Product Overview

The Nespresso Vertuo Plus Coffee and Espresso Maker by Breville redefines convenience in the world of single-serve coffee machines. Engineered for those who demand quality without complexity, this sleek machine combines cutting-edge Centrifusion technology with intuitive operation to deliver café-quality beverages at home. Whether you’re preparing a quick morning espresso or a full-bodied cup of coffee, the Vertuo Plus ensures every sip is rich, balanced, and full-flavored—all with just the press of a button. Designed for modern kitchens, it offers a smart alternative to traditional drip brewers or manual espresso machines, making premium coffee accessible to everyday consumers.

At its core, the machine leverages barcode recognition to automatically identify each Nespresso capsule, adjusting temperature, flow rate, and brewing time to match the selected blend. This precision ensures consistent extraction across different coffee origins and roast profiles. The result? A perfectly balanced drink with ideal crema and body, whether you’re using an espresso shot or a larger coffee format. With no need for grinding, measuring, or tamping, the Vertuo Plus streamlines the coffee-making process while preserving the nuanced flavors that define great coffee.

Key Features

  • Centrifusion Technology: Spinning capsules at up to 7,000 rotations per minute, this innovative system blends ground coffee with water under high pressure, creating a thick crema and rich, full-bodied flavor profile that mimics traditional barista methods.
  • Four Versatile Cup Sizes: From a concentrated Espresso (1.35 oz) to a generous 7.7 oz Coffee, the machine delivers precise portion control for any occasion—ideal for espresso lovers, casual coffee drinkers, or anyone who likes variety without waste.
  • Automatic Barcode Recognition: Each capsule contains a unique barcode that the machine reads instantly upon insertion. This triggers the correct settings for optimal extraction, ensuring every drink tastes as intended—no guesswork required.
  • Ultra-Fast Heat-Up & Auto Shut-Off: Ready to brew in just 25 seconds, the machine saves energy by automatically powering down when idle, making it both efficient and user-friendly.
  • Large Capacity Design: The 40-ounce water reservoir allows for multiple cups between refills, while the built-in used pod container holds 13 capsules, minimizing clutter and simplifying cleanup.

Benefits & Use Cases

The Nespresso Vertuo Plus shines in environments where speed, consistency, and variety are essential. Its ability to produce four distinct cup sizes makes it ideal for households with multiple coffee drinkers—each person can enjoy their preferred strength and volume without adjusting settings or compromising taste. For example, one user might start the day with a double espresso, while another opts for a large coffee after lunch. The machine handles both seamlessly, maintaining quality across all formats.

One standout benefit is its versatility beyond hot drinks. Because the brewing process produces strong, well-extracted coffee, it’s easy to pour over ice and create refreshing iced lattes or cold brews at home. This expands the machine’s usefulness throughout the day, especially during warmer months. Additionally, the compact footprint fits comfortably on countertops without sacrificing functionality, making it a practical choice for small apartments, dorm rooms, or busy urban kitchens.

Another major advantage is the reduced maintenance compared to traditional machines. There are no filters to clean, grounds to dispose of, or portafilters to sanitize. Instead, you simply insert a capsule, close the lever, and press brew. Used pods drop neatly into the internal container, which can be emptied and rinsed when full. This simplicity appeals to users who want great coffee without the learning curve or upkeep associated with manual espresso machines.

Important Notes

While the Vertuo Plus is widely appreciated for its value, ease of setup, and rapid brewing performance, customer feedback indicates that some units have experienced minor leakage during operation. Although not universal, this issue appears more frequently with certain batches or models, so careful handling and adherence to assembly instructions are recommended. Users report that ensuring the water tank is fully seated and the capsule container is properly aligned helps reduce the risk of spills.

The complimentary starter capsule pack included with purchase provides an excellent introduction to the Vertuo line, allowing new users to sample different origins and roast levels. However, the exact assortment may differ slightly from what’s shown in product images or marketing materials. To ensure compatibility, always use only official Nespresso Vertuo-compatible capsules—third-party alternatives are not supported.

Despite isolated reports of functionality variation between units, many customers find the machine to be a reliable, cost-effective solution for home coffee brewing. Its combination of advanced technology, user-friendly design, and broad format flexibility makes it a strong contender in the single-serve coffee category. For anyone seeking a balance of quality, convenience, and variety, the Nespresso Vertuo Plus represents a thoughtful investment in daily coffee enjoyment.

    Amazing Purchase.
I was on the fence whether I wanted to purchase a Breville Espresso Machine or a Nespresso Machine. I have always spent way too much money on coffee shop coffees in the past. I wasn’t sure I wanted to buy the Nespresso machine because I bought a Keurig and an Instant Pot Pod coffee/espresso machine and both of those were subpar. They did the job but didn’t excel at anything in particular. I ended up giving BOTH of them away to a Christian thrift store because neither machine ended up being the whole package. I was also not crazy that all the Keurig coffee pods were plastic. My life is hectic and after a lot of research, I learned that ANY espresso machine has a MAJOR learning curve that can take up to 6 months on average to learn to make the perfect espresso shot/puck/pull/frothing milk. It’s not a task for the faint of heart or those who don’t have the time to learn how to pull that perfect espresso shot.So I took a leap of faith and got this Nespresso machine and boy was it worth it. Just like everyone’s preferences and tastes are different there are certain pods that aren’t my cup of tea, however, there are PLENTY that I absolutely LOVE. This Nespresso machine makes espresso shots that rival Starbucks watered-down drinks. It came with a frothing machine and I had very little research into making the perfect drink to appease my coffee addiction. I would purchase this machine 5x over! Because Nespresso has been around for a little bit there are PLENTY of social media pages and information that can easily be watched to know what the correct portion of syrup you need to make the perfect macchiato, latte, shaken espresso, and cold coffee.I have absolutely no regrets. There are options to make the pods refillable that you can purchase on Amazon however I do not think 1.10 (now if it gets higher than that I may choose the other option) is too pricey for the pod itself. I know that everyone’s price range is different that is perfectly fine because there are options for refills if you want that Starbucks experience without having to pay the price. This machine is for those busy people that wake up too late in the morning or only have 5 minutes to get their coffee and go or moms on the go!Do yourself a favor and buy the machine! Watch Tiktok or Youtube if you want to know what pod would best suit your taste. But fear not if you’re not into social media like that because this machine not only comes with a frother but also comes with I believe a 20-pack of pods for you to taste them all!A double shot of espresso is my personal favorite and (hot) coffee is my least if I am being 100% transparent but I was never really much a fan of regular hot coffee anyways. Now, the cold coffee with a chiller is a completely different story. Anyways, I hope this helps solve your 5-day dilemma of constantly researching if you are anything like me.

    In love
I bought the new Ninja espresso machine and from day 1 it was a pain in my backside. I wanted to love it and it was gorgeous, but it leaked everywhere and the espressos came out awful. I returned it and bought the Nespresso Vertuo Plus Deluxe on a recommendation from a friend, and I am in love. My espressos turn out so delicious and the crema is luscious. (Pro tip: Fold in your crema and it’ll make your espresso next level yummy. Another tip: Wait until the light stops blinking to brew your cup and the espresso comes out hotter than if you just brew as soon as you close the lid.)I couldn’t be more pleased with this purchase. I still use my Ninja coffee maker (just the regular coffee maker) for larger coffees, but a lot of times I’ll add in a shot of espresso too. Also, the Aeroccino Milk Frother is awesome. I use it daily.

    Great so far
If you like nespresso, this is a great machine at a good price. Wish the pods were cheaper and offered by more companies. So far only Nespresso and Starbucks sell vertuo pods. But otherwise, it’s easy and makes pretty good coffee.

    Nespresso Coffee Maker
I ordered a new coffee maker for my wife since her old Nespresso would not close properly. The new Nespresso Vertuo works almost automatically and brews a good cup of coffee.

    Amazing product, loving it
I will be the first to admit before getting this bad boy I was a Starbucks goer- if not every day, then every other day. I knew I needed a major sustainable change and I found my solution. It isn’t the most compact machine ever, but the efficiency of use and coffee/espresso quality are out of this world! I look forward to using it every morning and experimenting different recipes with the milk attachment. Iced lattes have become my favorite morning routine and saving so much money already from not going to Starbucks. Cleanup is virtuality non existent because the used pods go into the canister and you never have to touch them. Very happy with this product!

Good, but you’re stuck with Nespresso pods
Pros:-The machine is well-built, attractive, fairly quiet, and very simple to use.-The espresso is consistently great.Neutrals:-The espresso is barely the right temperature out of the machine. You’ll have to drink it fast. If you enjoy sipping your espresso, it will be too cold to drink in 5 minutes.-There’s too much foam. (Yes, “foam.” That isn’t truly crema.) It’s not a deal-breaker, but having 50% less foam would be ideal.Cons: (These are not really criticisms of the machine but of Nespresso.)-Keurig has wisely allowed third-party companies to make pods. Nespresso has jealously guarded their patent, so you get only what Nespresso wants you to get. (The Starbucks pods are actually produced by Nespresso, who just slap a Starbucks label on them.)-My biggest frustration is the lack of choice of pods for my drink of choice: double espresso. They have dozens and dozens of choices for large-size coffees (too much) and for single espressos (way too little!), but only 4 double espresso choices, and 2 of those are too light (“espresso for those who don’t like the taste of espresso”).Overall, I regret buying it. But if iced coffee is what you like, I think you’ll really like it.

Nespresso coffee pods are more expensive than other name brands but the coffee is so delicious and smooth! The machine is compact, simple to use and looks great and I love that is has a used pod holder and movable water tank and that Nespresso offers recycling bags (free of charge). My only regret is that I didn’t purchase the Aeroccino!
