Bluetooth/Wifi Smart Deadbolt Lock
Got this lock to replace an older keyless lock. We wanted to be able to control remotely and see status of lock while away from home. In addition, it tracks events with the lock so can tell when kids are unlocking it to enter the house. It installed easily in existing holes for older lock and Bluetooth worked quickly. Issues with WiFi prompted me to contact the help desk. The Helpdesk tech (Eunice) responded quickly via Messages and got it squared away and working promptly. I give a positive rating for the support and I would recommend this lock.

This deadbolt works great and if your like me and not to good on connecting it to your phone the customer service is great and will get you up and going quickly.. thanks again for your help we love it

Very feature rich “Smart Lock”, but capable of performing as a simple keyless lock, as well
This Hornbill Keyless Entry Door Lock replaced a Schlage Touch Keyless Touchscreen Electronic Deadbolt Lock which was unreliable almost from the beginning.The physical installation is pretty straightforward if you read and follow the directions step by step without assuming anything.The configuration, using the app, is much more complicated because of the numerous “smart lock” capabilities of this product and the various options provided. I was just looking for a simple replacement for the very simple, but unreliable Schlage lock, so this review won’t go into all of the advanced “smart” features.The first thing in the configuration (programming, if you will) of the lock is to download the app. Here is where I encountered the first stumbling block. I searched the Google Play Store as instructed in the manual, but there were two apps named “Smart Life” and neither one was produced by Hornbill. However, in searching through the manual looking for something that indicated which app was the right one, I found, inside the front cover of the manual, a QR code that presumably would have gotten me to the right app. However, for my purposes at the moment, I noticed that in the center of the QR code was an app icon that matched the icon on one of the two apps on the Play Store.I downloaded that app and proceeded with the configuration. As is the case with many apps, they change over time and no longer match the screen images shown in their respective instruction manuals. That was the case here, so be prepared for a little exploration to find the menu item you need. The searching around was somewhat time-consuming, but I eventually, through some trial and error, found what I needed.The next issue is determining what features/options you want or need. For the most part, these features are just feature names with little, or no, explanation about what they do and what additional requirements are needed to use them. E.g. Remote Lock (it requires a connection to some undefined “gateway”); Double Locking (still not sure, so didn’t specify); Setting Fingerprint (my phone has a fingerprint sensor, so I assumed that was what I was to touch when the app instructed me to touch the fingerprint sensor. It isn’t. Way back on page 2 is an image with a label “Fingerprint Sensor” pointing to the button in the middle of the number pad…which I discovered while writing this review. The image on the Amazon product page shows a fingerprint image on that button. There is none on the real device and none on the image shown at the point the instructions are being given, which would have helped a lot.)I also struggled a lot with trying to lock and unlock the device via the app. Pressing the Lock and Unlock icons does not work. The instructions do state, though not too clearly, that you slide the button in the middle towards the lock or unlock icon to achieve the desired action. Again, very close, continual reading of the instructions is essential to minimizing frustration during the installation. A YouTube video would be extremely beneficial. There are a lot of videos on YouTube, but I didn’t find any for the Model A5, which is this product on Amazon. Hornbill has quite a variety of other models.In the end, I have a good, reliable keyless entry deadbolt lock. It took a couple hours, though I think I could easily do it a second time in probably 20 minutes (replacing a previously installed deadbolt).

Much better than Expected
I was initially going to give this lock a 4/5 rating due to it using 4 AA batteries rather than including a rechargeable battery. I also didn’t like that it needs a Bluetooth gateway.However, after installing this lock and setting it up, I was blown away by how easy it was to install and how responsive the connections were.I have used another high brand lock and hated that it damaged the door more than necessary by adding an extra hole in the top for leverage. You can see that hole in the image. This lock, however has a genius mechanism that gives the large lock the leverage it needs without adding unnecessary holes to the door.For the price, I also do not mind the use of AA batteries as I can buy rechargeable AA with the money saved.Also, the lock only needs the Bluetooth gateway during setup. Once it’s set up and connected through WiFi, it doesn’t need to be on constantly.The lock is sturdy for its price and is really responsive. I would recommend this for indoor office doors. I wouldn’t recommend any smart lock to be the only lock for an outside facing door.

Quality smart lock
This smart lock is easy to install, and the fingerprint reader is accurate and responsive. This is the third Hornbill-branded smart lock I have ordered. All three have quality construction, which leads me to believe their locks will be durable over time.
