- Build Quality: Constructed from durable zinc alloy with a premium oil rubbed bronze coating for corrosion resistance and long-lasting appeal.

- Connectivity: Wi-Fi enabled (supports 2.4 GHz networks only) for seamless integration with the mobile app and real-time remote management.

Benefits & Use Cases
This smart lock is particularly valuable for homeowners who want to replace traditional keys with a more secure and user-friendly system. Biometric authentication significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized duplication, while the ability to issue temporary access codes makes it ideal for managing Airbnb or Vrbo rentals—allowing you to give guests entry during their stay without handing over physical keys. Property managers appreciate the audit trail provided by the app, which logs every unlock event with timestamp and method used. For everyday use, features like one-touch locking and app-controlled guest access streamline daily routines and enhance security. The inclusion of a mechanical backup key ensures you’re never locked out during power failures or technical glitches, adding an essential layer of reliability.
Beyond personal residences, the Hornbill lock suits small businesses, offices, or community buildings where controlled access is critical. Its compatibility with standard door hardware means it integrates smoothly into existing setups without costly upgrades. Users also benefit from reduced maintenance—no more rekeying after lost keys or changing combinations for new tenants. With intuitive controls and robust encryption between devices and the app, the system maintains privacy without sacrificing usability.
Important Notes
- Batteries are required for all functions and should be monitored regularly. A low-power indicator will alert you when replacements are needed—typically after several months of normal use depending on frequency of access.
- A physical backup key is included with purchase in case of emergencies such as dead batteries or system malfunctions; keep it in a secure location separate from the lock.
- Installation requires measuring your door thickness and confirming it meets standard specifications (usually 1-3/8″ to 1-3/4″). If your door has unusual dimensions or reinforced framing, consult installation guidelines or consider professional assistance.
- The mobile app requires an active internet connection through your home’s Wi-Fi network to enable remote features like granting access or reviewing activity history. Offline functionality includes local unlocking via fingerprint, PIN, or IC card.
- Only genuine Hornbill-branded IC cards are confirmed to work reliably; third-party or unbranded cards may fail due to protocol differences and are not covered under warranty.
- Ensure your Wi-Fi network uses the 2.4 GHz band—this model does not support 5 GHz connections required by newer routers.

Great product, worked perfectly right out of the box! I did have an issue with the door handle assembly and called the customer service toll free number and received a text response within an hour! I had a defective latch assembly, which was out of stock. Nancy, the customer service representative went off her way to make sure the problem was solved to my satisfaction. THAT’S GREAT CUSTOMER SEREVICE!!!

Inside door handle
Is the inside door handle supposed to be vertical? Normally they are in a horizontal position, please advise. Thanks

Good Product
The lock was very easy to install and everything worked as expected. I especially like the fact that it has multiple channels for unlocking including fingerprints and a FOB. For the gateway, I would have preferred if it plugged directly into an electrical outlet instead of charger connected via a wire. Has a polished look from the outside also. Very good overall product, and I highly recommend it.

Solidly built with a ton of features
We were installing this to replace the existing handle and lock on our door. Because of this, we luckily did not have to drill any extra holes or make extensive modifications. I did have to expand the recess in our door jam a little bit, but more on that later. The kit includes templates for new installation which, even though we did not need them, I really appreciate. The hardware installation went more or less as planned since the design is pretty much identical to every other handle and deadbolt set out there. What I mean by that is the latch and deadbolt configuration utilizes a rotating shaft in the center with two threaded cylinders on either side for cinching the interior and exterior halves together tightly against the door. A power cord is then fed through the door under the mechanism for connection to the interior unit which houses the batteries. In regards to the hole in the door jam that receives the dead bolt, I made one necessary and two voluntary modifications. The plastic insert for the bolt hole was a bit larger than our old one so I had to chisel it out a bit. I also swapped out the included screws with longer 3.5â as well as a larger 4-screw plate. All of these upgrades help to make brute force intrusion much less likely. The app can be found on the App Store and controls every aspect of the lock except for the old school manual key operation. One note here is that you are required to setup an account to use the app, and you need the app to use the lock. This always bothers me when I have to give out my email just to use something. Also, somehow it knows if you use a temporary email. The first impressive thing about this lock is the sheer number of different options for unlocking. This list includes the app itself, fingerprints, passcode, key fob/card, regular door key, and something called an E key, which is used by sending permission to another person with the app. Each method is very intuitive for programming though. The app has an excellent menu system that guides you through the process for each set up.Combined with the voice guidance from the lock itself. It was simple to get everyone’s fingerprints programmed in. One thing to note for the fingerprint scanner is that, once registered, the fingerprint is recognized at virtually all angles as long as you use the same part of the pad on your fingertip that you registered. We decided to add the thumb and index finger of everyone who lives in the household for versatility. Something worth mentioning about the fingerprint scanner is that you have to wait several seconds before attempts. Otherwise, the lock will say âunlockedâ but wonât be. That is actually pretty annoying. In my opinion, if it is not successful, it should give the âoperation failedâ message like when it doesnât work. That would only make sense. We mostly used a numeric code on our previous lock, so I assumed that would probably be our preferred method on this one, but it probably wonât. One thing to note with the passcode option that takes some getting used to, is that you have to âwake upâ the lock pad before you start typing the code. In other words, you have to touch the pad until it lights up then start entering the code which beeps after each key. Then you have to hit the # key, which acts as an âEnterâ button. Incidentally, this same # key is used to lock the door manually with a long press.Speaking of locking, there are a couple of automatic options. First, you can use âauto-lockâ mode in which you set a specific time delay for the lock to re-engage after you have unlocked it. For this feature, you can choose one of their presets from 5-60 seconds or enter a custom time (in seconds). Then, the other option is the âpassage modeâ which allows you to set the locking for time of day.The four AA batteries, theoretically last about six months. Something that I discovered, however, is that sometimes, the batteries can reach a point where they do not have enough power to operate the lock, but apparently arenât low enough to register as âlow batteryâ. This is very frustrating since the only option at that point is to use the manual key or throw the bolt from the inside. The lock did include a âgatewayâ device that allows for smart home integration. We decided not to use this function because we donât like having our lock connected to the Internet. We may decide to use this option later on a closed network, smart home system, which is not Internet connected.Even considering all of these features and options, I still did not cover them all. In conclusion, this is a great lock with an absolute ton of functionality.

Look else where
The main product is okay at best, build quality is not the best. The G2 gateway, which is the only way to remotely open the lock, doesnât work. They claim it works with 2.4 GHz, but it doesnât if you have any decent router, guessing it is too new for the this Junk. Support responded but couldnât fix it, Amazon cannot refund only for the G2 gateway, they want me to return the whole product. What a hassle!!!! Stay away from this cheap product, should know you get what you pay for!
