This is for a furnished rental property.I need the features of setting up dedicated codes and locking the doors remotely. Excellent product and setup was extremely easy. No need to hire a locksmith; I used my previous holes on my lock. This is my second lock with this company. I recommend it. They are pricey. I also like the fact that the codes remain in the lock even if you loose wifi. There is also the backup key.I use KIWI masterlock system for my non furnished properties that dont need remote capabilities.

We needed to replace the deadbolt on one of our doors so we decided to upgrade to a Smart Deadbolt. Schlage has always been a reliable brand, so I decided to go with this model. It has worked flawlessly for us. I’ve had some experience with other brands and they are just frustrating to use; not the case with this model. I highly recommend.

I own several of these locks and the previous versions have worked well and been easy to install. For the one I just purchased, however, it seems like they redesigned the installation hardware… and not in a good way. There are two short skinny little bolts that are meant to attach the inside piece of the lock to the door plate. Schlage seems to have decided to make these bolts as skinny and short as possible. And the attachment receptacle that they’re supposed to thread into is equally skinny, of course, and you can’t see it when installing. To add to the fun, the bolts are just slightly too short to actually thread properly into the door plate. After thirty minutes of trying and failing to get these little things to attach, you’ll be left with the dilemma of deciding to 1) remove the almost-installed lock and put your old one back in; 2) try and call someone somewhere at customer support to try and explain this situation and get proper hardware which may arrive someday or not; or 3) go to Home Depot and try to purchase bolts that actually work…. none of these ideal for a lock that you just spent $300 on.

What a fantastic lock! I’ve been in the market for a few weeks reviewing every smart lock and brand on the market. My final two choices were both Schlage. WiFi Encode & Connect models. I opted out of the Sense model because it’s Bluetooth only. On the other hand the Connect models use Zigbee and Zwave technology. Therefor I could essentially use it to connect to Alexa. But only the ZIGBEE model supports Amazon.. Zwave is supported by Google and many others.. But you can use a Connect model with Zwave with Alexa if you are are connected to a hub such as wink. Since the majority of my smart home is already connected with products that use Zigbee I didn’t want to have to purchase a hub for just to use one product. I went with the Encode for its WiFi capability. It’s more reliable to me. Also the encode is rated “A” for security durability, the Connect is rated “B” which is still very good. The Encode is a bit smaller and more compact compared to the Connect. The design is overall more Elegant. The Encode does not have the door chime so you know when it opens and closes. The Connect does have that feature. I honestly would’ve like to of had that feature. Provides me with a sense of security with having small kiddos. Both have the alarm mode with sensitivity you can select if forced entry occurs. As far as the battery life goes I’m not to sure yet. I’ve read the Encode lasts 6-8 weeks because of the WiFi. The Connect I’ve heard can last up to a year. So I guess we will see.. It does use 4AA batteries and both have a low battery alarm. So either way as long as the smart lock does it’s job, I don’t mind replacing batteries. Schlage made it simple to replace them. Setting up and install is a breeze even if you aren’t handy or techie. Plenty of videos on how to do it.. Overall in my opinion the Encode is the way to go. It’s only $50 more over the Connect and I think you get more. Down the road you’ll forget about that extra fifty dollars because like me you’ll definitely pleased and happy with the purchase.

I recommend setting up your lock closer to your wifi router before install. One issue I had was the signal was breaking up initially and connection was lost in the middle of scanning the product qr code. This made the wifi flakey and I was getting a screwed up signal and couldnt save changes it would always fail. When I removed the lock from my phone schlage app and added it again (after a reset on the lock) I went through the scan and it completed. Once installed in the door about 35ft from the router I had no issues with signal, saving changes etc. via the schlage phone app. I had these problems because the scan of the product likely failed due to a wifi connection blip and that required me to reset the lock device, remove and add via schlage app. Doing this closer to the router guaranteed a sync. After that I had no issues with the lock. Lost about an hour and a half trying to troubleshoot.I didn’t have this issue with my first lock install. This was my second on a second door. All in all I love this technology. I get notifications on my phone. I can unlock and lock remotely. Google home can be used with it. What a convenience and you can use a physical key.My second door required a full drill out for deadbolt and I had to drill and chisel the door and frame plate areas. I used wood putty and sanded to fill the prior holes and painted the entire door. The door is antique and had a non standard locking mechanism and hole placement. Love the technology on my 100 year old solid wood door 🙂

Best lock I could ever ask for. Tracks everything, when it opens/closes, who is using the lock, battery life, putting time frames for lock codes to work…. Wouldn’t want a different lock for what I needed.

It took two days to figure it out but once we did, it has worked well.We didn’t install it – we had a new door installed and they put the lock and handle on the door for us. We haven’t used it long enough yet to be able to comment on the battery life – door was installed a week ago.
