Product Overview
The Panasonic NN-SN97JS is a powerful 1250-Watt microwave oven designed to elevate your kitchen experience with precision cooking, fast defrosting, and effortless reheating. With a spacious 2.2-cubic-foot interior and a sleek stainless steel finish, this model offers both style and substance for modern homes. Whether installed as a built-in appliance or used as a countertop unit, it delivers professional-grade performance tailored for everyday use—from steaming vegetables to warming up large family meals.
Powered by Panasonic’s proprietary Cyclonic Wave technology, the NN-SN97JS ensures ultra-efficient heat distribution at every temperature level. This advanced system circulates microwaves in three-dimensional waves, penetrating dense foods more effectively and eliminating cold spots that can lead to uneven cooking. Combined with Inverter Technology, which provides consistent power output instead of the traditional pulse-on/pulse-off method, this microwave achieves superior results across a wide range of dishes—delicate sauces stay smooth, meats cook evenly from edge to center, and grains retain their texture.
One of the standout features is the Genius Sensor, which automatically monitors steam levels during cooking to calculate optimal remaining time and power settings. This eliminates guesswork and helps preserve the flavor, nutrients, and moisture in your food. Whether you’re reheating soup, cooking rice, or preparing a multi-ingredient dish, the sensor adjusts conditions in real time for reliable outcomes.
With 20 built-in auto cook programs, including options for pizza, popcorn, pasta, oatmeal, and more, meal prep becomes faster and more convenient. The included 16.5-inch turntable comfortably accommodates large casserole dishes, roasting pans, and family-sized containers—making it ideal for entertaining or batch cooking. The durable stainless steel exterior resists smudges and complements contemporary kitchen designs, while also being suitable for built-in installations when integrated into cabinetry.

Key Features
- Cyclonic Wave Technology: Delivers ultra-efficient 3D heat circulation at every temperature level, ensuring thorough cooking—even in denser foods—by preventing cold spots and promoting uniform heating throughout.
- Inverter Technology: Provides a continuous stream of cooking power rather than pulsing on/off cycles, resulting in more evenly cooked food from edge to center without overcooking or underheating sensitive dishes.
- Genius Sensor Cooking: Automatically detects steam during cooking to adjust power levels and timing accordingly, reducing manual input and helping preserve flavor, texture, and nutritional value.
- Advanced Turbo Defrost: Uses intelligent power modulation to accelerate defrosting times safely and efficiently, minimizing partial cooking compared to standard defrost modes.
- 20 Auto Cook Options: Includes preset programs for common foods like pizza, popcorn, pasta, soup, oatmeal, and more, enabling quick one-touch preparation with optimized settings for each dish type.
- Large 16.5-Inch Turntable: Accommodates large casserole dishes and family-sized containers, supporting versatile meal prep for everyday use and gatherings.
- Stainless Steel Build: Durable exterior resists fingerprints and complements modern kitchen aesthetics; also suitable for built-in installations with a professional appearance.

Benefits & Use Cases
This microwave excels in everyday kitchen tasks such as defrosting meats, reheating leftovers, cooking rice or pasta, and warming soups and beverages. Its generous 2.2-cubic-foot capacity and large turntable comfortably fit standard casseroles, baking dishes, and even multiple smaller containers at once—ideal for families or those who prepare large meals regularly.
The combination of Inverter Technology and Genius Sensor ensures that delicate foods like custards, steamed vegetables, and sauces are prepared gently without scorching or developing uneven textures. For example, melting chocolate or simmering milk requires precise low-power control, which Inverter Technology handles seamlessly. Similarly, the Turbo Defrost feature is especially useful when you need to quickly thaw frozen ingredients for dinner prep without risking partial cooking in already-thawed areas.
With 20 pre-programmed settings, users can achieve restaurant-quality results with minimal effort—whether making perfect popcorn, reheating leftover lasagna, or preparing oatmeal with just the touch of a button. The intuitive interface simplifies operation, making it accessible for all skill levels.
The stainless steel finish not only enhances durability but also blends seamlessly into contemporary kitchen designs. It’s resistant to everyday wear, including smudges and fingerprints, maintaining a clean look with minimal maintenance. Whether placed on a countertop or integrated into cabinetry as a built-in appliance, the NN-SN97JS adds a polished, professional touch to any space.
Important Notes
The Panasonic NN-SN97JS measures 14″ high by 23 7/8″ wide by 19 7/16″ deep, so ensure adequate space is available for placement—whether freestanding or integrated into cabinetry. While the turntable is sized to accommodate large dishes, very tall or irregularly shaped items may not fit comfortably within the cavity. Always follow manufacturer instructions for proper cleaning and maintenance to preserve performance and appearance. The product includes the microwave unit only; no additional accessories or installation hardware are specified in the provided details.

When it comes to everything you expect in a microwave—reliable defrosting, consistent cooking, and efficient reheating—the Panasonic NN-SN97JS stands out through its innovative use of Cyclonic Wave and Inverter Technologies. GREAT RESULTS!
It is so easy to use. It cleans easily. It’s very stylish – black & stainless steel. It has a 16″ rotating glass plate. You can heat two things at once. We are very pleased with it. What a difference a new microwave oven makes!

Easily the best microwave oven I’ve ever used or owned.
I was skeptical about their claims on how much better this oven worked with its cyclonic technology, yet I have to admit that it really does work well. Say goodbye to cold centers and crispy edges and say hello to evenly heated food every single time! No, really!
I was honestly amazed, I didn’t realize just how much of a difference thie cyclonic technology in this thing would make in terms of using a microwave, yet it’s really noticeable. Cook times are actually down, heat is uniform, food isn’t over or under done if you follow cooking instructions, it’s a real game changer! That alone would have been enough to call this thing the best microwave oven I’ve ever used or owned, yet there’s more that makes it even better!
It’s genius sensor is so handy, you need to make sure the steam can get out, but gosh does it work well! I’ve never had it undercook anything I’ve used it for and only in the making of oatmeal did it have any issues, it made the oatmeal rise, but I have a feeling that’s because I used milk instead of water and milk has a different steaming point.
Its sensor cook and sensor reheat functions work like a champ, yet its other features, such as preset features for frozen entrees or thawing work remarkably well, too. I don’t know if it uses the genius sensor to help in the preset cooking or not, but it does somehow seem to be able to tell just the right amount of cooking time for most things even if there ends up being a little more in terms of weight than the instruction manual says to have.
I am truly blown away by this, its surfaces are easy to clean, it’s easy to use, it works remarkably well, I really don’t think I could have asked for a better microwave oven!

Handsome machine, but so dark inside
First off, this is a very handsome machine. I really like the sleek stainless-steel front and “real” buttons. It is large capacity and function wise, works GREAT. Though I was hesitant about the dial control feature, I have found this works well, easy to use. The interior is a medium gray which is pleasing, BUT the biggest con of this microwave the wimpy interior light (so dark inside), hence the one star off. (Panasonic, please add brighter interior lighting to your design!!!!)

DO NOT BUY AS A BUILT-IN MICROWAVE – correct 932SS kit doesn’t fit properly, and Panasonic has customer support from hell
A little part of me feels like this review is a tad unfair. First up – this is a perfectly nice, decently performing microwave. Nice functions, works great, reasonably easy on the eye for a big steel box. If I were rating this product on its “microwave-yness” then I’d give it 4 or 5 stars. But most of me thinks that this oven, and Panasonic, throroughly deserve a 1 star for two reasons.
First, there are the key words “built-in” in the description and spec, which is exactly why I bought it, as I need a replacement built-in microwave. This oven pairs with the NN-TK932SS trim kit, which I confirmed with Panasonic customer support is the right one. And when I look at the Panasonic website (see picture) there’s a nice tight finish. But when fitted, there is actually a 1/2″ gap on all four sides of the microwave through which you can see the duct work and cabinet cavity. Seriously – the trim hole is exactly 3/4″ bigger than the oven. Ugly. I thought I’d bought the wrong kit, but no.
Second, the customer support from Panasonic is ATTROCIOUS. Here’s a fun transcript from my chat with them:
Levon S (1/3/2018, 7:26:55 AM): Welcome to Panasonic Microwave Support Live Chat Group!
How may I assist you?
Me (1/3/2018, 7:27:19 AM): Can you confirm the correct 30″ trim kit for an NN-SD975S microwave?
Me (1/3/2018, 7:27:49 AM): I bought the NN-TK932SS but it has a 1/2″ gap all around the microwave, looks ugly.
Levon S (1/3/2018, 7:29:17 AM): NN-TK932S
Me (1/3/2018, 7:30:22 AM): Really? And its supposed to have a big gap around the microwave? It looks terrible.
Me (1/3/2018, 7:31:07 AM): Look at the picture at http://www.abt.com/product/64796/Panasonic-30-Stainless-Microwave-Trim-Kit-NNTK932SS.html
Me (1/3/2018, 7:31:25 AM): With the 975S microwave it doesn’t look like that at all.
Levon S (1/3/2018, 7:32:15 AM): Then you need to contact a installer for unit was installed wrong
Me (1/3/2018, 7:33:43 AM): Are you serious?
Levon S (1/3/2018, 7:33:43 AM): yes
Me (1/3/2018, 7:34:26 AM): There is no installing it wrong. Its a trim… it fits over the microwave. The hole in the trim is bigger than the microwave. “Fitting” it won’t make the hole bigger or smaller.
Me (1/3/2018, 7:34:51 AM): I’m not talking about the hole in the cabinet. I’m talking about the hole in the trim which fits over the oven.
Levon S (1/3/2018, 7:35:30 AM): That is the correct trim kit as I have stated to you and you have enter it wrong because there is no spacing on it
Me (1/3/2018, 7:37:17 AM): Is there a phone number I can call to talk to someone else. Either you don’t understand me, or the product I was sent is defective. I can fit my entire finger between the trim and the microwave.
Me (1/3/2018, 7:37:26 AM): All the way around.
Levon S (1/3/2018, 7:37:34 AM): You can call 1-800-211-7262 but you will be charged $9.95 to speak with agent over the phone.
Me (1/3/2018, 7:38:02 AM): You guys suck. I’m returning the microwave unless you give me a number to speak to someone for free.
Me (1/3/2018, 7:38:27 AM): You call this customer service?
Levon S (1/3/2018, 7:39:36 AM): Sorry there is no free number
I discovered that there IS a free phone service during the warranty period, but what the number is escapes me. The phone line that told me this hangs up before giving you the option of talking to someone about warranty.
A second chat had similar, almost comedic results. The second guy had ME google product dimensions for his own products, in order to confirm that this isn’t a fitting issue, and yes indeed the trim is 3/4″ bigger that then microwave.
