These “German” knives are made in EITHER China or India…and not the same!
With the name and reputation that Henckels carries, you’d expect these knives to be top notch. However, after unpacking my first set of “German” knives, I quickly learned that I was about to let down…severely. First, I noticed that the silver part of the block was scratched, the blades were stamped with the words “Made in China”, and the handles were either split or nicked pretty significantly. Three strikes, they’re out. However, with a quick call to Amazon, they offered to ship me a whole new set and they arrived less than 24 hours later. As I was unpacking the new set, I noticed some slight differences in the new box (the color of it, the visuals, etc.) but didn’t think anything of it because boxes get updated all the time and the UPCs were the same. Until… I opened the box and started washing the supposed SAME set of knives. This is when I noticed the knives were now stamped “Made in India”, had a slightly different feel to them, and the stain on the block was significantly lighter. While I was shocked, I was willing to overlook all of this because at least these knives were in better shape/were a better quality (IMHO) and I actually did prefer the color of this block better. But then, later that night as I was cooking, I couldn’t get the pairing knife out of the block and it is now stuck in the self-sharpener! I am beyond disappointed and going to be requesting yet another replacement…from India!

These are great knives and the holder makes sharpening easier. The rods are good but a wet stone is better if you know how to use it. These knives stay very sharp so be carful and not cut yourself.

Quality looking knive set. After researching premium knife brands, almost all do not recommend dishwasher cleaning. For that assessment and the documentation received with the knive set, I will hand wash all knives and use the dishwasher. Knives appear sharp and well made. I may follow up with a more detailed review once I use this cutlery.

PLEASE READ ENTIRE REVIEW! For starters these knives are AMAZING! I only hand wash/hand dry my knives & I make sure they are immediately placed back into the block. My father purchased the Calphalon 20pc Sharp-IN set for $300 & loves them. After using these for a week straight they are (in my opinion) similar, but much better! I’ve researched & looked at a lot of sets over the years, but I was not ready to throw hundreds of dollars on a set. I came across these recently for a little under $200 I pulled the trigger. These are extremely comfortable in the hand! The handle is beautiful & the curve on the butt of the knife helps give a very natural, well balanced feel when cutting, slicing, or chopping.**EXTRA NOTE FOR THOSE THAT WANT MORE INFO**#1 – I read a lot of other peoples reviews before purchasing & noticed a lot of reviews with rust spots. If you hand wash & dry your knives completely you will never have to worry about the rust spots. No matter the brand, or price ALL knives can rust! Especially if you wash them in the dishwasher & don’t fully hand dry them before placing them back into the block.#2 – Also saw a lot of complaints about the UTILITY knife not sitting down like the Serrated Utility (LEFT) & the Parer (RIGHT) This is simply because the Utility knife has a much larger blade than the Parer so it sits on top of the ceramic sharpener inside the block & the Serrated knives do NOT have the sharpeners inside their slots so it allows them to rest downward. IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE OFFSET LIKE THAT. Some may have an OCD fit with it being a little offset, but trust me these knives are AMAZING! If it fits your budget I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! 10/10

So first off, yes, they are made in China. Henckles are made in China and Spain to help cut production costs, these aren’t the higher end Zwilling knives made in Solingen, Germany, but they are quality. Great carbon steel knives that work well for the home cook. I love the sharpness right out of the box, it makes it great for slicing and cutting whatever you need to. The block in my opinion is a little big, but I do have a large kitchen so counterspace is a luxury I have. In a smaller kitchen I would try to find a way to place them to maximize my space. One of my biggest complaints is they don’t hold an edge as long as expected. I was expecting the edge to last longer. The built in sharpener works okay at best, so I would recommend getting an actual sharpener. I picked up a simple Henckles one and it works fine. Overall, it is a great value for the price, and would be great for the home cook. The handles feel great, good weight, and cuts well.
