Benefits & Use Cases

The Panasonic NN-SV79MS is designed for modern households that value efficiency, convenience, and consistent results. Its Genius Sensor eliminates guesswork by monitoring internal food conditions and dynamically adjusting cooking parameters—making it especially useful for reheating liquids like soups or beverages where uneven heating can ruin the experience. The Alexa integration transforms routine kitchen tasks into effortless voice-activated actions; simply say “Alexa, heat my dinner” or “Alexa, defrost chicken for 5 minutes” to get started. This feature is particularly beneficial for seniors, people with disabilities, or anyone who prefers hands-free operation while cooking, cleaning, or managing children. The Turbo Defrost function ensures safe, even thawing without hot spots, while the popcorn preset offers three distinct cooking levels tailored to different batch sizes—from a single serving to multiple bowls. Families will appreciate the roomy 1.4 cu.ft cavity, which fits full plates and larger casserole dishes, yet the compact footprint keeps it from overwhelming smaller countertops. Whether used daily for weekday meals or during holiday gatherings, the NN-SV79MS streamlines cooking with minimal effort and maximum reliability.

Important Notes

This microwave requires only basic setup upon unboxing and is ready for immediate use. While the stainless-steel exterior provides a polished look and long-lasting durability, it’s recommended to clean with non-abrasive cloths to maintain its finish. Some customers have reported varied experiences regarding noise levels, button responsiveness, ease of learning the interface, and perceived long-term durability—so personal preferences may influence satisfaction. No additional accessories are included beyond the unit itself unless specified at purchase. For optimal performance and safety, always consult the provided user manual for proper care instructions, cleaning tips, and operational guidelines.

Alexa function works great for blind
The microwave works great. it connected to Alexa upon set up. She worked immediately. Upon giving Alexa a cooking command. I was skeptical it would work well but it surprised me. I need the ability of Alexa to control the microwave. that is why I got it. It is an expensive microwave. I got a great price on Prime day. It is worth the money. for anyone blind or has low vision. since most microwaves are flat panels. that have to be marked. this microwave has no number pad like a traditional one. it has 6 push buttons and a turn dial. it is a really nice microwave. it is a taller microwave. then my last Panasonic. My last Panasonic was accessible too. Accessibility is an important factor. Manufactures should keep in mind. It is a wonderful microwave. Just got it. Hopefully it will last long time. My last Panasonic lasted 9 years.

    Quality microwave
9.17.24 Note: microwave failed three weeks ago and is sitting at the Panasonic approved repair facility where it languishes unrepaired. Panasonic is supposed to get in contact with the repair facility as they replaced what was supposed to be the faulty part but didn’t fix the machine. To date, Panasonic has not returned their calls. For that reason I can no longer recommend this microwave. There may be some new product shock when setting up this microwave. The manual is fairly epic but thankfully is laid out well and makes sense. If you aren’t planning to use an Amazon smart speaker nor your phone then some features may be a button pushing mess. That is because there are a ton of features and the buttons/dial are fairly sparse. I like that, most of the buttons on most microwaves are of no use to me and on this microwave are available but require extra button combinations and pushes.I use the Alexa phone app and have been exceptionally pleased with how the app works and with how easily the microwave responds. If I’m reheating something I use it like a traditional microwave. It is nice to know however that more complex things can be done with it.Bottom line, if you dislike using voice activated control this microwave is probably not for you. For traditional use the interface is simple but effective. For traditional tasks this microwave will get the job done while offering many additional types of usage should you desire it.

Good power and reasonably easy operation.
A bit flimsy control knob and not as intuitive as other Panasonic ovens. Once you get the hang of the way to operate it, you’ll be fine. For example, pushing the “microwave” button first before you set the time is a bit nuts. It is a microwave oven, right ?!!!! Why can’t I just dial the time and start?I thought things get more intuitive over time and not less. This is a new model with a clumsy operation.

I hate this microwave. Don’t buy it.
First off, it has a dark inside. The inside light stopped working within one year. it pulls enough power that it trips the circuit breaker if there is anything else running at the same time. The Alexa feature is just silly and never worked. Worst of all, there is nothing Genius about it and sensor cooking overcooks everything. And tonight, it died, without warning. No error code, no power to the display. It’s less than 2 years old. I got a build in GE Microwave that’s over 20 years old that still worked better than this one. What a waste of money

Very Quiet But Can’t Use As A Clock
A good microwave but does not have a clock that is on always display. I wish this was an option instead of a factory setting that can’t be changed. Very strange.Alexa integration is excellent.

Unplug It Before Setting up New Smart Devices!
I love this smart microwave oven & I had no problems with what others consider drawbacks—like having to press Start after the 30-seconds button is pushed—because my last microwave was also a Panasonic, so I’m accustomed to how the Panasonic folks think. But because I’m chronically ill enough to have been disabled, energy-wise, 35 years ago, & brain fog often makes life difficult, I needed an Amazon associate to help me set it up. You may have no problem at all, though.Because of my erratic energy problem, I can no longer get an accurate Rx for eyeglasses, so reading & understanding instructions in print too small for many elderly folks—80-yrs old is now closer than 70 for me—isn’t an option which reduces me to trial & error. So, it took me a while to realize that one must press Microwave before using the dial for minutes & seconds at High power in anything but 30-second intervals.I can’t eat like most people do, so for me the Popcorn button & many of the settings at the Start dial are useless. So, I use Alexa primarily & often to cook fresh & frozen vegetables for which I learned to say “microwave” instead of “cook” to get the job done. Otherwise, Alexa may tell me HOW to cook them instead of actually cooking them. When cooking times are given, on a “steamables” bag for instance, I automatically give Alexa another 90 seconds of cooking time. And then afterwards I have her countdown 5 minutes to allow the hot veggies to continue cooking w/their own heat since “al dente” veggies are more difficult to digest. Both this smart microwave & my old Panasonic overheat foods to be reheated, even if I turn the dial to minus for a shorter microwaving time. So, unless you really want your food piping hot, remove it instead of stirring if that’s what’s called for at the beep before it’s finished. If you want Alexa to add time when the microwave signals that it’s done, tell her before the beeping is over. Otherwise, she may tell you that the microwave isn’t running. My Panasonic standard microwave & my Ninja Foodi played very well together even though it was also 1200W. Unfortunately, this one trips the breaker it’s on if I use it while my Foodi is also in use.But the most aggravating for me is that it interferes with setting up new smart devices & conversing with Alexa if it’s running. It took me 2 years to realize that this microwave, plugged into the same outlet, was preventing new devices from finding my network. Prior to that I easily set up everything I needed to. Amazon’s own plugs especially used to set up in a flash. So, tonight when I had difficulty getting an Amazon smart plug set up, I recalled I needed to unplug this microwave 1st because that’s what worked setting up another Amazon smart plug a few months ago after the tiny print somewhere mentioned “microwave oven”. Moving the microwave elsewhere, as suggested, isn’t an option for me. So, my solution of temporarily unplugging it, not to mention perseverance, is what works for me.That has been the case even with those devices that I installed years ago, not just new ones. So, try that if you’re having difficulty. Other than that, that’s the only problem I’ve had & I would buy this microwave oven again should the need arise.
