Product Overview

The 72546-TK8-A01 Power Sliding Door Cable Kit is a high-quality replacement component engineered specifically for Honda Odyssey 3.5L V6 SOHC models produced between 2011 and 2020. This kit includes only the power sliding door cable assembly—without the motor—and is compatible with either the left (LH) or right (RH) side of the vehicle, depending on your specific configuration. Designed as an exact OE-equivalent, this cable restores smooth and reliable operation to electric sliding doors that may have developed issues due to wear, fraying, or snapping over time.

Electric sliding doors are a key convenience feature in modern minivans like the Honda Odyssey, offering easier access for passengers, improved cargo loading, and enhanced usability in tight parking spaces. When the original cable fails, it can leave the door stuck, unresponsive, or completely non-functional. This replacement part addresses those common failures by providing a durable, precision-engineered solution that matches the performance and fitment of the factory-installed component.

Key Features

  • Direct OE Replacement: Manufactured to meet or exceed original equipment specifications, ensuring perfect compatibility and dependable long-term performance.

  • Durable Construction: Built to resist environmental stressors and mechanical fatigue, reducing the likelihood of premature failure compared to aging original parts.
  • OE Quality Assurance: Engineered to replicate the form, function, and reliability of the original part installed at the factory.

Function and Importance of Electric Sliding Doors

Electric sliding doors represent a significant advancement in vehicle accessibility and convenience, especially for families, seniors, and professionals relying on minivans for daily transport or delivery operations. Unlike manual doors that require full physical reach and strength, electric doors open with a button press—or even voice activation in some advanced systems—making them ideal for tight parking spots, rainy weather, or when carrying heavy items.

In crowded urban environments or multi-level parking facilities, being able to operate the sliding door remotely enhances safety and reduces strain. The system typically integrates with remote key fobs, interior switches, or smartphone apps, allowing users to open or close the door without exiting the vehicle. Some models also support partial opening for ventilation or controlled access.

However, these systems depend on several components working in harmony: the motor, control module, sensors, and crucially—the cable. Over time, the cable—which transmits force between the door mechanism and the motor—can degrade due to constant tension, exposure to moisture, UV radiation, or repeated flexing. Common failure signs include jerky movement, complete lockup, grinding noises, or the door failing to respond to commands. In such cases, replacing just the cable often resolves the issue without needing to overhaul the entire system.

Benefits of Choosing This Cable Kit

This OE-quality cable ensures that the electric sliding door returns to its intended performance level. Installation restores seamless operation, eliminates frustrating malfunctions, and maintains the safety features embedded in the original design. Whether you’re replacing a snapped cable after years of use or upgrading a worn-out unit before a long trip, this kit provides a cost-effective alternative to dealer-only parts while matching OEM standards.

Additionally, because it’s designed for direct fitment, installation is straightforward for those familiar with basic automotive repair or professional technicians alike. Proper alignment and secure mounting are essential, but no special tools beyond standard garage equipment are required—unless the motor itself needs attention.

Important Notes Before Purchase

  • Motor Requirement: This kit does not include the motor. Confirm that your existing motor is functional before installation. If the motor shows signs of failure (e.g., no sound when activating the door, burnt smell, or physical damage), it should be tested or replaced first.
  • Compatibility Confirmation: While this part fits all Honda Odyssey 3.5L V6 SOHC models from 2011–2020, variations exist based on trim level, regional specifications, or optional configurations. Always verify compatibility using your vehicle identification number (VIN).
  • VIN Verification Recommended: To avoid returns or mismatches, we strongly advise providing your VIN when placing an order so our team can confirm precise fitment.
  • Warranty Coverage: The product comes with a 365-day maintenance service warranty against defects in material and workmanship under normal usage conditions. This covers manufacturing flaws but not damage caused by improper installation, accidents, or misuse.

    Works great
The product is ready to use. Much lower price than Honda and the quality is good. I followed instructions on youtube to replace my broken cable and it works just fine.

Perfect fit, and much easier to install than the cable only kits
This will be my fourth replacement of the driver’s side sliding door cable. The first time I replaced the cable it lasted about a week, the second time a month, the third time 18 months, and I’m hopeful that this latest replacement will be the last. For the first three replacements I opted only to buy the cables with the separate ferules. And, I made the mistake of buying a couple different ferule crimping tools. But, ultimately, none of them were able to crimp the ferules tight enough, and I ended up having to manually crimp them with vice grips. For two of the three failures, it was this ferule connection that ultimately ended up slipping, then causing the motor to mangle the cables and require replacements. That’s why I was excited to find this kit which has the ferules already factory attached, eliminating the likely point of failure. Unlike one reviewer mentioned, the ferules were the perfect size for the spindle, and required no filing or alterations.Having replaced the cable multiple times, the latest install took a little less than two hours. The first time around was easily 4 or 5 hours. As others have pointed out, there are plenty of YouTube videos on the replacement which can be followed.A few tips from the install:1. Take pictures of the motor housing once the cover is removed to help with reassembly. There is a front and a back to the cable winding spindle that you remove, and you’ll want to ensure that the cable running to the front is secured on the front, and the back on the back. Taking pictures will make the reassembly much easier.2. Don’t try to secure the tensioners or cable guides first when adding back the spindle to the motor. Once the appropriately wound spindle is in position, then put the tensioners and cable guides in place. If the tensioners are already in place, the spindle will try to spin and rotate, and the tensioners will try to pop out, and it will be extremely frustrating. One commenter suggested using zip ties to hold the tensioners slack during the process, which is clever and helps, but, it’s much easier simply to insert them at the end.3. As mentioned by others, the plastic pieces containing pulleys which route the cable are easily disassembled. For both of them, you should be able to separate them using only your fingers, and once exposed, there is a simple pin that slides out, allowing removal of the pulley. With this kit, it’s much more obvious that there’s no way to route the cable without removing the pulley, but with uncrimped ferules, it’s tempting (and frustrating) to try to thread it through without.

    Fit well
It was a quality part and fit my 2015 Honda Odyssey like a glove, saving me nearly a thousand dollars if I had the dealer do it. Fairly simple install if you are handy but takes a few hours.

    Sliding Door Cables
My previous door cables on my 2016 Honda Odyssey were frayed and would not allow the door to close. Purchasing these cables allowed me to replace the worn, frayed cables and repair the door mechanism to function normally again. I purchased two sets just in case the other door starts showing the same symptoms.

Used to fix a broken sliding door on a 2012 Odyssey
The door on a 2012 Odyssey stopped working because the steel cable snapped. This kit replaces both cables on each side for a total of 4 cables. The process of installing the cables on the driver’s side took me a little over an hour. Not a hard project for the mechanically inclined. It requires removing the interior side panel. Then it’s just a matter of opening up the spool and pulley on the motor. The old cable was damaged and tangled. With some effort, I got it out. I had to straighten some of the grooves in the pulley, but then easily installed the new cables. I also replaced the rear rollers on the door, and it works as good as new now.

I installed these cables on the passenger side of my 2012 odyssey and they were really easy to work with and fit perfectly. Saved me a ton of money by not replacing the motor like honda would make me do. I found a YouTube video to follow and it was certainly a nuisance working around the AC, but the cables themselves are the proper length and they come with all the necessary pieces to make it a breeze (just time consuming). But nothing really to swap over from the old broken set. Performed the relearn and the door is properly functioning again. I will do a follow up review if I find they don’t last. Now to replace the rollers so the doors slide easier.

Fit perfectly and now my sliding door works again!Note that the cable is of slightly smaller gauge that the original – I’m hoping that they’ll last as long but for now all is good.
