace a standard bulb fixture in my bathroom. My objectives were to have a more modern look, moisture resistant, brighter light output fixture that consumed less energy. This fixture delivered on all counts, plus it was very inexpensive. It was very easy to install. I only needed a medium size Phillips head screwdriver. Due to the fact that the old fixture was mounted with a cross-bar I did have to remove that as the Hamilton Hills unit mounts using the screw tabs on a standard 4″ ceiling outlet box. The instructions did not say what to do with the large translucent “rubber band” that came with the unit. I figured it out – you use the “rubber band” to cover the end of the fixture that contacts the ceiling to keep the edge of the fixture protected from contact and presumably to create a small seal. The “rubber band” was easy enough to put on the end as it has a slight groove and you just press it on. The real trick was keeping the rubber band on while moving the fixture around during installation. I had to stop several times in the process and re-install the “rubber band” so that once the fixture was mounted and i was tightening the screws that the “rubber band was smooth and properly in place on the edge. This was the worst part of the installation – so, all in all, pretty straight-forward if you know how to replace a typical ceiling fixture.Once in place the rubber “band” created a nice seal for the fixture against my textured ceiling. The light output is at least triple that of my old fixture which had a 15w Edison CFL bulb. The Hamilton Hills fixture provides brighter, more evenly distributed light, and consumes much less energy. The installation instructions also didn’t include any directions for removing the diffuser lens, but after a couple of minutes I figured out you gently press the lens up a little and twist it. There are 3 small pins or nubs round the edge of the flush mount lens and it just sort of screws on and off. The lens is plastic and I wasn’t sure I would like that as I’d have referred a glass one, but now that it’s installed the plastic looks fine and I love the light put put and the general appearance of the fixture, so I’m okay with it being plastic.Frankly, I’ve been surprised at how much a simple inexpensive ceiling fixture like this could make in my bathroom. There are multiple much more expensive fixtures in the bathroom – four 23w LED down lights above the sink/counter and two wall mounted LED sconces with a total of 6 15w LED bulbs in them so this fixture is really not necessary. It is just the one fixture closest to the shower. I never used the old fixture it cast shadows and although it had an “instant on” bulb, like most CFL units, it too it a few minutes to “warm up” in order to provide full light. This Hamilton Hills fixture is truly instant on, no shadows, and much brighter light. I actually like having it on and am for the first time using this fixture. I had no idea how much it would transform my bathroom when I ordered it.Needless to say, I love it. I hope it’s durability measures up to it’s delivery on all my original objectives. For such a cheap fixture Hamilton Hills has really exceeded my expectations. Before buying this fixture I considered multiple similar units from many sources and manufacturers, some were more than 5 times as expensive – price wasn’t a consideration (within reason of course), and I hesitated on buying this unit because it was relatively speaking cheap; however, one week in I’m delighted with the end result.

Simple, Sleek and Effective
Super easy to install. I have lower ceilings so I wanted a slim light that could actually light up the room. These are perfect and are brighter than all of the other lights in my house; however, I can adjust the brightness through the app, verbally with Alexa or through the Alexa app, which is super nice. No more having to lug myself down stairs to turn off the lights.I had an issue with connecting to Alexa where she couldn’t identify the lights after install (the Hamilton Hills app identified and worked fine but I couldn’t control with Alexa). I point this out because others described a similar issue. I reached out to Hamilton Hills and they were super responsive and researched the problem. They quickly resolved the matter and I was informed their IT department fixed the connectivity issue. I was hesitant to believe as I did nothing on my end but when I tried to connect again, Alexa identified the lights immediately and I can now control with Alexa. If you purchase this light and have the same issue, make sure to email them and they should be able to resolve the problem.I’m changing all my lights to be smart lights so I’ll be purchasing more of these soon as well as their other lights for different rooms.

Very nice LED ceiling lights!
Once these lights are installed you will very much like them. As shown in picture 1, the 12 inch model gives off great light and it has a very low profile, which is especially nice if you have low ceilings. I give these lights 5+ for performance and appearance, and 3+ for ease of installation. Here are a few time-saving installation tips that you will not find in the Hamilton Hills directions:1) To install this light fixture you will first have to remove the translucent âlensâ that covers the LED assembly. To do this, stick two pieces of wide masking tape along the outer edge of the lens, as shown in picture 2. To remove the lens, pull the ends of the tape in a counterclockwise direction until the lens pops out. Reverse the process to reinstall the lens after the fixture has been mounted.2) The mounting holes in the LED assembly are 3 ½ inches apart, which is perfect for an octagonal junction box in the ceiling. If you have a rectangular junction box, the screw holes at the ends of the box are only 3 ¼ inches apart. For rectangular junction boxes, I recommend cutting a 2 x 1 inch piece of blue plastic from an electrical cover plate, and attaching it to the drywall next to one of the short junction-box sides with construction adhesive. After the adhesive has dried, tap a hole in the plastic for your mounting screw so that the hole is 3 ½ inches from the screw hole in the opposite short side of the junction box. (I used 1 ¼ inch drywall screws for mounting.) Alternatively, you can use a metal bracket like the one in picture 3, but the screws provided with the installation kit will then have to be cut, the fixture may not fit tightly against the ceiling (depending on the bracket design), and the bracket should be grounded.3) The installation kit includes a large silicon O-ring that is needed for wet locations, like shower stalls. The O-ring should also be used for dry locations if you want to avoid gaps between the fixture and the ceiling, as shown in picture 4. To keep the O-ring in place while you wire the fixture into the junction box, use 4 to 6 narrow pieces of masking tape looped over the O-ring and stuck to the inside and outside of the fixture, as shown in picture 5. After the fixture is installed you can easily extract the tape by grabbing the tape on the outside and pulling it away from the fixture; masking tape does not stick to silicon.
