Secure keyless entry with your phone. August Smart Lock, 3rd Gen technology – Silver. Standards: Bluetooth Specification v4.0 (Bluetooth Smart).
YOUR LOCK ON THE OUTSIDE, A SMART LOCK ON THE INSIDE: August smart locks replace the thumbturn on the inside of your door, making your regular deadbolt smarter, more secure and way more convenient. Keep the outside of your door the same, and your keys just in case (but you won’t need them).
GET IN AND OUT WITH THE AUGUST APP: No pockets? No problem. Lock and unlock your door with the August app on your phone or Apple Watch, and leave your house keys behind.
AUTO-LOCKS AND UNLOCKS: Auto-Unlocks as you get home for totally hands-free unlocking — great for when your arms are carrying kids or groceries. With Auto-Lock and DoorSense, your home automatically secures once your door is closed, or after a set amount of time (optional feature).
EASY TO INSTALL ON ANY DOOR: Even if you’re not so handy, installation only takes about 10 minutes. August locks fit perfectly on most single cylinder deadbolts.
RENTER-FRIENDLY: Renting your place? Home improvement isn’t just for homeowners. Modernize your apartment’s lock and then take it with you when you move — the old deadbolt thumbturn can be easily reinstalled.

Customers say

Customers find the lock easy to install and convenient with its keyless entry and features. They appreciate the straightforward installation process and the app-driven instructions. However, some feel it offers poor value for money and have differing opinions on the lock feature and Bluetooth connectivity.

Designed so people aren’t confused on how to unlock it
I finally upgraded from the original first gen round August Lock (which I’ve been happy with your several years now) to this third gen version. The biggest reason I wanted to upgrade was the fact that the design of this one is like a regular lock. While the round one was working just fine, unfortunately other people unfamiliar with the lock just became baffled on how to unlock the door from the inside. With the design of this one, that eliminates that confusion for guests and it looks like a normal door lock to them. The additional features I like compared to the first gen one was the addition of the door sense feature. I haven’t experienced it enough yet to really comment on it, but the initial testing of it was nice to prevent it from trying to lock when the door was still open. The issue I did have on the first gen one was that it could sometimes jam the lock if it tried to lock when not fully latched or closed. This one so far also seems to be a lot better with the smart alert notifications. The first gen one was hit or miss when notifications would actually work with the wifi hub. But so far this new one seems to actually notify every time per my settings. The only negative thing I have about the third gen vs the first gen is the missing sounds. On the first gen one, you could have it make lock and unlock sounds when used by the app or auto lock/unlock. Unfortunately the 3rd gen doesn’t have the sounds built in. It is louder when the device is working, which somewhat substitutes for that so you can hear it working, but I’d still rather have the lock and unlock sounds option.Outside of that flaw, it is still a great product. If you are a renter, it is also perfect as the original keyed entry doesn’t change, and you still only swap the inside part, and when you move out, you simply put the original inside piece back. That’s why I preferred August Lock from anything else. It is simple, yet effective. Now I have a spare first gen one, maybe I’ll just use it for the back door.

Perfect solution if you want an easy set up
We have a rather unusual door with the knob quite far from the doorjamb. Hence you need an extra long bolt and none of the keypad locks had that option. This one allowed us to work with the existing lock and it is just so easy to set up. We didn’t opt for the wifi set up and haven’t needed it. Love having the ability to create a new code for someone and then delete it when needed. Like others, the auto unlock only works about half the time, but when it does it is awesome, especially when your hands are full coming home.

    Lasted 6 Years
I loved this Smart Lock so much that when it finally gave up the ghost 6 years almost to the month after purchase and install, I bought the exact same lock to replace it. This thing withstood two teenage, then young adult boys and my husband who constantly goes in and out of the house. It was locked and unlocked probably millions of times before it failed. The battery life has been great. I appreciated the alerts that someone left the door open on a couple of occasions. I also love the auto lock and unlock features and using it with Alexa. I was surprised my first one lasted 6 years, and I’m looking forward to another 6 years with the new one. I tried to troubleshoot the one that failed, but I really think old age got to it. It started telling me the door was locked when it wasn’t, and it made a terrible slow grinding sound when I could get it to lock and unlock with the app. I tried different batteries thinking it was a power issue. I tried recalibration of DoorSense. It was like the old lock succumbed to dementia. That’s ok. It had a good, long life.

    Competitive field
I’m not unhappy with this purchase, but I’m not especially thrilled either, given the price point. This August lock will work without a Wi-Fi Hub if you only want to connect with it when you’re at home or are outside the door, and that can save you some expense. Buying the August Hub is not cheap.I’ve heard that August is extremely reliable and well-regarded so I wanted to give their Smart Lock a try, but I think that Wyze and SwitchBot, especially SwitchBot, might be a better value. Competitors like these have stepped up their game.I purchased the August keypad separately, and really like the modern design and red backlight. It’s cool. However SwitchBot Lock Pro includes all the components – lock, hub, and keypad, even NFC access, at a significantly lower overall price. The indoor box that sits on the interior part of your door is heavy and bulky. It is very well secured by two lift levers but it still makes me a little uneasy as to how heavy this product is. I think all of the smart locks, except for Level, have this problem.Installation was quite easy, mostly because I’ve done this before with other brands. Although I didn’t think the app was perfectly intuitive, I’m used to it now, and pleased.

This is my second August lock. I bought my parents a Kevo two years ago after reading the wirecutter’s review calling it the best. It was not great. Installation wasn’t difficult, but not simple. Probably 20min total. The app is not user friendly. The tap to unlock often took multiple tries and just using the app directly was painfully slow.I bought myself an August last year and the difference is night and day. Installation was 3min maximum. The app is clean with a great UX. Unlocking with the widget from my lock screen is faster than the Kevo ever was. This year I grabbed another one to replace the Kevo at my parents’. It’s been installed for 3 days and my mom has already called me to thank me and say how much better it is.I obviously haven’t tested every smart lock out there, but if The Wirecutter’s pick of Kevo is supposed to be the best and this is better, I don’t know see how anything else could beat it.

Amazon or the August product descriptions never pointed out the fact that the August skill is not available for Alexa outside of US. Now my purchase of two August products worth hundreds of pounds is not even half as useful as I thought they would be. Stay away from this if you are not in US.
