For the longest time I just had a cheap particleboard self-assembled bookshelf from Walmart and I finally decided I wanted to upgrade to something a little better quality. I’ve had a Sauder TV cabinet for a while so I was familiar with the brand. It’s all still technically particleboard too, but it’s a lot thicker and sturdier than what I had before. This bookshelf is a little shorter but quite a bit wider than my old shelf and I can actually fit ALL my books on it, with a little space left over (must mean I need more books, right?). The “estate black” isn’t QUITE true black (there are streaks of dark brown through it) but in context it definitely looks black. The shelf itself was easy to assemble in terms of having clear instructions, and I enjoy some of the humor included in Sauder’s instruction booklets, but the pieces are kind of heavy and cumbersome and if you’re assembling it yourself you end up needing to find other objects to use for support. There was one place on my shelf where some of the particleboard was slightly broken so I had to be really careful while putting a couple of pieces together, but I think I got it to where I won’t have any future problems. Overall the shelf seems quite sturdy and has a great capacity. I’m pleased with the quality and have also purchased the matching 3-shelf versionâthe two look great side by side and the shelves even line up with each other.

Quality Shelf for a Great Price
This shelf took me about 2 hours to assemble. I am a little inept when it comes to assembling things so this should take a normal person about 1-1.5 hours. Just make sure you read the directions and follow the steps and don’t be afraid to look ahead in case you have something backwards. I was able to put it together by myself as well but a second person can come in handy but I would say is not necessary. II think the product looks fantastic and holds all of my items. The shelves are quite deep and the dimensions are as listed on Amazon. I have a mix of statues, books, movies, and video games and the shelf is sturdy and safe. There is a wall strap as well if you’re worried about it tilting.

Sturdy, but expensive
For a pressboard cabinet, this was kind of pricey. But easy to install (with a bit of experience), is solid once put together and looks decent enough. Compared to what else is out there, I suppose I would purchase this again if I needed it. Its better than most – just seems pricey for a bookshelf that is not solid wood.

Solid bookshelf
Bought this to match two other bookcases. The case is well made and quite substantial. The instructions are IN ENGLISH and obviously written by someone stateside. (The instructions are actually funny)Only one minor issue, the back panel seems a little thin. Itâs no different than my earlier bookcases, but stillâ¦. However, you donât see the back panel once books are loaded onto the shelf anyway.Bottom line: I highly recommend this product

This is a really nice bookcase!
I’ve watching these bookcases for some time and finally purchased two of these. I’ve had many bookcases of this type by other manufacturers and have never been very impressed with quality. This bookcase made by Sauder is definitely a step up from the others. I’m very impressed with the quality and look. It took about two hours to assemble by myself. It could have been much shorter but I’m not very good with assembly and also wanted to make sure everything was done 100% perfect so there would be no regrets 🙂 Anyway, if the price is good, I highly recommend you choose this product. I will be watching for a good deal on the matching desk.

This bookshelf is one of the worst designed bookcases I’ve ever seen.
The Assembly was simple and well thought out, but the material is substandard and easily broken. The weakness of the material makes it very difficult to move. In just picking the bookcase up to move it from the assembly area the top half of the bookcase came off and the part that broke is hidden so it cannot be repaired, as the locking mechanism(s) fully hidden. I would not purchase this piece of junk. The only good thing about the bookcase is that it looks good. I have purchased numerous items off Amazon, but this is by far the worst piece of junk I’ve purchased.
