- Contemporary Aesthetic: The neutral grey hue and clean shag pattern effortlessly complement modern, minimalist, or eclectic interiors without overwhelming existing decor.

Benefits & Use Cases
This area rug excels in environments where comfort meets functionality. Its soft texture makes it especially appealing in bedrooms and children’s playrooms, offering a gentle surface for sitting or rolling around. The non-shedding nature ensures low maintenance—ideal for busy households or pet owners who value cleanliness. The neutral grey tone allows seamless integration with a wide range of color schemes, enabling homeowners to refresh their space without replacing furniture or flooring. Many buyers appreciate how quickly it transforms a room’s ambiance, adding warmth and visual depth while delivering tangible comfort benefits.
Whether placed beneath a sectional sofa, centered in front of a fireplace, or used as a statement piece in a neutral-toned lounge, the Fontana Shag Rug enhances both tactile and visual appeal. Its contemporary look appeals to those drawn to modern design principles—clean lines, subtle textures, and understated elegance. Because it’s crafted from synthetic materials, it resists moisture better than natural fiber rugs, making it suitable for less dry climates or spaces prone to occasional spills.
Buyers often note that the rug arrives rolled tightly and may require a few hours of unrolling and flattening to reduce creases. Placing heavy objects like bookshelves or furniture legs directly on the rug can help speed up the flattening process. Once settled, it lays flat and maintains its structure well under normal household conditions.
Important Notes
- Initial Odor: Some customers report a temporary plastic-like smell upon delivery, particularly noticeable in enclosed spaces. Airing out the rug in a well-ventilated area—preferably outdoors or near an open window—for 24–48 hours typically eliminates the odor before indoor placement.
- Thickness Perception: While many users enjoy the cushioned feel, others find the pile slightly thinner than traditional wool or ultra-plush shag rugs. This may affect expectations if you’re accustomed to extremely thick padding; however, it still provides adequate softness for casual use.
- Maintenance Tips: Routine vacuuming (using suction-only mode, avoiding beater bars) helps maintain appearance and prevent matting. Spot clean spills promptly with mild soap and water. Avoid excessive moisture to protect the backing and fibers.
- Durability Considerations: As a synthetic fiber rug, it performs well in moderate traffic but may show wear faster than natural fiber options in high-abrasion zones like doorways or under constantly moving furniture.
- Laydown Guidance: For best results, unroll the rug and allow it to relax flat for at least 24 hours before positioning. Using double-sided tape or non-slip pads under corners can prevent shifting on smooth floors.

Just WOW !!!
A Wise Women said: Just get Rugs…and I listened. This super soft, thick beauty is a 11×15′, the room way bigger but after measuring again and again, this was the right size for this side of the room. It comes nicely wrapped (the right way, not with the carpet side out, the PAD side out) and had instructions to un-fold and roll back up for 24-48 hours. Sorry, couldn’t follow the instructions. After putting pad out and the grand unveiling/un-folding …there was no going back. There is a smell…it’s called New Carpet Smell! I over sprayed it with Fabreeze. There is still a visible crease down the center…that’s on me for not following the directions. Really hard to vacuum because it’s so plush but soooo worth the absolute softness and laying on a cloud is the best! If I did carpet with this quality, it would have been well over $3-K, yes I did get an estimate and that was for a lower end carpet.

So soft and perfect
Was a little surprised initially when it arrived folded instead of rolled. I was sure that would be an issue but it wasnât at all. Bought this to replace an ancient pottery barn rug in my living room. Going with shag was a change for me but I am so glad I did. This rug is so soft and the colors are beautiful – subtle enough as a neautral but also adds just enough to add some pizazz to the room. Safavieh is a good brand Iâve had success with in items for home decor without breaking the bank. No feedback on cleaning it as itâs brand new. Highly recommend

Not as cushy as Hudson line
The rug arrived rolled and sealed in plastic so even though it was raining, it stayed completely dry.The new rug smell was very minimal and even slightly pleasant – I am hyper sensitive to scents and get instant headaches or coughing fits but this didn’t do that. The colors are pretty much as expected, the gray might be a little bit darker and there is lighter beige than I expected but it’s a dark, cloudy day so maybe I’ll see the colors a bit better on a brighter day.I rolled it out no problem, the edges were curled up quite a bit and I was afraid they wouldn’t settle. I vacuumed the rug to fluff it up and while doing that, it settled down the edges of the rug so they were almost completely flat by the time I was done. They’re still a little bit curled but I expect it to simmer down over the next week and if not, I do have some rug corner things to help hold them down. Not too worried about it.I bought this rug after spending time at my brother’s house and my sister’s house. My brother bought a rug at Sam s Club that looked similar, not sure what brand, but the largest size was 8×10. My sister’s rug was from Way fair and is from the Safaveigh Hudson Shag collection. Both of those rugs are definitely cushier under foot than this rug. This rig is still a lot cushier than a regular low pile rug, and the fibers are SUPER SOFT, but the problem is that the fibers are actually too soft/thinso they don’t offer much cushion under your feet. My brother’s and sister’s rugs are almost as soft but considerably more cushion. You can lay down comfortably and even wrestle, flinging kids around, on their rugs (with no additional padding) but I can’t sit comfortably on this one not would I ever attempt wrestling with the kids on it.It’s not a bad rug by any means and I think I’ll keep it but I’m bummed that I will have to buy an additional rug pad to go under it. I was hoping it would be like my sister’s Safaveigh rug but it just isn’t. I am slightly regretting not just getting the low pile and super colorful rug I actually wanted since I’ll have to buy a rug ad anyway and I got this one in hopes of avoiding having to get a separate rug pad.It looks nice and is definitely silky soft underfoot so if rug textures or even carpet textures tend to be a problem for you, I recommend this. But if you’re looking for a cushiony pile, this isn’t it.

Gorgeous and Plush Rug
This rug was even better than Iâd hoped it would be! I was a bit nervous about it, as we needed something extra plush and soft for our wild kid, and I was skeptical as to whether the pattern would look as nice in personâmost rugs tend to photograph better online. Fortunately, the rug delivered on both fronts. It looks incredible in person, and like a much more expensive rug than it is. And it is SO soft. Our toddler has been rolling around on it constantly for the past day. We ordered the 8×10, which was just right for our space and feels much bigger. While it *is* extra plush, if you are looking for lots of cushion, you may still want a pad for underneath. The ends were curled up a bit from being rolled to ship, but I was able to quickly remedy with some heavy items on the corners overnight. Shipping was also very pleasant. Initially I was told it was on back order till August. Then yesterday came up to my door after a walk, and found the giant rug awaiting on my steps. I was pumped! It was well packaged and clean, smell wasnât overpowering or anything like that.My kid hasnât spilled any food or weird art supplies on it yet, so I canât comment on how well it cleans. But rest assured, she will get after it in no time. So Iâll be sure to provide an update once her reign of terror starts.

Love love love it
I was worried it would not be quality when it arrived. I was wrong. It is really soft to the touch. The pile is thick. It took about 24 hours for the folds to flatten out. I was really impressed and will more than likely buy runners for the hall way. I had to vacuum so I used my pet vacuum attachment for the wand because it doesnât have a beater brush on it but is easier than just the wand. My shark vacuum can only turn off the beater brush on bar floor setting and that didnât work. It caused to much suction and vacuum didnât move.I know growing up with shag carpet we raked it with a carpet take to keep the fluff (need to find one of those to keep pile fluffy) and our vacuums had adjustable height levels that todayâs donât have. My rug is 9×14 and it didnât take me long at all to use pet vacuum attachment.
