The knife is very sharp, well balanced and a great deal for the money. I just wish products were accurately described and I am not lead on as a consumer. But I also know, you probably can’t buy an actual Damascus for this price, BUT was expecting that I had found an insane deal because of the description that literally says “REAL Damascus, 67 layers…” It is 100% etched on design and the the texture added to the blade is just to fool others who don’t know any better. Other than being completely lied to, I actually do like this knife. The price was totally fair for what I got. I am an in home personal chef and use the knife everyday, all day. It has not chipped, it stays quite sharp and does the job. I also wish it came with a sheath, as it’s hard to find one after the fact, that fits the knife perfectly. Is there a way to buy a sheath from the same company that is made for this particular knife?? If so, maybe the company will see this and reach out? If they do, I will attach a like to this review.

This knives are super nice! They are incredibly sharp. You need to be mindful when using them, if you happen to touch the blade you will be cut! Cutting vegetables is a revelation, they slice thru instead of crushing and tearing.I not an amazing or super enthusiastic cook so I’ve never felt the need to spend a lot of money on good knives. The great thing is these knives were very affordable – I paid about $100 for the set of three during prime day.The styles cover about 99% if what I do in the kitchen. They are beautiful too. The damascene lines in the blade are so cool, and the handles are seamless and solid and the end of the handle is deeply embossed with Chinese characters. Gorgeous!I watched some YouTube videos about maintenance, bought a sharp pebble sharpening stone and a blade steel. The steel is for short term maintenance, and the stone is for longer term sharpening. I’ve owned the knife for several months now, and have used the steel a couple of times, the blades are still wicked sharp!

I was not disappointed. They are very sharp straight out of the box. I have the cut on the end of my finger to prove it!The first time I sliced an onion I was cutting a couple of horizontal slices and the knife penetrated through like it was butter. The tip only just caught the end of my finger and I thought I’d avoided a cut but no. It reminded me how careful you need to be with a really sharp knife but I could get away with not being so careful with my old knives. These new knives will even catch hold of your nail if you don’t fully tuck them under and use your knuckle as a guide.The Damascus pattern makes them aesthetically pleasing and I like the handle which provides a good grip. The knives are heavy compared to my old knives but feel well balanced and robust.I actually bought 4 Shan Zu steak knives after using this set although I’ve not used them yet. They are also weighty with a similar handle although not Damascus steel, which isn’t really required for an eating knife.I’ve done a lot more food preparation since the knife block arrived because I’m no longer frustrated by poor cutting issues. Trimming meat used to be really irritating but it’s a breeze now. I’ve purchased a Whetstone to keep them sharp although there’s no sign of needing it yet.My brother has a set of Global knives but I can’t imagine how they could be much better than these Shan Zu knives to warrant the extra expense. The knife block is fine and functional so all-in-all I’m happy with my Shan Zu purchases.
