Benefits & Use Cases

This Yale Code Keypad Deadbolt is particularly beneficial for homeowners who value ease of use and enhanced security but prefer not to invest in complex smart home systems. It’s well-suited for secondary entrances such as back doors, side gates, or interior entry points where quick, keyless access is appreciated. The absence of Wi-Fi or connectivity means it avoids potential hacking risks while still offering modern convenience through programmable codes. Its affordability makes it accessible for budget-conscious consumers looking to upgrade their locking mechanisms without compromising on quality or safety.

Installation & Compatibility

Designed with user-friendly installation in mind, the Yale Code Keypad Deadbolt can typically be installed by homeowners using basic tools. The lock supports standard door thicknesses found in most residential properties and is compatible with either a 2-3/8″ or 2-3/4″ backset, making it suitable for a wide range of existing door preparations. No professional locksmith or advanced technical knowledge is required, though following the included instructions ensures proper alignment and optimal performance. Users should verify their door’s specifications before purchase to confirm fitment.

Security & Convenience

Despite being a non-connected model, the Yale Code offers meaningful security improvements over traditional deadbolts. The solid brass construction and heavy-duty latch mechanism resist prying and drilling attempts, providing peace of mind for everyday use. The ability to set and change user codes adds flexibility—ideal for managing access for guests, service providers, or family members. Since there are no external handles or levers, the design also minimizes accidental locking or bumping, reducing the risk of unauthorized entry due to human error.

Battery Life & Maintenance

Powered by four AA batteries, the Yale Code operates reliably for extended periods under normal usage. While exact battery life varies based on frequency of use, users can expect several months of operation before needing replacement. A low-battery warning indicator alerts you when power is running low, preventing unexpected lockouts. Batteries are not included with the product, so be prepared to purchase them separately. Regular maintenance includes cleaning the keypad surface and ensuring the bolt moves smoothly through its housing.

Limitations & Considerations

  • Batteries are required for operation and are not included with the product.
  • Installation requires basic tools and should follow manufacturer guidelines for proper setup and alignment.
  • Since this is a non-connected model, it does not support remote access, alerts, or integration with other smart devices.
  • The package includes only the lock mechanism; mounting hardware may be limited depending on door preparation needs.

Who Should Choose the Yale Code?

The Yale Code Keypad Deadbolt is best suited for individuals seeking a simple, effective way to upgrade from traditional keyed locks. It appeals to renters, first-time homeowners, or anyone prioritizing affordability and ease of use over advanced smart features. Because it doesn’t rely on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or cellular connections, it’s less vulnerable to cyber threats while still offering the convenience of code-based entry. Whether used on a backyard entrance, basement door, or utility room, it delivers dependable performance without unnecessary complexity.

    Better Than A Key
I like the fact that I don’t have to carry a key anymore and locking the door is pretty easy. Convenient when you have visitors staying for the holidays and providing them with their own code. I can delete the code once they leave.

    Reliable and High-Quality Keypad Deadbolt
This keypad deadbolt delivers on durability and usability, making it a top choice for those seeking a simple, smart lock solution. The absence of connectivity means no apps or integrations, which can be a downside for those wanting remote control but a plus for simplicity and privacy. The keypad is intuitive and responsive, and the overall build quality is excellent. However, for the price, the lack of connected features makes it feel slightly overpriced compared to other smart locks. Ideal for those prioritizing security and ease of use over advanced tech features.

    Nice for upgrade
An upgrade for my backyard to garage entrance door. My wife requests for the kid can come in without key. Easy to setup from hardware to code setup. So far work perfect. Only one concern is the rubber entry key button. Worry that it may be broken few years later especially with sunlight shinning it everyday

    Excellent
Oh, Yale, you’ve outdone yourself this time! Let me tell you, this Code Keypad Deadbolt has single-handedly upgraded my front door game. Installation? A breeze. Even for someone like me who once put a shelf up backward, this was child’s play. The instructions were clear, the tools needed minimal, and before I knew it, I was punching in codes like a spy in a heist movie. The black finish is sleek, modern, and just a touch intimidating—in the best way possible. It says, “I’m stylish, but I mean business.” It’s like my door got a suit upgrade. My neighbor even stopped to ask what brand it was. That never happens. The keypad itself? Chef’s kiss. The numbers light up perfectly, even in the pitch dark, so I’m not fumbling for my keys when I come home late. It’s responsive, but not overly sensitive—no accidental “access denied” drama here. And the ability to assign different codes to family and friends? Genius. No more hiding a key under the flowerpot (which, let’s be honest, is the first place any burglar would check).Security-wise, I sleep easy knowing this lock is as solid as they come. Yale didn’t just slap their name on this—it feels like they put their centuries of expertise into every detail. The battery life has been excellent so far, and the low-battery warning is a thoughtful touch. No surprises here, just reliability.Overall, this deadbolt is a flawless mix of aesthetics, functionality, and peace of mind. Yale, you’ve turned my front door into Fort Knox with a touch of James Bond flair.

Difficult to install if you don’t already have a deadbolt
After much difficulty installing the unit, it doesn’t work. The instructions say to push the Yale button. It will then turn the status indicator to yellow. Which it does. Then it says to push the mode button (hidden in the battery compartment) and the status indicator will change to green. It doesn’t. I checked the cable, and it is plugged in correctly. Now I have a door with holes in it and nothing but a manual deadbolt.

    Good brand
This brand is a good one. They are reliable locks and have a nice clean finished look. Its no louder or qieter than any other electronic locks Ive installed nor is it more complicated. I used this to secure a room in my house for things I dont want my kids having access to. They keyless is fast amd accurate. I like the touch buttons so I can tell where my fingers are even in low light situations or without looking. The button press is nice and tactile also. Its a good looking lock and feels good too.
