Review 1: Understand your lock type
**6 mo. Update: It’s great! Battery life, 6 mo solid–multiple daily uses; still working, but noticed slight slowdown in lock rotation. As I wrote previously, this is one of the benefits of the z-wave–no wifi draining the batteries. Really convenient not having to carry extra keys, allows us to give access to house cleaners and room renter – get notifications of who’s coming in. Connects to Ring perfectly for easy control.I’ll update this review after a month or so. Finished installing yesterday – relatively easy to do and setup. Working well – as expected.I wanted to address a *major* problem with a lot of reviews on this lock (and others): many people are not doing the research they need to and are misunderstanding smartlock types and what they actually need/want. Some are mis-answering questions and dinging perfectly good locks because they are expecting it to do something it wasn’t designed to do. You have to understand these options when looking at the *type* of smartlock and also how a particular brand (Schalge, Kwikset) implements that type. I’ll start with lock types and then discuss Schlage’s locks.Smart Lock Types: Bluetooth, Z-Wave, Zigby, Wifi. (Start with this for primer comparison: https://www.safety.com/z-wave/)Bluetooth are the cheapest locktypes and often the least expandable in terms of integration to smarthubs, automation.Z-wave and Zigby – two different versions of the same type of transmitting technology; Z-wave operates at a lower MHz (900) that won’t interfere with wifi (2.4); Zigby operates at 2.4, so it can experience some wifi bandwidth competition – for the typical home, this is not a deal-breaker. Z-wave can also transmit somewhat farther, but both can use plug-in nodes that will increase range.NOTE 1: BOTH require a Smarthub: Ring, Wink, Smarthings (being discontinued, I hear – research it), Google, etc. These locks typically do *not* have a dedicated app, as they are integrating into your smarthub. Also, almost all of these types of locks integrate with Alexa for additional functionality. Alexa can be conisdered a smarthub on its own, but most often tends to be integrated into other proprietary apps and other hubs. This is, honestly, a confusing aspect of smarthomes – the market is in fierce competition, and most are choosing to “cooperate” with multiple layers of integration between hubs and apps. I don’t fully understand all of it, as the market is still settling.NOTE 2: One of the most important *other* benefits of Z-wave and Zigby is power. All smartlocks (for now) use batteries. Z-wave and Zigby offload the power drain of communication and bandwidth to the Hub, which relies on wifi and is AC powered. This allows the batteries to be mostly dedicated to minuscule radio transmission and powering the deadbolt. The batteries (usually 4 AAs) on these locks can last from 1-2 years, depending – seems like closer to a year.Wifi – The lock communicates directly with your home wifi network: 1) allows fastest possible speeds – not really needed for a lock action; 2) allows direct app control; 3) does *not* require a smarthub; 4) large power requirements – the built-in wifi takes a lot of power – battery life is typically 2-6 months. Integration with smarthubs and Alexa is possible and common, but not required.Schlage locks:Connect – *two* types: Z-wave – Ring, Wink, Google, etc., does *not* work with Apple; Zigby – Amazon Cloud-camEncode – wifi type; battery life is challenging; connects directly with proprietary app; can connect to Ring, Alexa through sidedoor connections. If you end up connecting to smarthub, why not just get Connect type?Sense – bluetooth; uses proprietary app; in order to connect to Apple/iOS, requires wifi adaptor – more expense. Basically, this seems targeted at people who live in the Apple Homeconnect ecosystem.
Wonderful lock! Worth every penny –
Works great
The locks are amazing. I got two for my house. The installation was super easy and the instructions were very detailed. The only show I had was with programming but once I downloaded the app, it walks you through step-by-step so it was super easy.

Nearly a year later, we’re happy.
We installed these on all of our exterior doors ten months ago, and these locks are as-advertised. The locking mechanism is smooth and reliable, and they look good as well. The Z-Wave integration was a bit finicky and I often encounter problems when remotely setting new user codes, but by and large these have been a non-event.All three locks are on the original batteries ten months later (more on this below), and only the oft-used front door has dropped below 80% battery. Our home automations cycle these locks regularly, and we’ve never had issues with lost connection or failed network commands. Some cons: Adjustment and proper “tuning” of the door is absolutely critical. If the placement of the deadbolt is not absolutely perfect, you will be miserable — the motor is not strong and it will eat through the battery in mere days. This was my initial experience before I educated myself on the experiences of others. I can absolutely confirm that adjustment and clearance must be correct; any significant contact with the deadbolt striker during mechanism movement will cause problems. Adjust the position of the closed door at-rest during the installation, and take the time to get it right, and you’ll be happy.Separately; the plastic on the keypad face is faring poorly in direct sun. At this rate, the plastic face will require replacement next year; it is already degrading and flaking around the edges. That’s normal in my desert southwest environment, though disappointing.Overall , we’ve been very happy with this purchase. Once we had it set up properly, they have worked every time, reliably, and without fuss or tinkering. The best measure of a smart-home integration success relates to how much time you spend supporting your tech. I’ve spent virtually none (remote user code changes via z-wave network excepting). It just works.

Schlage Connect: More Like Schlage Regret
The Schlage Connect Smart Lock is a complete disappointment. The cast zinc housing has visible porosity, surface defects, and rough edgesâproof that Schlage is cutting corners on build quality. For a device meant to secure my home, itâs inexcusable for it to feel this cheap and poorly made.I purchased this lock based on glowing reviews, but itâs clear Schlageâs money went into aggressive sponsorships and marketing instead of product quality. Theyâd be better off investing in their engineering and manufacturing. While the programming interface is straightforward, the lock itself is a disaster. It took several tries for the configuration to stick, and even then, some features never worked. The alarm sensitivity was ridiculously high, even on the lowest setting, and the button-lock function failed completely. The app? Uselessâno debugging, just a flashing red light to remind me this thing was a waste of time and money. This experience has permanently soured me on Schlage. Iâve already replaced it with a competitorâs product thatâs leagues better. Schlage will get nothing but adamant negative feedback from me to anyone considering their smart locks. Donât make the same mistake I did.

My experience is way better than these 1-star reviews. For me this model of schlage DOES pair up with my Ring Alarm Base Station properly. Took a few minutes to sync and was visible on the Ring APP. I also had instant abilty to lock and unlock via Alexa on my echo 8. Oh and yes I’m in Canada. One thing other reviews haven’t mentioned, this could have something to do with it but a complete guess. Alexa Guard Plus from what I remember only currently works in the USA not for a Canadian Address. I did switch my home address over to a US Address which activated Alexa Guard and switched it back later. I haven’t lost the functionality just checked the alexa app it’s still there and logging alarm events. I never went back to use the features like activity sounds with sirens or dog barking sounds or away lighting. Not something I was interested in least not yet. MAYBE that’s why alexa allows me to lock and unlock this Schlage unit?? Just something for those out there to trouble shoot if they don’t have success with other suggestions. I didn’t configure or use a schalge skill or another app with alexa than ring which was already connected.Much like other reviews suggest I made sure that the name of the door lock didn’t conflict with other devices attached to my alexa or attached to my ring alarm base or lights or speakers or whatever.I also haven’t seen anyone mention how this lock works with the Ring Alarm System / Base. I’m very happy that I can lock and unlock and see status of the lock in the ring app on the dashboard. My family painfully leaves this particular door open all the time and I’m the warden walking the halls at night locking the place up. I didn’t know for SURE that i could program the lock to disarm the alarm mode once the correct keycode is entered and door unlocks. That’s a good feature one less thing to worry about. Makes it easier for the cleaners and the kids coming home from school for example. If you’re using the ring alarm app, once the lock is connected it synced the alarm codes over to the door lock. If there are users setup it syncs which is very cool. Saves programming and matches the alarm so there aren’t two numbers to remember. I assume as you add new users it syncs to the door.I also swear the door auto-locked at one point which I’m not sure yet how I feel about that. I read somewhere it is a feature and you can disable that if I’m not crazy and it actually did auto-lock. I opened the lock and watched it like a toaster and it never auto locked again. One of the kids I haven’t yet given a door code / alarm code he’s too little. Only scenario I can think of is if he went outside, it auto locks he has no abilty to get back in. He’s not exactly running around by himself but it could present an issue if he locks himself out. I will figure out how to disable if it really works that way or just deal with it.Something to note, once it was installed it wasn’t obvious to me at least how to lock the door from the outside. I upgraded from a weiser electronic keypad that had the plastic buttons and a LOCK button. So I thought you had to key the code in to lock and unlock. Instructions didn’t say otherwise least I couldn’t find it. Upgrading from weiser where there was an easy one button lock function this was going to suck if we had to punch a keycode felt like a let down. I googled it and found an install video where a guy hit the schalge logo to LOCK. JACKPOT locks one button logo on the keypad.Install wasn’t too bad but I did have a bit of a moment where I thought it wasn’t going to work. The deadlatch (I think it’s called) the part that goes into the door had the plate which rests on the side of the door and the deadbolt comes out of. I couldn’t see any obvious way to remove it without prying it off and my doors all have the cylinder hole not the plate with screws. So I broke down and read the instructions no mention. I saw the QR code and watched the install video and it showed how to remove it (by prying a screwdriver into it) and put the cylider cap piece on. After rummaging through the parts plastic bag I could see it. So It wasn’t totally obvious, one mention in the paper instructions could have saved me grief and I could see someone giving up and returning if they didn’t take the time. One final note, the inside door latch is up when unlocked, and left to right when closed. It drives me CRAZY that our newer house with Weiser locks it’s the opposite way. I’m used to the common sense of plumbing or gas if the handle is across the pipe it’s shut off. I’ve not been able to figure out how to convert existing weiser locks to the same orientation so I might move to schalge. Maybe they have a patent or something its just a small thing that I prefer and bothers me.Overall happy with the upgrade, the quality, the install. Got some bonus features mentioned above that hadn’t completely realized and was a win. I wish I could rekey the lock easy like the weiser locks do, but I’ve never carried a key to my house since these were installed so it might not really matter.

Si lo que buscas son funcionalidades, de códigos de acceso para invitados, notificaciones, ESTA NO ES UNA OPCION, no tiene esa función. OJO no todas son iguales. Las terminaciones ZP en su modelo, no tienen estas funciones.

I don’t believe the z-wave radio on this device is tuned to Australian frequencies. I was not able to pair to home assistant at all, under any conditions. All manuals are USA/CAN, so I’d be very surprised if it was an Australian z-wave radio. Shame!
