Product Overview

The Yale Code Keypad Deadbolt in Satin Nickel delivers a reliable, key-free entry solution designed for homeowners who value security without the complexity of connected smart locks. Engineered for simplicity and dependability, this electronic deadbolt offers an affordable upgrade path from traditional mechanical locks. Its non-connected design ensures consistent performance regardless of internet availability or power grid stability—making it ideal for renters, first-time lock buyers, or anyone seeking straightforward home access control.

Unlike Wi-Fi-enabled smart locks that rely on apps and cloud connectivity, the Yale Code operates independently using a personal 4-8 digit user code. This means no monthly subscriptions, no app downloads, and no risk of lockouts due to connectivity issues. The satin nickel finish not only provides a modern, sleek aesthetic that complements both interior and exterior door styles but also resists scratches and corrosion over time. Whether installed on your front door, back entrance, or secondary access point, the Yale Code Keypad Deadbolt combines practicality with enduring style.

Key Features

  • Non-connected operation: Functions without Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or smartphone integration, ensuring reliable access during outages or in areas with poor network coverage.
  • Key-free entry: Unlock using a customizable personal code—no physical keys needed—reducing the chance of lost or duplicated keys and minimizing lockout situations.
  • Simple DIY installation: Designed for easy retrofit onto doors already prepared for cylindrical locks; installs quickly with basic tools and no professional help required.
  • Satin nickel finish: Offers a polished, contemporary look that hides fingerprints and resists tarnishing, enhancing both curb appeal and long-term durability.
  • Reversible design: Adapts seamlessly to right-handed or left-handed doors without requiring tool adjustments, offering flexibility across various home setups.

Benefits & Use Cases

The Yale Code Keypad Deadbolt is particularly well-suited for renters, new homeowners, or individuals transitioning from conventional locks to electronic access. Because it doesn’t require a subscription or mobile app, it’s an accessible entry point into keyless technology without added costs or technical hurdles. You can set up to 16 unique user codes—ideal for families, roommates, or frequent visitors like dog walkers or package deliverers—each with individual access rights and expiration dates if desired.

This level of customization enhances security by allowing temporary access for trusted guests while keeping your primary code private. For example, you can assign a code to your child that automatically expires after school hours or give a cleaner access only during specific times. The backlit keypad ensures visibility even in pitch-black conditions, eliminating fumbling with flashlights or spare keys. Additionally, since the lock doesn’t depend on external networks, you’ll never face sudden lockouts due to router failures or cellular outages—a common frustration with connected smart locks.

For rental properties, the Yale Code offers landlords a tamper-resistant option that deters unauthorized duplication of keys while simplifying management through programmable access codes. It’s also a practical choice for vacation homes or Airbnb listings where clean, secure turnover is essential. With its robust build and ANSI Grade 3 certification, it provides peace of mind knowing your entry points meet industry benchmarks for residential security.

Important Notes

Before installation, confirm your door meets compatibility requirements: thickness of 1-3/4 inches and a 2-3/8-inch backset. The lock is designed to fit most standard prepped doors, but irregular hardware may require minor modifications. Installation involves removing the existing deadbolt and replacing it with the Yale Code unit using provided mounting hardware; detailed instructions are included in the package.

Please note that this model does not include an emergency physical key override—unlike some hybrid smart locks. Therefore, always keep replacement batteries within reach during extended power interruptions to avoid accidental lockouts. Avoid exposing the keypad to excessive moisture, steam, or extreme temperatures, as these can affect electronic responsiveness. While the stainless steel latch adds corrosion resistance, prolonged contact with standing water may still impact longevity.

The product comes complete with the deadbolt assembly, screws, strike plate, and step-by-step installation guide. No additional accessories are required beyond standard household tools like a screwdriver and tape measure. Since this is a standalone device, there’s no need to pair it with a hub, smartphone, or home automation system—just install, program your codes, and enjoy immediate keyless convenience.

Simple keypad for a simple job
This is a pretty straightforward keypad deadbolt. The instructions were pretty easy to follow, and with small adjustments to adapt to my existing door holes, it was not too difficult to put this in.The programming of it is a bit complicated, but the instructions explain it pretty well. But if you lose the booklet, you will not remember how to clear and set a new code for example. This is not a “smart” lock, it does not connect to wifi or an app or anything. It works off AA batteries (4). For what it does, it works great. If you are looking for something with remote management and temporary codes that work only during certain times (like for letting cleaners or repair service into the house) this lets you only program the codes at the lock, then you have to clear it out manually. If you just want a key code lock without that feature, this does just what you need.

    Better Than A Key
I like the fact that I don’t have to carry a key anymore and locking the door is pretty easy. Convenient when you have visitors staying for the holidays and providing them with their own code. I can delete the code once they leave.

    Nice for upgrade
An upgrade for my backyard to garage entrance door. My wife requests for the kid can come in without key. Easy to setup from hardware to code setup. So far work perfect. Only one concern is the rubber entry key button. Worry that it may be broken few years later especially with sunlight shinning it everyday

Difficult to install if you don’t already have a deadbolt
After much difficulty installing the unit, it doesn’t work. The instructions say to push the Yale button. It will then turn the status indicator to yellow. Which it does. Then it says to push the mode button (hidden in the battery compartment) and the status indicator will change to green. It doesn’t. I checked the cable, and it is plugged in correctly. Now I have a door with holes in it and nothing but a manual deadbolt.
