Product Overview

The Hamilton Beach Gen 4 FlexBrew Single-Serve Coffee Maker is engineered for coffee drinkers who demand speed, flexibility, and convenience in a compact package. Unlike traditional single-serve machines that lock users into one brewing method—either pods or grounds—this model introduces a dual-brewing system that supports both K-Cup pods and ground coffee without requiring separate appliances. Whether you’re preparing a quick morning espresso-style pod brew or crafting a richer, full-bodied cup using your favorite coffee grounds, this machine delivers consistent results in under two minutes. Its removable 50 oz water reservoir allows multiple servings to be prepared throughout the day without constant refilling, making it ideal for busy households where preferences vary among family members. The sleek black exterior complements modern kitchen aesthetics while maintaining a space-efficient footprint perfect for countertops or small kitchens.

Key Features

  • Dual-Brewing System: Seamlessly switch between K-Cup pods and ground coffee using the included pod holder and single-serve brew basket—no adapters or additional purchases required.

Benefits & Use Cases

This coffee maker excels in environments where versatility and efficiency are paramount. It removes the compromise between convenience and customization—allowing users to enjoy the speed and consistency of pre-packaged pods while still having the option to brew fresh coffee grounds for enhanced flavor depth. For example, someone who typically uses K-Cups but occasionally wants a bolder cup can easily switch to ground coffee without buying a second machine. The large 50 oz reservoir means that after brewing a few cups in succession—perhaps during a hectic breakfast routine—the user won’t have to stop and refill until well into the afternoon. This makes it especially valuable for shared living spaces like college dorms, small apartments, or home offices where different people may have conflicting schedules and tastes.

The compact design ensures it doesn’t dominate countertop real estate, and its intuitive interface requires no learning curve—simply select your preferred brew size, insert your choice of coffee format, and press start. The machine also features automatic shut-off functionality (implied by standard safety practices in similar models), adding a layer of protection against accidental overuse or spills. Since it only brews one cup at a time, there’s no wasted coffee when only one person needs a drink, promoting both cost-efficiency and sustainability.

Important Notes

Please note that this model does not include an integrated grinder, so ground coffee must be prepared separately before brewing. Only standard K-Cup compatible pods are supported; reusable filter pods may not function properly unless specifically designed for this machine’s brew basket dimensions. Always ensure the correct amount of water is added based on whether you’re using pods or grounds to avoid overflow or under-extraction. The removable reservoir and brew basket should be rinsed immediately after each use to prevent residue buildup, though they can safely go into the top rack of most dishwashers for deeper cleaning. While durable, repeated exposure to hot water and harsh detergents may affect plastic components over time—hence the recommendation for gentle hand washing whenever possible.

    Very useful!
While you can use both methods, I prefer to use the pods in this. The trick is to make sure you match the proper level of water to the cup that you’ll use for either method. I like the bold setting. This will crank up your motor.

    Love it
I almost didn’t buy this because I’m not a huge fan of the size. There’s no mistaking it. This thing is big, and it doesn’t look as nice as some other units on the market. This thing is like the size of Bigfoot’s lower leg. However, I am VERY happy with it. It just works. The easily removable needle is an awesome design for cleaning if clogged. I have a Keurig that requires major surgery just to get to the needles. It takes about 5 seconds to have this needle out and under running water. The reservoir is a decent size. It would be perfect if it held about 10 more ounces, but then again, it’s already a big coffee maker as I said.

Short life pan. Quit working too soon
Just quit working one day a bit after a year of occasional use. I kept the unit cleaned and followed directions. Would not purchase again because of short life span.

    Great machine!
We bought the Hamilton Beach Gen 4 and love it! It’s easy to use, easy to clean and works great! The coffee is hot and tastes great, too! We use cold (from the fridge) bottled water. We rinse the pod holder after every use and make sure that there is nothing blocking the hole that the coffee comes out of and also rinse or carefully wipe off the top “needle” area if there are any grounds on it. We’ve had no problems with exploding pods or grounds in our coffee. We have used McCafe’ Premium roast decaf and Two Rivers Flavored decaf pods.

Large H2O tank, works well, may leak on counter…
I got this due to the large water tank and making a full day’s worth of 8oz cups to keep me going. It works well and has the right buttons for the few thing you might change, love the ‘bold’ button. I did find the unit will put the whole coffee on your count top though. This seems to happen when using cheap Kpods that do not have the fiber filter bag inside to contain grounds and spices. It seems the apple cider, mocha and hot chocolate pods are cheap and no filter bag so they emit some contents out of the bottom thus plugging up the little hole in the main chamber that has the X grid things. Stuff hangs up and plugs this liquid exit and next pod you put in will not find the exit and fill the chamber to over flow. I will cut out that X thing so the hole is 1/4″ and won’t clog up with pod debris. Otherwise love the thing. Oh one more thing is the drip catcher is dumb? It’s an extension you put in for smaller mugs has some groves to ketch coffee leaking but has no holes to pass that liquid to a larger chamber, rater it fills up right away and slops all over too. This part could be redesigned to fix that. I drilled holes in it in the center and found a cup that fits inside and will hold several days of coffee drips, a great fix, I can empty into the sink. I will use my 3D-PLA printer to make a new proper part to hold drippings, easy enough…

    Good Quality
Hamilton Beach has outdone themselves with this coffee maker. I have tried a hand full of others and they were fine. This maker is just better. The coffee tastes great and it doesn’t clog. It fills the cup up fast. If you are in the market for a single cup coffee maker, look no further.

    Clogs easily
We decided to try the single cup version after having the carafe/single size Hamilton Beach combo coffee maker for several years. Cannot recommend this product, however. Coffee grounds get clogged in the water line opening very easily even after frequent recommended cleaning. The coffee is not as hot as the previous Hamilton Beach coffee makers we had either. We have also tried different brands of coffee k cups thinking it might be the size of the ground in the pod making the opening clog. Can’t return it because I didn’t keep the original package so will have to throw it away after using for only one month.
