Broke once, but has been good since
Update: I didnât realize I needed a gateway which is a separate item to purchase that connects the lock to your phone through Wi-Fi. This will change everything. That allows you to do everything from a distance. That was a misunderstanding in my part, theirs is only $26 and is a must for Airbnb owners. Knowing this I would definitely recommend it as everything else has been good. It did break once, but we fixed it and it has been great ever since.Customer service has also been great in helping me with the things I need.Old review: We use it for our AirBnb, it has some great features, but there are definitely some cons as well.Pros: I like how I can assign a timed passcode to someone and have it expire when I want it to.-the buttons are nice and easy to touch and are very responsive.-the app with the lock is relatively easy to useCons: The lock broke one time after only having it for about a month stranding our guests outside.-The timed passcodes that are generated are so long requiring guests to put in an 8 digit code to get in. It would be nice to be able to give them a 4 digit code instead.-It just seems like every once in a while it doesn’t work even after generating a new one or giving our personal passcode to them leaving our guests stranded outside. For AirBnb hosts, I don’t know if i can recommend it becasue of the occassional headaches it gives us while we are away. It isn’t horrible, but you have to leave emergency keys hidden somewhere for guests. There may be other locks that are a little more reliable, I haven’t done the research, if you can’t find any others then this works. I wouldn’t buy it again, but it’s good enough to not need to change it out with another one if that makes sense.

A Great Lock Set
I purchased this lock set and installed it in about 45 minutes. I have to say I am very pleased with the product and the installation. The lock set is very well made and the various options to unlock or lock the door is a very big bonus. To have keys, Key pad, app, Chip or fingerprint is great. Installations was simple and the instructions were easy to follow. I would definitely purchase this item again.

*Edited* Difficult to install, didn’t immediately work correctly
6/8/23 – I am editing this review. Since installing a year ago, we have not had any issues with the lock. Additionally, the manufacturer reached out to me after my review posted and wanted more information, and has since updated their design. I would recommend.I bought this lock for our new home that we just moved into. I figured I would get with the times, and after reading the reviews it seemed like it would be an easy lock to install. I was very wrong – it literally took my boyfriend all day to install this lock. What the reviews didn’t tell me is that if you have a wood door, it is MUCH easier than a metal door. We had the old typical deadbolt previously and the hole was nowhere near the size needed for this lock. He had to not only adjust the hole in the door, but also in the door frame. They didn’t align well, he had to keep going to the store for parts… it was a literal nightmare and at one point we were too far in to turn around so he had to keep going. He has installed many, many things before and it wasn’t due to his lack of ability, it was simply the design and the metal door. After install, we were glad to finally have it done. I downloaded the app, it synced right up. But then… when I pressed ‘lock’ it actually UNlocked the door, and vice versa. Pulled back out the instructions… read that there is a toggle inside that needs set to left or right, depending on hinges, and if that isn’t right then the lock will do the opposite of what it should. The hinges are on the left, my boyfriend had set it to the left. Just to see if it would work, off went the cover again, he switched the toggle switch to the right, replaced the cover. Tried it again… still reverse of what it should be. I noticed in the app that you can select in there where the hinges are, so I selected left but it kept ‘failing’ and wasn’t able to complete that in the app. We gave up for the night.Next day, contacted customer support. The very foreign person suggested that I go into the app, into a section that DOESN’T EXIST, to make an adjustment. I told her that I didn’t have that option, she told me to hold. During the hold, I went back into the section of the app that allows you to select your hinge side. This time, it allowed me to sync it to the left. I went and tried the door…. and it worked. FINALLY. Funny thing is, the toggle switch inside is still set to ‘right.’ So I don’t know, but at least it works now.I haven’t had it long enough to give any feedback on the longevity of the lock and if it continues to work. I am hoping that it does. At this point, I would not purchase this lock again.

Defective latch mechanism for handle
Got the whole door together and working. Work the handle to open the door from the inside and feel something slip. Door now wonât open from the inside but still will from the outside. Weird. Take the whole mechanism apart, getting it working again. 10 or so pulls later, fails again. Take it all apart and put it together till I finally see the problem. If you see in the photo, inside that gap is the slider plate for the latch. There are 2 pins inside the mechanism that push that plate back sliding the latch. The one for the outside handle is smack in the middle. The one for the inside handle is at the bottom. If you notice, the place where the pins push is on the left side of the photo. Youâll see the corner is rounded and there is a gap. What was happening, in about 1 in 10 tries, the pin slides round that corner between the slider and wall of the mechanism, then gets stuck on the other side. Now, with the pin stuck, youâre, for all intents and purposes, locked in your house. The handle wonât work, the latch is stuck because the pin that works the mechanism is out of place, and you canât get out unless someone opens it from the outside or you take it apart.Hoping for everyone who bought this door knob that itâs just a defect with the one I got and not a design defect. Cause god forbid if you need to get out your house in an emergency and have this mechanism fail on you, youâre stuck inside or climbing out a window.

The Hornbill Smart Deadbolt Lock with Handle Set strikes an impressive balance between innovation and functionality, all while keeping your wallet happy at around $150. In the world of smart locks, that’s refreshingly reasonable for what you get.Let’s talk looks first. The oil-rubbed bronze finish adds a touch of classic elegance that works with most door styles. It’s not trying too hard to look “techy” â instead, it gives off that timeless door hardware vibe while hiding its smart features behind a sleek exterior. The real magic happens with its versatility. This lock is like the Swiss Army knife of door security, offering 10 different ways to get in, including a smartphone app, keypad codes, IC cards, and good old-fashioned keys. The anti-peep password feature is particularly clever â you can add random numbers before or after your code to fool any nosy onlookers.Installation is surprisingly straightforward. You can get it done in about 30 minutes with basic tools, and the included instructions are actually helpful (a rare feat in the DIY world). The lock is built to last too, with testing showing it works fine in temperatures from -4°F to 158°F â perfect for whatever weather throws your way.The app interface is intuitive, letting you lock and unlock with a tap, set temporary codes for visitors, and check your door’s status. The auto-lock feature is a godsend for the forgetful among us, automatically securing the door after a preset time. And if you’re into smart home integration, it plays nice with Alexa and Google Home (though you’ll need a separate gateway). There are a few minor quirks â like most smart locks, the app can occasionally be finicky with Bluetooth connectivity. But the physical keypad and traditional key backup mean you’re never locked out, even if your phone dies. For the price point, the Hornbill delivers exceptional value. It offers the security features of premium smart locks at a more accessible price tag, without compromising on build quality or functionality. If you’re looking to dip your toes into smart home security without diving too deep into your savings, this lock hits the sweet spot of features, reliability, and affordability.

I bought this lock recently and was quite surprised at how well it is made. Installation was surprisingly easy as well but you do need to drill a hole in your door. They include a template in the box and the instructions are very easy to follow, also, they provide a drill bit. My locks battery life is still at 100% And it uses replaceable double A’s or rechargeable double A’s depending on what your preference is. I would also like to add that Hornbill has amazing customer service and if you have any problems do not hesitate to contact them!

I was looking to get a new keypad lock for our garage access door. We had been using one for a while now, but it had started to develop a glitch whereby the pad would throw up an error even though it locks and unlocks fine. We think itâs the motor for the lock that is about to go out, and therefore before that happens we decided to change it first.First impressions are that the pieces in the set are good quality. Everything feels very robust and sturdy. The pieces are made of metal, and the silver anodized finish looks decent. The kit comes with handle replacements, but the designs of them are vastly different. One features a somewhat sleek appearance in which the plates and handles are rounded and chamfered. The other side is much more angular. The plate itself is a square, and the handle is a flat bar design. It should really be one or the other, as currently itâs so conflicting in their appearance. The kit comes with all the templates for installation, but we opted against doing so. Mainly because I donât really like how it looks, but also because the existing door still has old door knobs, and we didnât really want to go through the effort of drilling a new hole to install these handles.Once the lock is installed, everything is set up through their app. The lock connects via bluetooth, and from there, I was able to set passcodes and auto lock intervals. This is much easier to use and set up compared to our old lock, where everything was set via input on the keypad. We had to keep the instructions nearby because we wouldnât remember how to set up things. Here, the app is very easy to navigate and use. It is just so much easier this way. With the app, you can also lock and unlock the door directly. Though in this particular model, it is done via bluetooth. It works fine, but if you are within bluetooth range, using a passcode just feels like the simpler option. Wifi remote access would have been the best thing to have, but it is not included in this kit.Overall this is a decent set. The pieces are well made, and having an app to control and set codes is a nice feature. It remains to be seen how durable the hardware is, but as of right now, I will give this product four stars.
