Excellent Value Smart Lock
This DEVO Smart Lock is quite impressive. The manual could use some clarification, and I considered knocking off one star for that, but the rest of the package is just too good to justify that. I used to own a vacation home that I rented out and I had installed a smart lock from another manufacturer, so I was already aware of the convenience and practicality of such a device. While I couldn’t find contemporary reviews for this particular lock, I took a chance on it and I am happy that I did.The lock arrived promptly, and very thoughtfully packaged. Unboxing it reminded me of opening an Apple or Nintendo device. Sturdy, attractive carton, foam inserts where needed and everything laid out in a logical, convenient fashion. The manual, which I’ll address a bit further on, is on top and provides very clear pictorial and written directions for installation. Installation is very straightforward. There is a nicely-done template providing locations, dimensions and instructions for drilling holes should you be installing on a “virgin” door. In my case I was replacing an existing deadbolt in our entry door and there was no need to drill anything.The unit will accommodate cross bore (the large hole through which the mechanism goes from inside to outside) holes from 1 1/2″ to 2 1/4″ and door thicknesses from 1 3/8″ to 2 1/8″. Installation could not be easier. With the deadbolt itself secured into the edge of the door, the attractive outside assembly is secured with two screws. These two screws also secure the interior plate onto which the assembly is fastened. No drilling of extra holes is required.There is a small rubber plug included in the parts, although listed in the manual its’ actual use is not mentioned. It is there to cover the hole into which the lower interior mounting screw is placed. You probably could have figured that out for yourself but it should be made clear.The only less-than-wonderful aspect of the whole installation and setup, for me, is in the section that details programming the lock settings. There is a flow-chart that does indeed provide the necessary directions but it is not explained with any dialog, only arrows and boxes. I found it puzzling but was able to get through it after reading everything three or four times. I would have deducted a star from my rating but the rest of the package makes up for this small flaw. Also, there are two IC cards that come with the lock, on little lanyards that can serve as key-fobs. These allow the user to unlock the deadbolt without entering a code. Very nice, but their function and more importantly the actual location of the IC card sensor area on the outside assembly is never disclosed. (It appears to be the small rectangular icon in the center of the keypad).I cannot comment on battery life, but I would suspect ten to twelve months is probably what to expect.The inside and outside units are very attractively styled, and appear entirely weatherproof.

So the bad first – I can’t figure out how to get it hooked up to wifi – the instructions are not clear. BUT – That does not really matter to me honestly, It unlocks with the key code, the fobs (2) the actual keys (2). You have to program the code and the fobs, but it was super easy, I will note the little bottom left button it looks like a house with a check mark is the one they refer to as the # key! Took a sec to figure that out. It is awesome value for the money! The thing speaks to you! It was super simple to remove / install it, it looks great! Now I want a different knob though ( it is on the way now) It is extra functional – It has a door bell on it too! It will talk to you and walk you through the steps to set your code, activate each fob ETC. PLEASE NOTE: When you set the fobs, you will select the 1 – for the first fob, and then select 2 – for the second, they will not work ( or one will not) if you try to put them both on the same number. You will set the code and then it will ask you to do the fobs immediately – DO THEM AT THE SAME TIME OR YOU WILL HAVE TO REDO THE CODE!!! Not that it isn’t fixable, but could be annoying is all – But as I said – its super simple! Instructions tell you how to do it. And the lock itself speaks and walks you through it! It says things like door lock on, door lock off – and will give you instructions – also says code successful etc. it truly surprised me that it speaks LOL I am betting it does more too, if I can get it to show up on wifi; It has a c port on it too.? at the bottom, IDK what that is for – instructions don’t say ) or not that I found anyway) I skimmed them though. Connectivity issues as it will not show in it, even if you activate it to be’ discoverable’ but I am sure I am the issue here, not the lock itself. I need to go through the instructions. It also comes with a paper on good card stock, that helps you measure to ensure it will fit – or so you know where to drill your holes etc.
