Robust, stable, space efficient, easy assembly and a very versatile desk set.
This is an interesting product. The front to back depth of the fixed desk is 19.7″ and the rolling, height-adjustable desk is 15.8″ front to back. The rolling table can be nested under the fixed table and pulled out to have a desk front-to-back depth of 35.5″. The adjustable height allows the rolling desk to be positioned nicely for a keyboard & mouse slightly lower than the main desktop. That rolling desktop can be set at 90 degrees to the fixed desk, too or even used separately. The fact the legs on the smaller adjustable height desk can be folded means that desk can be propped up against a wall or stowed inside a closet.The height adjustment is a nice touch; however, I will likely keep it at the height just below the fixed desktop. I like the idea of the desk being smaller when not in use and then larger when you need that.Assembly was a little weird because there were NO INSTRUCTIONS! I went back to the shipping carton, removed all the Styrofoam cushions looking for some instructions without success. I have NEVER seen flat pack furniture without assembly instructions! The assembly was relatively easy to figure out because I have built a lot of flat pack furniture over the years. The rolling desk came fully assembled, thank God! That is more complicated and the mechanism to fold the adjustable height legs is likely too complicated for the average purchaser to assemble.For the fixed desk there are two horizontal rails, one maybe 3/4″ tall, the other one taller with some cross members. I had to place that tabletop upside down on the smaller rolling desktop to trial fit the horizontal rails and the two leg assemblies to confirm what I thought were the correct positions. Once I confirmed the positioning of the two horizontal rails with tabs lined up to pre-drilled holes and how the two leg assemblies are attached, it was pretty fast and easy to attach the parts to complete the desk.In fact, assembly was more fun than most flat pack furniture. There was very little work required, everything lined up perfectly.The desk is very robustly designed with steel legs and undercarriage and a wooden top surface covered in some kind of faux marble plastic similar to the old-fashioned Formica countertops. That top surface is hard and resilient, and I suspect scratch and maybe stain resistant, too.The finished assemblies are heavy, robust and sturdy. There is no “wobble” like you see on lighter, less robust desks. The rolling desk has lockable casters so you can move and then lock the desk into position. The castes are a bit too small for my taste, but the smaller form factor makes it more like a piece of fine furniture. The small casters might create a little drag on carpeted floors, but move quite easily on hardwood, tile and other hard surfaces.With thoughtful and impressive design and robust materials and manufacture, this is a quality item that will serve you well for many years. The nesting action and folding rolling desktop make the unit(s) very clean- and modern-looking, versatile, reduced footprint that is expandable and quite stabile with an excellent top surface.This item is definitely a solid five-star product. But those missing instructions were a bit vexing at first!
