Product Overview

Bullnose Carpet Stair Treads by Brakki are thoughtfully engineered to protect, enhance safety, and elevate the appearance of your wooden stairs. Designed specifically for indoor use on bullnose-style steps, these non-slip stair treads offer a practical solution for homes with children, pets, or elderly residents who may be more vulnerable to slips and falls. Each of the 14 durable treads measures 29.5″x9.5″x1.5″, perfectly sized to cover the top edge—the most worn and fragile part of standard wooden staircases. With their soft texture, neutral beige color, and elegant pattern, they blend seamlessly into modern home décor while delivering essential protection and comfort.

Key Features

  • Tape-Free, Adhesive-Free Design: Unlike traditional stair mats that require glue or tape, Brakki stair treads feature a non-slip backing that securely grips stair surfaces without leaving residue. This means easy installation, effortless removal, and no damage to hardwood floors—perfect for renters and homeowners alike.
  • Specialized Edge Protection: What sets these treads apart is their focus on protecting the bullnose edge—the curved top section of stairs that’s most susceptible to chipping, scratching, and wear from daily foot traffic and pet claws. By covering this high-impact zone, the treads help preserve the integrity and longevity of your staircase.
  • Durable, Washable Materials: Crafted from premium fiber materials that resist dust buildup, the treads stay cleaner longer. For maintenance, simply vacuum regularly or remove them for washing. Hand wash in cold water using mild detergent, air dry completely, and reattach—no special care required.
  • Family & Pet Friendly: The soft surface cushions impacts, reducing injury risk during accidental bumps or slips. It also protects pets from sharp stair edges and provides a comfortable walking surface for daily movement around the home.
  • Universal Floor Compatibility: Whether you have hardwood, laminate, tile, or carpeted stairs, these treads adhere safely across all flat indoor step surfaces. The understated beige tone complements a wide range of interior styles, making it easy to integrate into any room.

Benefits & Use Cases

The dual function of these stair treads—protection and safety—makes them especially valuable in high-traffic households. They safeguard both the structural condition of your stairs and the people and pets who use them regularly. The bullnose-specific cut ensures full coverage over the rounded top edge, which is often the first area to show signs of damage from constant stepping, dragging furniture, or pet activity. Beyond physical protection, the cushioned surface adds comfort underfoot and reduces noise when walking, creating a quieter, more pleasant home environment.

Because the treads are removable and machine-washable, they maintain hygiene over time—ideal for families concerned about allergens, pet dander, or frequent spills. Simply take them off, wash gently, let them air dry, and reapply. There’s no need for harsh chemicals or special cleaning tools. Their adhesive-free design also makes repositioning or replacing individual treads simple if needed.

These stair runners work well not only on wooden stairs but also on other flat indoor step types such as laminate, vinyl, ceramic tile, or even low-pile carpet. However, they are intended for straight, standard bullnose steps and may not conform properly to curved, spiral, or irregularly shaped staircases. Always ensure your stair dimensions match the tread size before installation.

Important Notes

  • For best results, place each tread flat onto a clean, dry stair surface free of dust, moisture, or debris.
  • Washing should be done with cold water and mild detergent only. Avoid bleach, hot water, or aggressive scrubbing to preserve fiber quality and backing adhesion.
  • After washing, allow treads to air-dry completely—ideally laid flat—before reattaching to prevent mold, odor, or loss of grip.
  • This package contains exactly 14 treads. Confirm your staircase has the same number of steps before ordering to avoid shortage or excess.
  • Intended exclusively for indoor use on flat, bullnose-style wooden or compatible stair surfaces. Not suitable for outdoor, uneven, or highly textured steps.

With its combination of smart design, practical features, and stylish aesthetics, the Brakki Bullnose Carpet Stair Tread set offers an effective way to protect your investment in your home while enhancing safety and comfort for everyone who walks through it.

Made life better for my dying dog!
My 9.5 yo dog is dying of some kind of brain cancer or disease. We have no idea what it is and I have spent over $15k over the last two weeks on hospital visits, diagnostics and aggressive treatment options in every possible attempt to buy some more time with my once in a lifetime soul dog sho also happens to be my first dog. She’s had arthritis and his displaysia for a few years but around a month ago she started having neurological symptoms that have severely affected her quality of life. She has signs of vestibular disease, sometimes walking drunkenly and often losing her balance. Half of her face is paralyzed and she lost the ability to secrete tears in the eye on that side and has been slowly losing her sight due to an excessively dry cornea. All this has resulted in her having extreme difficulty navigating our home despite knowing it so well.Stairs have been out of the question as her back left leg just slides out when she puts weight on while on a slippery surface. We have hardwood floors throughout and I’ve been buying lots of rugs and runners to help her be able to walk and move a bit more comfortably. I’ve been sleeping downstairs with her every night for the last two weeks because she can’t go up the stairs and lifting her in her fragile state is very uncomfortable for her.I searched stair tread options and my wife preferred a runner and runner rods for a more permanent installation but I decided to try this as a cheaper option that was easy to install and remove. I also bought a cheaper set of stair treads, they were much thinner and much smaller and did not have the folded bullnose feature. I returned those immediately after I had the two side by side. These treads were so easy to install. After reading all the reviews about how hard it was to tear off the backing, I prepared myself by grabbing a metal pick from my wife’s cricut tools and that helped immensely with getting the backing removal started. Installing the first tread was a learning experience and iterating over the next two to figure out the best way to peel off the backing and apply the tread, I became really efficient and was able to install 12 treads in about 15 minutes.Tips for installation.- When you peel the corner where you start, first make sure the longer edge – which comes off easier – is coming up clean.- Focus on pulling the initial corner away from tread rather than trying to follow the backing as it comes off.- The shorter edges tend to rip , so I actually leave a good bit of slack for the short edge where you start so you can go back and remove that a bit easier, especially using a metal pick or some tweezers to help. It may take you 2-3 minutes for the first few but once you get thr hang of it you can peel the backing off in under a minute.- I made sure to sweep, vacuum, sweep again, and then mop my stairs to get a clean surface for installation.- There is no adhesive, the backing of the treads are just extremely tacky and stay in place once you press them to a surface and put some weight on them.- The folded bullnose didn’t install perfectly with my rounded bullnose stairs but it was good enough. Some of the edges look like they’re not completely flush with the wood, but thr rest pf the tread sticks to the wood so well that I don’t have to worry about these going anywhere. I’m very impressed.I just ordered a second set for the staircase at the front of the house which my older dog doesn’t really use. After a few days of using the stairs with the tread, it just feels so much nicer, more comfortable, and safer than the bare pine we had before. I have bad knees and occasionally when the pain flares up, it can be hard to go down stairs. These treads have helped me regain confidence for myself and my elderly dog to go up and down the stairs. No more sleeping in the living room and my dog can enjoy sleeping in our bedroom as she keeps fighting her cancer.I can’t recommend this product enough.

    Look Great!
Was unsure which option to go with for our hardwood stairs to make them less slippery for my toddler, but am so glad I went with these! They are a gorgeous color and material and work well. Similar to others, my only complaint is that it’s difficult to peel the plastic on the back and there are a few places where they aren’t as sticky, but otherwise very happy with my purchase.

Tried lots of options, this won
Ordered 5 different brands of stair treads.-Didn’t like the plush carpet look, so those got immediately returned.-The ones with rubber backings are good in theory, just not in practice. They move slightly and become an eye sore.-These have a sticky backing which applied nicely. I used some heavy books to keep them down for the first day. Been good for a month now.-The material blends well with our light brown stairs and feels fine to the feet.

BACKING FOES NOT COME OFF EASILY
Although the look and coping is great, the backing to hold treads down is HORRIBLE! It doesn’t peel easily and takes a lifetime to get it off!

    Does the job!
All wood stairs with three young boys, needed something low cost that could protect the stairs and the kids! They stay in place well on all the stairs except the very top, likely different wood texture here so it’s a little more slick. There is a very thin plastic layer underneath that was pretty difficult to take off, kept coming off in small pieces and was time consuming. Otherwise it is doing what we need.

Bought for my elderly dog to use in our rental with many steps which are wooden & slippery.Positives are that much better grip for my dog, sewn well, much quieter and easier on the feet for us, easy to stick on and remove, which is important.Negatives that removing the transparent film (like cling wrap) off the backing which is time consuming and tricky.Recommend using pieces of gaffa tape (not clear tape) to start at the edges and pull away to reveal the protective film which is best to remove all of it. Also the colour is much more caramel than beige and there is nothing to prove its actually of the Brakki brand. I’d say its a copy, but a good one.

If you have a corner half way up your stairs on the turn, these will not work. These are for straight stairs only.

Love the look and quality. As stated by a few buyers it was hellish to get the backing off. So true. Initially you don’t think they are going to stick but so far rock solid.
