Product Overview

This Door Latch Cable Repair Kit provides a reliable solution for restoring functionality to damaged or dry-rotted door latch cables across a wide range of Ford and Mazda vehicles. Designed for models from 1992 to 2013, the kit is compatible with the Ford F-Series trucks (F-150, F-250, F-350), E-Series vans (E-150, E-250, E-350), Ford Ranger Extended Cab, Expedition, Excursion, Navigator, and Mazda B-series. The kit includes four replacement cables—specifically six standard-length cables and two locking cam variants—to accommodate different door types such as rear access doors, liftgates, cargo doors, and suicide doors. By replacing deteriorated original plastic components with durable aluminum cables, this repair kit helps prevent further interior damage caused by loose or broken cables and restores smooth operation to affected doors.

Benefits & Use Cases

Over time, door latch cables in older Ford trucks and SUVs can deteriorate due to prolonged exposure to heat and sunlight, leading to cracked plastic housings and broken internal cables. This often results in doors that won’t open or close properly, or worse, become completely non-functional. This repair kit directly addresses that issue by replacing fragile original parts with robust aluminum cables that resist cracking and breaking. Many users report successful restoration of previously stuck or unresponsive rear doors, liftgates, and cargo doors without needing to replace entire door assemblies. Notably, the kit is especially effective for Ford Ranger owners dealing with dry-rot issues on 2004 models, as highlighted in customer feedback. While installation difficulty varies depending on vehicle configuration and individual technician experience, the kit is praised for its ability to fix non-operational doors when original cables have failed.

The aluminum construction not only improves durability but also reduces the risk of future failures caused by material degradation. Unlike plastic components that can become brittle over time, these metal cables maintain their integrity under normal operating conditions. This makes the repair a long-term solution rather than a temporary patch. Additionally, because the kit includes both standard and locking cam cables, it covers a broader range of door mechanisms—from simple side-hinged rear doors to more complex suicide doors and liftgates. Whether you’re restoring an aging fleet vehicle or repairing a classic pickup, this kit offers a practical and cost-effective alternative to costly dealership repairs or full door replacements.

Important Notes

This product is intended solely for mechanical repair of door latch mechanisms and should be installed following standard service procedures. Installation ease varies significantly among users; some find the process straightforward, while others recommend professional assistance—especially for complex assemblies like liftgates or suicide doors. Customer experiences differ regarding fitment and long-term durability, with some reporting excellent performance after years of use and others noting that outcomes depend heavily on proper installation and environmental conditions. Always verify compatibility with your specific vehicle year, model, and door type before purchasing. The package contains exactly four cables as described—no additional hardware, tools, or instructions are included. For best results, ensure all components are properly aligned and tensioned during installation according to manufacturer guidelines.

    works great
Nice, easy to use replacement part for my 2002 F150.TIP: Neither of my back doors would open. One of torq head bolts on the upper latch of the first door I worked on stripped. I had to do some cutting with a dremel tool to get it out. On the second door, 4 out of 6 bolts were on their way to stripping (thanks Ford for the soft metal bolts). I left them in, and I was able to replace 3 of the 4 end pieces without too much trouble. The worst part was cutting away the broken part on the bottom latch. Once the plastic was cut away, I was able to put on the new end without removing the cable. The door works fine with 3 repaired cable ends.

    They work
Cheaper that a factory replacement cable. Easy to install. Have to pull the handle, and latches off the truck to repair the cables. Work great.

    better than the original
I used these to fix the rear doors on my 2003 F150 the last time I purchased them I only bought enough to fix one rear door. They have lasted three years without issue. When the other door stopped working I bought them again. They are better than the original parts that FORD put on the truck. The old ones were rubber and deteriorate with time.

    Perfect!!
These were perfect for my 2005 F150. All four connecters crumbled so the door latch would not release. I replaced them with these awesome upgrades. They were easy to install and now the door opens and closes perfectly! Excellent product!

“Easy” to install, but might need fine-tuning
Bought these to replace the deteriorated plastic pieces on a 2004 Ford Ranger XLT. After watching several DIY videos, I finally found one that did NOT recommend trimming the old cables. Getting the ends into the rear suicide-doors’ handle was the hardest part, because of the sliding lock-tab – but one video recommended using the hooked end of a paint can opener tool and that worked. After installation, one door would not latch securely at the top. It took me awhile to figure out that the cable’s outer sleeve need to be pushed further into this metal replacement end by 1/8th inch. After getting it “tweaked” and working, I reattached the interior door panel (for the 5th time because of MY errors). The lower latch was hard to replace because of the doors’ metal interior plating and a tight working area. The wounds will heal on my hands (couldn’t fit a gloved hand into the gap), and the doors finally work like they did 20 years ago when the truck was new. I recommend these metal replacements and, if you are patient, you can save a few hundreds by doing it yourself.
