Wonderful “whatever you want on it” shelf
I had this shelf a long time ago. Over a decade ago and I’m shocked it’s still made as most things seem to faze out. The other half of me isn’t surprised as this shelf is wonderful for what it is. It can hold whatever will fit in the dimensions of the shelf under 12 inches in height. I have books and some bookshelf speakers in mine. It’s sturdy as the moving parts wouldn’t be moved a lot at all, but the option is certainly there to pack it up and move it. The installation was easily done myself but I had a drill too. I’d imagine hand screwing it the screws would be a bit harder. I’ve never had the thing tip over because I’m pretty aware of my surroundings and don’t place it in walk ways but it does have hardware to secure it to walls just in case. Love this thing and I’d imagine it will be around for a long time.

Portable organization
When I was in college many years ago I had a couple of folding stackable bookshelves. Since I moved often these were ideal for transporting easily from place to place, and easy to set up. I was always acquiring more and more books. I had my original book shelves for nearly 25 years, and had added considerably to my collection of folding bookshelves, but catastrophes happen, and I lost them. Living in a new small space, I absolutely NEEDED this type of shelving again. The Winsome Wood shelves are easy to put together (granted, one stage of building them can test your patience, but still its easy). For their weight and portability they are sturdy — I have some heavy books. The finish is nice. They stack well. Where I live there are uneven floors, and I am able to put tiny shims at the bottom that levels them out and stablizes them readily (important to have them stable if you have many heavy books). Additionally, the shelves can be screwed to the walls in some cases if such security is needed (perhaps with children that might pull on them and dump the shelves and their contents) and the connecting hardware for stacking can act as anchoring hardware. With the 3-tier units and the 4-tier towers, a variety of configurations can be arranged, making them versatile and attractive. I have used many styles of shelving, and other than “built-in” bookshelves (obviously not portable and limiting in their ease of rearranging), these are by far my favorite shelving solution. If I had more room I’d have even more of these shelves. Well worth the price. Ideal for students, small rooms, frequent moves, but nice in nearly any setting (I used a previous set as an entertainment center in my living room). I definitely would recommend these easily portable versatile shelving units.

We like it but . . .
The good: it is real wood and a good design. It’s attractive and sturdy too. It’s lightweight and pretty easily to assemble if you can figure out how. The bad: the wood is very very soft and chips easily. The paint is pretty terrible, if you’re going to put it where it can be seen, you’re gonna have to repaint. I had to touch up a lot of spots, but it’s going in a bedroom, so it’s not a huge deal.Just know this, the only way to install the top shelf is to pre-mount one shelf peg-bracket, turn the whole unit upside down, then install the opposite bracket with the peg already in the side hole. The mounting holes on the shelf itself don’t all line up either, so put a screw through one hole and just make your own 2nd hole with a cordless drill & a screwdriver bit.All-in-all, we like it, but it’s definitely over-priced for the quality.

Once you know what you’re doing, it’s great!
It’s a simple, nice shelf but to repeat what other reviewers have said, assembly can be challenging if you haven’t put this shelf together before. To get the top shelf into place, I had to beat it down to get it over the second bracket. I kept trying to push the shelves far enough apart to just slide it over, but that didn’t work and I finally figured out the trick after reading another review. You’re going to have to put some muscle into it. For those who are wimps like me, I put an oven mitt over my fist for padding as I pounded it down and that helped. All other parts of assembly are very easy, it’s just that very top shelf that gave me trouble. But once it’s there, you’re good to go!I wish that it had come fully assembled, but for the price I can’t really complain. I’ve got the unit on carpet and it seems very sturdy. Very light and easy to carry. Nothing was broken when it arrived. There were a few scuff marks, but it’s nothing a black permanent marker won’t cover up. I’m considering ordering a second one!

Exactly what I was after! Was looking for a bookshelf for my ever-accumulating collection of books, but did not want anything that would take up a lot of space. This fits very nicely into the corner of our living room, holds all my books with room to spare, and when not needed, I like the feature that it can be folded up! Nice looking and solid piece. Definite value for the money! Highly recommended.

Real wood, folding shelf! There are now 4 of these in my home because they’re real wood and not bad looking, and with just the twist of a screwdriver (to fold the stability pegs out of the way), they fold totally flat. So handy, and easy on the eyes!
