Designed for easy installation and user-friendly operation, this electronic deadbolt combines advanced technology with traditional lock functionality. It is ideal for those who value smart home integration, remote access capabilities, and reliable locking mechanisms without sacrificing the option of a physical key backup.

Powered by 4 AA batteries, the lock features a back-lit keypad for improved visibility in low-light conditions, allowing quick and secure entry using a personalized code. Its one-touch motorized deadbolt provides smooth and dependable performance, while the single-cylinder design supports both keypad and manual key access from the outside, plus an interior turn button for added control.

With Home Connect technology, the SmartCode deadbolt can communicate wirelessly with compatible smart home systems, enabling remote monitoring and control through a web-enabled device. Whether you’re checking lock status, locking or unlocking the door, or receiving notifications, this feature adds a layer of convenience for users managing their homes from afar.

Benefits & Use Cases

This smart lock is well-suited for homeowners looking to upgrade from traditional locks to a more technologically advanced system without requiring extensive renovation. The ease of installation and programming makes it accessible even for those less experienced with smart home devices. It’s particularly beneficial for individuals who frequently misplace keys or want to grant temporary access to guests, service providers, or family members remotely.

Because it works with SmartThings via Zigbee, the Kwikset 914 integrates seamlessly into existing smart home setups, allowing users to automate routines—such as locking the door automatically when leaving home or turning on lights upon entry. The inclusion of a physical key backup ensures reliability during power outages or battery failures, maintaining security even when digital features are unavailable.

While some users appreciate the clean look and finish, others have noted that the motorized locking mechanism can produce noticeable noise during operation. This may be a consideration for those sensitive to sound levels or installing the lock in multi-family dwellings where quiet operation is preferred.

Important Notes

The lock operates on standard 4 AA batteries, which must be replaced periodically to ensure continued functionality. Users should monitor battery life through the Home Connect app to avoid unexpected lockouts. While the lock is designed for residential use and fits most standard doors, compatibility should be verified prior to purchase based on door thickness and borehole dimensions.

Some customers have reported mixed experiences with long-term durability and connectivity stability, so it’s recommended to review current user feedback and firmware updates before finalizing your decision. Although the lock is praised for its appearance and basic functionality, performance may vary depending on environmental factors and home network strength.

    Install and forget about it!
Has held up well as a Zigbee lock for 9 months. No connection issues and works well for opening and closing. I got 6 months of battery use out of it, and replaced with rechargeable batteries. This is the best kind of purchase, installed it and have forgotten about it since!

    Zigbee is awesome!
Zigbee and Z-wave are the way to go with home automation. They can be locally controlled by the hub, so the internet isn’t a weak link. And, they use less power to communicate which is especially great for battery powered devices. They’re both a better option than bandwidth and energy hogging WiFi in my opinion and of the two I’ve had better range performance with Zigbee. If you want a lock that not only opens with a code, but is great for remote operation and as part of home automations, this is a great and reliable choice. And of course the kwikset system lets you key it to match your other locks. (In case it’s of interest to home automation folks; I use the Smartthings hub and have a veritable constellation of Zigbee and zwave devices working together.)

Very nice zigbee lock that works with Hubitat
I have installed 3 of these on my home in the past couple of years. They work great and the batteries last over a year on mine. I did receive one that was used and not working. I sent it back and the next one they sent was fine. Amazon is the best there is when dealing with non working merchandise.

DO NOT BUY. DOES NOT WORK RIGHT.
Doesn’t work right out of box. I even had someone else try to get it to work. This was an exact replacement so I didn’t expect any issues.

    Kwikset do better
Good looking lockset. Returned and ordered newer model do to inability to connect to network. Neither Amazon or Kwikset support was able to resolve the issue. Ordered Kwikset 916 model only to find out it would not connect either. Touchscreen disabled randomly and battery had to to be removed and reinstalled to reenable screen. Would not recommend

Easy install and connect with Alexa
I have several Kwikset smart locks and love that I can re-key them using the smartkey tool. This is the first one that has network connectivity. I had to upgrade to the Echo Show 8 (3rd gen) to get the ZigBee hub capability (Echo Plus and Echo 4th Gen also have the ZibBee hub). To connect the lock, I used the Alexa app and had to choose Lock and “Other” (only preprogrammed to Kwikset Halo). When choosing “Other”, it asked for type of connection (ZigBee, Z-wave Etc). I chose ZigBee 3.0 and it connected immediately. The ONLY think I don’t like it that this lock mechanism is louder than the one being replaced (Kwikset 909 SmartCode)

After no end of problems with a touch screen lock from a related company, bought this instead. And it works great. The codes have been consistent, the lock and unlock functions work well, I’m able to lock it via Alexa and overall just a solid product. If you’re looking for a front door lock with a smart key feature common to this brand and Weiser, this is the one I’d recommend
