Product Overview

The Sharp R-21LCFS is a reliable, medium-duty commercial microwave oven built to meet the demands of foodservice environments where speed, durability, and ease of use are essential. Designed for institutions such as schools, hospitals, office pantries, delis, and small restaurants, this 1000-watt microwave combines robust construction with intuitive operation. Its stainless steel exterior and interior not only give it a professional appearance but also ensure long-term resistance to corrosion and simplify daily cleaning under high-use conditions. With a classic dial timer and straightforward controls, the R-21LCFS supports efficient meal preparation without the need for complex programming—ideal for staff operating during peak service hours.

Key Features

  • Classic Dial Timer: The user-friendly rotary timer allows precise settings from 10 seconds up to 6 minutes. Bright LED indicators provide clear visibility of the countdown, enabling operators to monitor heating progress instantly without interrupting the process. This simplicity reduces training time and minimizes errors in fast-paced environments.
  • Spacious 1.0 Cubic Foot Interior: Engineered to accommodate large or multiple food items, the cavity fits a full 13.5-inch platter, prepackaged meals, single servings, or half-size pans placed either vertically or horizontally. This flexibility supports diverse menu needs and portion sizes common in commercial kitchens.
  • Auto-Cancel Timer Function: If the door is opened during operation, the remaining cooking time automatically resets to zero. This feature conserves energy, prevents unnecessary microwave activation, and helps extend the magnetron’s operational life by reducing overall runtime.
  • Durable Stainless Steel Construction: Both the exterior wrap and interior lining are made from high-grade stainless steel, offering a sleek, modern look that matches commercial kitchen standards. The material resists scratches, stains, and wear while supporting effortless wipe-down maintenance between uses.
  • In-Timer Heating Guide: A convenient reference chart is located directly above the timer dial, providing recommended heating times for popular foods including pizza, soup, casseroles, and beverages. This eliminates guesswork and speeds up consistent, accurate reheating across recurring menu items.

Benefits & Use Cases

The Sharp R-21LCFS excels in settings where reliability, efficiency, and low maintenance are critical. Its solid build and straightforward interface make it particularly valuable in educational institutions, healthcare facilities, corporate break rooms, and catering operations that require consistent reheating of meals throughout the day. The inclusion of preset heating recommendations based on common food types reduces human error and streamlines workflow when warming frozen entrees, canned soups, baked dishes, or beverages.

Staff benefit from the ability to pause cooking by opening the door—this doesn’t stop the cycle but cancels the timer, allowing them to retrieve or rotate items without losing track of time. This practical feature improves safety and convenience during busy shifts. Additionally, the absence of digital displays or programmable presets means fewer potential points of failure, contributing to longer service intervals and reduced downtime.

Users consistently note its build quality and dependable performance, describing it as sturdy and long-lasting even under heavy use. The combination of energy-conscious design and durable materials ensures the microwave remains functional through years of daily operation, making it a cost-effective solution for businesses prioritizing value and longevity.

Important Notes

The Sharp R-21LCFS operates on standard 120-volt electrical systems, which may be found in North American residential and most commercial buildings. Before installation, verify local power compatibility and ensure the unit is connected to a dedicated circuit if required by building codes or usage intensity. Adequate ventilation must be maintained around all sides of the appliance to prevent overheating and maintain optimal performance.

While the stainless steel surfaces support easy wipe-down cleaning after each use, periodic deep sanitation may be necessary depending on frequency and type of food processed. No turntable, rack, or additional accessories are included unless explicitly listed separately in product documentation. Always consult the manufacturer’s user manual for proper setup, safe operation, and maintenance guidelines to maximize lifespan and performance.

This product reflects Sharp’s commitment to innovation, quality, and practical design—delivering a microwave that meets real-world demands without unnecessary complexity. Whether used in a school cafeteria or an office kitchenette, the R-21LCFS provides dependable reheating performance backed by a brand known for reliability in commercial appliances.

Great item, well built, and dial lights up nicely
Heats up soups, stews, left overs, and frozen “microwaveable” dishes fast. Same with drinks like milk, tea, and coffee. It’s useful that this works through a heating system beamed from the bottom rather than from the side (with a dish that rotates), which makes cleaning the insides easy. Also, the dial is simple to read and lights up in a clear, bright way, which is useful for the elderly. And it’s low noise. Overall, this microwave is great.

    Best microwave I’ve ever used
The cooking is very even, more even than any other microwave I’ve ever used. I was initially concerned that there isn’t a “defrost” mode or any way to reduce the power, but since the heating is so even, it actually defrosts things much more gently (with less risk of hot spots) on full power than my old turntable microwave did on its lowest power levels. The even heating also results in less splattering, and the lack of hot or scorched spots makes foods come out much better. Some foods that I used to avoid microwaving (because I didn’t like the scorched or overheated spots, or bits of food that pop or explode) are now fine to microwave.I love the simplicity of the controls. It is very easy to use, and easy even for people who tend to be forgetful. If you take food out and then close the door, it doesn’t start running again. The dial is quick and easy to operate, so its very easy to add time if you actually do want to cook something longer. The bottom inside is smooth (no turntable) and easy to clean, and everything appears to be very well built. I don’t see any parts that look like they would be easy to damage or wear down, so I expect it to last a long time. I had an issue with an older microwave (different brand) that had a push button to release the door, and one day after only a little over a year of use, the push button door release just stopped working and there was no obvious way to fix it. This microwave has a much more robust door latch mechanism that looks like it should last a long time.I will update this review if anything changes, but so far, after using two of these for a few months, I have every expectation that they will still be going strong many years from now.

    I love this microwave.
This Sharp microwave oven delighted me as soon as I opened the box. It is very attractive and everything about it feels robust. The control is one of the best features. It is very simple to operate, intuitive, and safe. I highly recommend this oven.

    Simple. Effective.
If you are an analog person in this digital world, this is your microwave. Only 2 things could be better: the light inside on when the door is open, and; a real brass bell that rings when it’s done instead of the 1990s digital tone.

    Microwave of The Gods!
This microwave is exactly what I wanted, attractive, solid built and simple to use. I have not experienced the complaints of other reviewers. The handle is substantial and closes with a reassuring, hefty thud.As others have noted, the dial does not operate after a few minutes of sitting at the end of a cycle unless you open and shut the door. This is a commercial unit, designed to be used frequently, by many people. It’s obviously designed to do that. Either add time sooner or open and shut the door and get over it!Since this microwave was going in my island, I didn’t want a bunch of complicated buttons to fidget with while leaning over. The simplicity of a single dial is awesome. (Who uses those preset buttons anyway?)Will this microwave change your life? Probably not. Will it adequately cook, melt and reheat your food easily, while being absurdly simple to operate? Why, yes… yes it will!

Door handle broke after less than 2 years
Overall I’m pleased with this microwave oven. It’s a no-frills, simple design I learned about when they got one for the break room at work. It’s roomy enough for standard needs… cup of coffee, pot of soup, popcorn, dinner plate, etc. Controls are simply one dial with lighted numerals to stand for minutes or seconds if it’s under 1 minute. The lights “count down” as it’s cooking, so you know how long is left. This is also a great method to figure out what time is best and choose that precise time again later. Sure, you can do that with a digital readout, but with this oven it’s just a quick spin of the dial and done. Takes less than a second. The dial offers very little resistance. It spins not freely enough to keep going when you let go, but very easily so dialing in the time is effortless. It does not move as it counts down, so this is an electronic process and not mechanical (to my knowledge). It’s 1000 watts, so it has plenty of cooking power.I had to remove some stars, unfortunately, because 1 year 7 months after purchasing this the door handle broke. I like the design of the door handle, but it has some vulnerable parts inside. The door latches closed and the microwave will not turn on unless the door is closed. This is a safety feature. Also if you close the door and don’t activate the microwave for a while, it times out and will not power on unless you open and close the door again. Nice safety feature so you don’t accidentally cook your food twice if you’re absent-minded. The handle latches closed and to open it you squeeze the door handle. It’s not exactly intuitive, so new users may just grab and pull until they learn they have to squeeze to release the latch. We had some house guests and when they opened the microwave door, a part inside broke, so the door would no longer latch closed, and consequently the microwave would not power on. I took it apart to diagnose the problem (not recommended). It was a complex operation just to get the door apart. **Skip to the end if you’re not interested in a technical description** See the attached pictures. I found that the door latch mechanism involves a spring holding tension on the part that moves in your hand, and also on plastic door latches inside which rock on a pivot. This pivot is built onto the parts as a small plastic nub about 4mm diameter and about 6mm long, which fits into a metal hole as a fulcrum for the mechanism. There are two parts like this (upper and lower) and the nub sheared off of the upper part. The part costs about $9 and it’s available online, but I didn’t want to wait that long, and the unit was still under warranty. Unfortunately, the nearest authorized service location is about 20 miles away, and they couldn’t even look at the microwave for several days. My original request to customer service was to just send me the part, as I was pretty confident I could put it in myself. They completely ignored this request and sent back their boilerplate reply 1) warranty applies 2) call this number. I wound up fixing the part myself by drilling through where the nub was with my rotary tool, cutting down a small machine screw to length with a hack saw, and gluing it in. Works perfectly, although I’ve slightly decreased the structural integrity of the plastic latch head by drilling through it. We’ll see how long it lasts or if the other one fails too. If you’re going to do this operation bear in mind that it’s not easy to just drill through the plastic part with a drill, as the drill bit keeps jumping around on the slick plastic. A rotary tool works much better, but be careful about melting the plastic too. Do it in short sessions. Also, it is necessary to cut down the machine screw. It has to fit into a narrow area, so the length of the nub does matter. Finally, I did try just gluing the plastic nub back on with super glue, but it immediately broke off again as soon as I reapplied the spring tension. **End of technical discussion** I recommend taking it easy on the door handle, and teaching guests how to open the microwave.

Me pregunto qué hubiera pasado si no hubiera manifestado mi inconformidad???
