Installation Is Difficult
Ordered these to replace worn out guides on our shower door. Our door was not staying on the bottom sill anymore so it would swing inward when moved.These parts are replicas but fit perfectly. They arrived quickly but without instructions. Actually I searched high and low for videos or instructions but thereâs not much out there. Hereâs what worked for me.Start by lifting the door up so the wheels at the top come off the track. Carefully move the door to a safe place to lay it horizontally. A work bench is probably safest.Look at the placement of the existing guides. There should be one at each corner on the bottom frame. If you have the new ones youâll see that the end part opposite to the flat square part has ridges on the sides. Those ridges fit into the door frame which is why they are hard to get in and out. To get them out I unscrewed the screws right above them on the side of the door frame. Those screws connect the side of the door frame to the bottom door frame but also hold the guide in place. If your door is old you may need WD40 to get it loose.With the screws out you will need to widen the bottom frame enough to get the existing guide out. I used needle nose pliers by inserting them into the bottom frame track and opening the pliers enough to widen the track for the guide ridges to come out. You may also need a flat head screwdriver to pry it out. Take both of the old guides out before putting the new ones in. This step requires care so the door isnât permanently damaged.If youâre ready to put the new ones on then do the same steps in reverse. Use the pliers to widen the bottom frame enough for the new guide to go into the track. Both ridges need to be in the door frame for the guide to stay in. The end part with ridges should be closest to the frame corners and the opposite end with the square should face downward. After you have both guides in their tracks then you may need to use the pliers to close the bottom frame a bit from the outside by squeezing the frame together. Now put the screws back in the side of the door frames. They likely need to be angled at roughly 40 degrees downward to get into the right groove and hold the guide in place.Once the guides are installed and the screws are back then itâs time to hang the door back on the top track. Angle the door inward and lift it up to get the wheels back on the top track. Then let the door down gently and ensure itâs hanging appropriately. On the new bottom guides there are small ridges on the flat square part. Gently push them into the bottom sill. The door should now be fixed!
