Our History
The incredible background story for our company begins over 50 years ago with the current owner’s grandfather, Wayne Niewold. Wayne is the original inventor of Power Planter augers. Still, long before Power Planter came about, he started a successful and growing business called Hydra Fold Auger. Since these large augers were so successful within the farming industry, the idea for Power Planter augers was born.
Our Company Today
Power Planter is now operated by the original owner’s grandson, Greg Niewold. Greg took over in 2013 and has spurred significant company growth while expanding the reach of Power Planter to serve customers across the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, and more. Today, we manufacture and sell more than ten different sizes and models of durably crafted augers.

This drill bit auger for planting is perfect for property owners, DIYers, gardeners, and people who love working in the garden or yard.
ABOUT US: Power Planter is a third-generation, family-owned auger manufacturer that started three decades ago in rural Illinois and is still located there. The centennial farm where our company began making augers is a sixth-generation family-run farm. Make planting flowers so much easier!
I am thrilled with the Power Planter DIY Guru Garden Auger! This 3″x12″ drill bit hole digger has revolutionized the way I tackle gardening tasks. If you’re a gardener or landscaper, this tool is an absolute must-have.First and foremost, let’s talk about efficiency. This auger makes digging holes an absolute breeze. Whether I’m planting bulbs, installing fence posts, or creating holes for shrubs, the Power Planter gets the job done in a fraction of the time it would take with traditional methods. The 3-inch diameter is perfect for a wide range of tasks. It effortlessly cuts through soil, even in tough or compacted areas. The depth of 12 inches is ideal for most planting needs, providing ample room for roots to grow and thrive. One of the standout features is the 3/8″ non-slip hex drive. This ensures a secure connection to my drill, giving me confidence that the auger will stay in place during use. The hex drive design is also excellent for preventing slipping, even in dense or rocky soil. The build quality of the Power Planter is outstanding. It’s sturdy and durable, built to withstand the rigors of regular use in the garden. The construction is solid, and the auger bit is sharp and efficient, making quick work of any digging task.Additionally, the versatility of this tool is impressive. Not only is it great for digging holes, but it also serves as a fantastic bulb planter. I’ve used it to effortlessly create perfect holes for bulbs, ensuring they’re planted at the ideal depth for optimal growth. In conclusion, the Power Planter DIY Guru Garden Auger is a gardener’s best friend. It’s efficient, versatile, and built to last. Sturdy… works like a charm!
I bought this auger bit to drill holes for posts for a bird netting cage.I used an electric drill for my first attempt last week. The auger performed beautifully, but the drill was a little rough on my arthritic hands, even on a low speed.Today I attached the bit to a hand drill, and drilled the hole in about the same amount of time. Much easier to control. The bit is strong and sturdy and dug through the soil beautifully. It might seem expensive, but it’s put together to last and well worth every penny. One caution. Make sure you wash and dry the bit after you use it. I let it air dry in my slightly damp basement, and it had a little bit of surface rust where the finish had worn off an edge.Definitely a good tool to have around the yard.

rocky ground
so far i have used it successfully to dig up some holes in the ground, I have many roots and small rocks in the ground and this auger bit is doing a great job.the power drill I am using with it, is a Hilti one. the strongest and most expensive drills out there so I don’t sure how this bit will work with the regular drills people are using but with low speed and small pats on the trigger there were zero problems digging up the ground.i am planing to search for a smaller diameter bit of a same kind

It works on hard soil, but you have to work, too!
Bottom line: get this auger bit …it works well, but be prepared if you’ve got hard ground. I have very hard soil (in SoCal, suburb of Los Angeles) where my hill was dry, dirt compacted tough, and seemingly all the soil in my valley is heavy with minerals. Factor in our low annual rainfall and you have seriously hard soil here (if it has not been worked/tilled beforehand). I had to get 12″ diam x 12″ deep holes for rose bushes into this hard dirt, and on a hill which made it even more difficult for me. I was skeptical because of my terrain, but this auger bit worked. I had to go slow, (slow drill speed as well not too much downward pressure), and it bit into the ground slowly, but surely. And with particularly hard ground as I have, go in at angles so the bit doesn’t have to bite squarely into the ground, which helps it chomp little by little, which makes your progress much better. My particular case was stubborn, took lots of muscling, sweat, and time, but it worked! BTW, I was also using a regular ol’ Ryobi 18v brushless drill which worked like a champ under quite a bit of continuous use, and though each battery did last a good long time, I still had to replace it because my stinkin ground was so tough! I highly recommend you check the chuck every few minutes, use slow speed, and adjust the clutch carefully for your comfort and safety. This clutch thing is important because if you’ve got a drill with good torque (this Ryobi does), and the bit catches and stops, that drill will torque your wrists which will hurt you if you’re not ready for it. I do have strong hands/arms but still decided to use the clutch (set tight with just a bit of release) simply to avoid tweaking my wrists. My only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is I wish the tip of the bit were sharper to facilitate “bite” into hard earth. OK, so all that was for brutally tough ground. I tried this auger bit on tilled soil and it is perfect …no issue whatsoever; you’ll breeze through it so for soft-medium hard dirt, I’d give this bit a 5 for sure.

I am an advocate for the right tool for the job makes for an easy and professional finish to a task. What a pleasure to use this tool. It makes turning the flower beds so easy. Instead of just scraping the surface and ending up in agony with back, wrist and shoulder pain added to hand blisters after an all day session, using the Power Planter 312 has shortened the task to a few hours and I now have soil well tilled to a depth of about a foot.Digging a hole to plant a rose bush took 2 minutes, the 1st minute to dig the hole and the rest of the time to remove the soil and plant the bush. Better still, no blood sweat or tears. Fantastic tool.My only regret is that the information about this tool didn’t cross my path earlier.

must have for bulb planting

This is absolutely flipping amazing!! I canât do it enough justice! Iâm just on the last run of planting 3500 bulbs for a job and without this i wouldâve been in some major bulb planting financial disaster! With this I can dig a 300mm deep hole in seconds (for alliums in case your wondering what would require such a deep hole!) and itâs big enough to put my whole hand and bulb down into the hole to plant it the right way up and settle it into position. I have even turned over and fluffed up whole planting flower beds, nothing more than a couple of m2 yet but it is incredible! One moment a compacted bit of soil then seconds later itâs super fluffed and soft and ready to plant.. if youâre at all interested you should definitely buy one, you canât help but be impressed!
